Hi - New and slightly confused, but also excited!

Hi guys, thank you for taking the time to read my thread. I just discovered this forum, and have always been a huge smash brothers fan so obviously I am pumped to find an online community dedicated to it.

However, I am slightly confused by the "rankings' section and how this all works.. I saw a guide on the forum somewhere for installing a SSB Melee emulator with online play, so I am wondering if these rankings are from online play or something else?

I saw that there are tournaments listed for each different SSB title, as well as Project M which seems cool. Are there different online emulators for each SSB title and are there tournaments online for each? What I mean by "online emulators" is, are there emulators that support online play? Also, are there prizes for any of these tournaments? I see on the ranking section that some players have a $X next to their name.

Sorry for all of the newb questions, and thank you again for reading my post!! If there is a link or somewhere that I can find this information, please let me know and I will check it out.

- For playing Melee, Brawl, or Project M online, most people use the Dolphin emulator. For Smash 64, Project 64 is used. See here for guides on setting up the software for netplay. Note that you'll need to find your own ROMs; you can't ask for them here.

Great thank you for helping me out!! I managed to get the Melee up and running and played a few matches, and it was awesome!! Totally stoked for this!! Do most people on here use the smashladder.com site to find matches?
