I recall there being an GameXplain video that involved chuggaconroy, who being a big fan of Xenoblade Chronicles went into more detail with the examination of the E3 trailer. For example he mentions that the mysterious blue object next to the mutated stag monster is similar to the items in the overworld in Xenoblade Chronicles, which were depicted as blue wisps for normal items.
That is the one that I was referring too!
Can you find it? I'd like to see more of the game.

I have a theory in regards to Xenoblade and X.

Basically, with the introduction of using giant robots, I find it ironic that the previous game took place on and inside two gigantic robot worlds, and now the humans are using them in battle and transportation.

I believe, that "X" is a sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles, which takes place in a future where the Bionis and Mechonis are essentially remembered through the usage of said robots. They are used in battle to resemble the strength of the storied titans.

That's where references to a hero and his blade would come into play. The Monado is a legendary blade according to Xenoblade's lore, so if "X" is a sequel in the same world, then it doesn't seem all that ridiculous for it to make an appearance or get referenced.

Some of the areas take on a similar appearance to areas from Xenoblade chronicles, and my theory branches here as well. There is an area with a darker image to it, with flying creatures and such. I believe that this would be the part of the world in which the Mechonis would have existed.

It could be assumed that after the events of Xenoblade, the world of those people would have flourished with commerce, hence why there are great cities instead of what were once colonies.

They're minor details, but I think they could work.

PLEASE TELL ME THIS TWEET IS REAL!

Hype, hype, hype, hype, hype, HYPE!

BEHOLD THE POWER OF THE MONADO, SMASHERS!
Hey, that was MY news.

I hope your check is ready.
Of course jk. :p

Anyway,
Regarding the recent news about Monolith recruiting new members to their teams, and as Brawler610 said, I think X will most probably be released some times after SSB4.

And I was wondering : In order to promote their newest project, Monolith (and by extension Tetsuya Takahashi) could have gived to Sakurai their allowance to use the main hero of X as a new fighter alongside Shulk, as the same way for Roy during the Melee era.

I admit this case is very unlikely, but X's development have been probably started at the same time as SSB4's roster elaboration, so there are still chances it will happen.
I'm kind of disappointed to see there were not that much people who have taken in consideration this suggestion. :urg:

Oh well, I would still LOVE to see this eventuality to happen.

Not you ?

I'm not sure how I feel about the X protagonist considering we know little to nothing about him. I'm more focused on hoping Shulk will get into the game. The protagonist could be a nice bonus, but if Shulk is in at that point, wouldn't it make more sense for that roster slot to go to someone more deserving?

I remember reading some speculation around somewhere where X may also be the prequel to Xenoblade Chronicles with the dude appearing at the end of the first trailer actually being
Xanxus

This is far-fetched but it makes sense to me.

Well, Shulk does look a lot like Zanza, so I suppose its possible...But how would the dolls (those flyable robot thingys from the X trailer) be there? Unless, of course X takes place before the the Machina came into being. Those dolls looked high tec to me, more so than the Faces in Xenoblade. I guess it isn't too far fetched for the dolls to exist before Xenoblade, especially if X took place before Meyneth and Zanza started their feud. A bunch of people/species probably died in the process. For all we know the Machina could of re-discovered some of this technology thousands of years later. I need to look at the trailer for X again, really.

Ugh. Stupid Zanza for rewriting the universe. It's so confusing!

But yeah, that idea is intriguing.

To truly support Shulk at the maximum, you must play the game, it's worth the $80 man.
I thought you all should know, BluePikmin11 especially, that I just got home from Gamestop- I bought Xenoblade to show my support for Shulk. I'll be starting my quest tomorrow.

The hair and face is rather wonky. Seems like it was ripped straight from Xenoblade Chronicles, which if you've played the game kind of suffers from low quality models due to the hardware limitations.

Basically, Xenoblade Chronicles is an RPG game that gives each playable character, including Shulk, different abilities.

Several of Shulk's abilities come from his sword, the Monado.

This is the Monado. It has several different abilities that change in distinction and power.

Aside from the Monado, Shulk has abilities of his own. These abilities can decrease the stats of the enemies that he is fighting.

For example, one move he has is called Backslash. This move is more effective when he is behind opponents. Smash Bros wise, Shulk could have different moves that can stun or disable an opponent, giving him enough time to sneak behind them and inflict more damage and knockback.

Shulk has moves that can disable his opponents in game if used correctly, so a lot of his moveset could be pulled from source material. Shulk could also be the first Swordsman who needs to play strategically to fully recognize the potential of his moveset. Basically, while slashing the Monado wouldn't be totally bad, setting up a combo or trap for an opponent may work out better based on his abilities.

Need more convincing? I'm sure there is more I or other supporters can share.

I'm not opposed to the idea of Shulk (which is more than I can say for most of the crap on here) and there's really only 3 newcomers I want added, not including Mewtwo. Currently, I see Shulk as that guy with that sword that does stuff, which isn't bad, but it isn't giving me a lot to stand behind.

I really hate Shulk's character.

His game and weapon are badass however.

Therefore, Shulk should be playable.

I really liked Shulks character. His more level headed, thoughtful and caring approach made him a great change to the usual wangsty main characters found in many RPGs.

There was a sort of normalcy to Shulk, he didn't come across like some kind of stereotype. I really appreciated that.

Okay, so I thought i'd make a post because i'm slowly working my way through the game. I love it. I absolutely love it. I've never played a game with a battle system like it and it's a strategist's best friend. I was thinking about a reveal trailer and something like this came to mind:

R.O.B. and Mega man are fighting when we see the Monado and Shulk's feet. The camera jolt's upward to reveal Shulk and his eyes start glowing blue. "They don't look like Mechon, but they are robots," he ponders. The Monado opens, revealing the signature blue beam and Shulk dives forward. The black slash comes in, saying, "Shulk springs into Battle!"

Someone needs to throw some more Shulk into these recent rumors and "leaks" lol
It's not going to happen because Shulk's chances are always understated. The "leaks" are people 5 seconds of fame and they pic reasonable choices to seem believable. Of course, this is believable by the fan's standards. As Rosalina showed us, we're way off base. Again, Shulk's chances are better than people believe because they don't understand how it fits into the greater whole of Nintendo content.

I think Shulk would be a great character. I really liked him in Xenoblade. Maybe they could include his visions in some way even if ist just as an easteregg
like everytime he dodges an attack his eyes will glow. Wouldnt that be cool?

But sadly Shulk is the only Xenoblade-character we can expect to be playable. To have Fiora as a character would be my dream. ^^

A question I've had for a while regards the amount of sword characters. Do you think Sakurai considers the concentration of sword based fighters? We already have Link, Ton Link, and Marth. We will also get Meta Knight and hopefully Ike. Now in terms of newcomers, do you guys honestly think Shulk has to compete against the likes of other potential sword based fighters, aka primarily Isaac and Chrom? Of the three, I personally think Shulk has highest priority, because Xenoblade currently seems to have replaced Golden Sun as Nintendo niche JRPG series, and Chrom already has completion within his own franchise (three blue haired lords?)

No. It doesn't matter because the characters each have different abilities. Link uses tools from the game. Meta-Knight attacks VERY fast and can fly. Ike is very powerful. Marth is fiance. Swords are just a common weapon. Look at the number of videogames with characters that use swords. The same is true for firearms. Look at PSABR and how many characters uses firearms.

Every so often people come into this thread and post the same questions or concerns about Shulk. Maybe we should add something about him not being a stereotypical JRPG protagonist with blonde hair and a sword among other things to the OP.

Maybe add what the Monado can do in Xenoblade Chronicles, and then what that could translate to in Smash?

Yes, I feel as though that the original post needs to be updated. It should contain movesets, arguments (I've heard people say that Shulk is generic and that him starring in one game isn't enough to be playable), and an explanation as to what the Monado Arts can do in game and how it can be used in Smash. Maybe as a bonus, talk about Sakurai's main criteria for Smash and how Shulk fulfills those requirements or mention his Japanese popularity.

and considering how much the game costs for a wii game, I'd say it's pretty popular and even though it's just one game he represents monolithsoft which are still making games for nintendo, ones which are definatley going to help nintendo

For those speculating on the X trailer character being too high tech to be the past (if it is in anyway even connected to Xenoblade).. I'm going to say you're wrong. Anybody thought that maybe the Dolls were the original "Mechonis". It seems quite possible to me that the Colonies could have once been those thriving cities.

Either that or the main character is Juju grown up...jkjkjk

I know X is definitely going to make an appearance at E3, but I could really use some more information before then… Maybe this supposed Nintendo Direct that is rumored to be happening soon. I hope its a sequel, that way all of the characters can at least make cameos. On the other hand, if it is a prequel then subliminal foreshadowing and references would be nice too

Im the only one who thinks that, if X was a sequel to Xenoblade, it would be revealed at the beginning.

Of the game? Or at the announcement?

Either way they have been really tight lipped on the project.

Of the announcement, of course.
Lets assume that X is a sequel, prequel, spin-off or whatever related to Xenoblade. Revealing this seems to me an smart move with many positive things. In other hand the opposite causes a neutral-negative effect.
