Smashboards Presents: A Hasbro Platform Fighter!
Since 1953, with the creation of Mr. Potato Head and the revolutionization of the toy industry, Hasbro has become a leading brand worldwide; In fact, they're the largest toy manufacturer in the world, second-to-none. Given their 70 year history in the industry, Hasbro has racked up a series of break-out successes, not just in toys but in general media as well; From iconic multimedia franchises such as Transformers, My Little Pony and G.I. Joe, to ongoing gaming brands, including Monopoly and Dungeons & Dragons.

Case in Point: Hasbro is chalkful of legacy and IP. Meaning they make a perfect candidate to be brought into a very recent trend: a Crossover Platform-Fighting Game!
And with this, I cordially invite the community of Smashboards to brainstorm this project, from the ground up! Every last detail, from the character roster to a single individualized collectible; It's up to us to figure out what it will be.

GENERAL INFORMATION
This thread is simply a brainstorm and is not indicative of any potential official or fan-made product that could release in the future. Moreover, this is all merely for fun, so any general hostility against the project, other users or their submissions are not allowed (criticism and disappointment is welcome, but please tread lightly with what you intend to say). The general Smashboards Creates Rules & Guidelines still apply.
On that note, keep in mind that this project is submission based; Nomination rounds are held periodically for developers to submit an idea that is then voted on the next day, with no repeat submissions allowed. To Smashboards Creates regulars, this should not be new.

This project is run on a day-by-day basis, with new jobs or discussions held under each day. Day 1 is a separate post and will be linked in the following tab; this will be the format for every Day.

STORY MODE
Nominated by PinkFlare PinkFlare
It was an ordinary day in the universes of Hasbro, with an ordinary game of Dungeons & Dragons going on... yet played by one extraordinary being. Hasbro Boy, the young child of the family that overseers the Hasbro Multiverse, started up a campaign set in the realm of the Planescape campaign setting; Letting his imagination run wild, he decided to incorporate characters and locales from Hasbro's catalogue for the ultimate game of action and adventure; Unfortunately, as a cosmic multiversal overseer, this lead to drastic consequences. The portals linking different worlds together became real, and the worlds of Hasbro began colliding as if they were one and the same; Everything broke loose, and now heroes, villains and neutrals began clashing with one another. Ancient evils from each universe sought to seize this opportunity, all playing second fiddle to an entity not even Hasbro Boy could stop; one whose hunger knows no bounds. Can the Heroes of Hasbro save themselves across one hectic crossover adventure? Only you can determine so.

STAMINA MODE
Nominated by Tankman from Newgrounds Tankman from Newgrounds

TRAILERS
Marketing is important, and for Hasbro Game Fight Night, it's no different! The various trailers created by users as time goes on will be catalogued in this section!
Get Ready for A Game Night Fight!

The reveal trailer for this game would most likely be shown off at a gaming event or in my dreams, some form of an event like EVO but it's focused around platform fighters.

After some sort of world premiere thing occurs, we would be transported to a dark playroom where we get some sort of glimpses of various toys including some Transformers and their box art that the toys come in, some G.I. Joe toys and the boxes they come in, a certain Power Morpher, power coins and certain weapons, some Monopoly board game pieces and Monopoly money, some Dungeons and Dragons books and roleplaying sets, etc.

We then pan over to a toybox about to be opened and then, it cuts to a certain black and white boy with the word "Hasbro" on his shirt pulling out a certain Autobot and a Power Rangers lightning collection figure of a certain green ranger and then he collides the two toys together!

It then cuts to a screen in the Hasbro font saying, with the Hasbro Game Night announcer saying:

Get Ready to Battle across the Hasbro Multiverse!

We first see Optimus Prime and Tommy Oliver battling it out on the Toybox stage. We get cuts of each fighter as the announcer says their names. Then, the Hasbro boy grabs a certain pony as she enters the stage. It is revealed to be none other than Twilight Sparkle who also gets introduced by the announcer.

Then, we move forth to a certain game board where a certain man in a suit is revealed to being none other than Mr. Monopoly. He gets his cut and we get a glimpse of the Monopoly stage.

We then cut to a certain Autobot planet where Optimus Prime falls to getting beaten up by Twilight Sparkle and Tommy Oliver and then we see Bumblebee assist him. He gets his cut with the announcer saying his name and we get a view of his moveset.

Then, we cut to the Statue of Liberty stage where Snake Eyes makes his grand appearance. He gets his cut with the announcer saying his name and we get a quick look at his moveset.

Moving forward, we even get a look at the Command Center stage where Tommy falls to none other than Rita Repulsa who attacks him. She gets her cut with the announcer saying her name and we get a quick look at her moveset.

Then, we go back to the Toybox where the Hasbro boy is making Rita attack everyone until...a certain toy in the form of a potato attacks her. This happens to be Mr. Potato Head joining the fight as well as another certain pony readying for battle who happens to be none other than Rainbow Dash herself. We get their cuts as well as their names announced. We even get a quick look at both of her movesets.

We get a quick look at other stages such as Rainbow Dash, Mr. Potato Head and Mr. Monopoly fighting on the Battleship stage and Optimus Prime and Bumblebee teaming up against Rita Repulsa on the Candyland stage.

Finally, it cuts back to the Toybox where Snake Eyes is taking a stance until another swordsman comes in. This happens to be Drizzt Do'Urden. He gets his cut with his name being announced as well as a quick glimpse at his moveset.

We then cut to other footage showcasing off a preview of super moves from Optimus Prime, Snake Eyes, Twilight Sparkle and Tommy Oliver. Finally, we get CGI footage of the 10 revealed fighters ready to clash against one another as the name gets revealed with the announcer saying the name with the logo of the game being:

Hasbro Game Night Fight!

End of trailer

This trailer reveals:
  • Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Snake Eyes, Tommy Oliver, Rita Repulsa, Mr. Monopoly, Mr. Potato Head and Drizzt Do'Urden as the first 10 fighters.
  • The Toybox, Monopoly Board, Cybertron, Command Center, Statue of Liberty, Candyland and Battleship as stages
  • The Hasbro Boy as the game's mascot
  • A quick glimpse of the movesets
  • A quick glimpse of super moves
Double the Trouble!

We start the trailer off with a black screen with the rating of the game and all. It starts off with Optimus Prime and Bumblebee just enjoying their time on Cybertron.

Optimus Prime: That game night fight tournament sure is interesting, isn't it?

Bumblebee: Yeah, some guy with a top hat, a literal potato head, some ponies and all attacking us? Different than some Decepticons fighting us?

Their banter gets interrupted by hearing about some sort of distress happening in New York City!

Optimus Prime then looks at all his Autobots and says "Autobots, roll out!"

We then cut to footage of all of them going to Earth and fighting off various Decepticons until....

We see a certain silverish-gray Transformer appear out of the mist....

Optimus: Megatron?!?!?

Megatron: So, I wasn't invited to this Game Night Fight campaign until I decided to crash the fun???

Bumblebee: Oh goody....

It then cuts to an "Introducing Megatron" splash screen with the announcer saying Megatron's name and then we cut to gameplay of him. We see him on the Cybertron stage and other stages alongside chilling with Rita Repulsa, etc. We then cut back to the CGI footage where characters such as Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Tommy Oliver, etc. try to take down Megatron until...we see footage of his Supers.

Back to the CGI footage.

All the characters are then blasted to the Statue of Liberty.

Tommy Oliver: He's a pretty strong foe guys...

Rainbow Dash: Even our friendship isn't working.

Snake Eyes then decides to attack Megatron with one big blow with his gun and sword. Megatron faints until....we see another villain appear being a blue suited person with a red cape.

Snake Eyes then looks in dismay.

Cobra Commander: So...this Game Night Fight Campaign needs more villains, huh? Well, I'll give you more trouble!

The trailer then cuts to an "Introducing Cobra Commander" splash screen with the announcer saying Cobra Commander's name and we cut to gameplay footage of him. We see him on the Statue of Liberty stage and some fun footage with him. We then see his Supers and we zoom to Megatron, Rita Repulsa and him all laughing evilly at the heroes.

Optimus Prime: You will never win, Megatron!

Tommy Oliver: Nothing can stop my power, Rita!

Rita Repulsa: Very welllll! Now, I got a powerful robot and a villain with an iron fist! Mwahahahaha!

We then see all the various heroic characters revealed ready to attack the three antagonists. It then zooms out to the Hasbro boy and his family playing a huge game of Dungeons and Dragons but with the Hasbro toys. It then cuts to the Hasbro Game Night Fight logo with Megatron and Cobra Commander added to it and then the copyright screen.

This trailer introduces:
  • Megatron as a fighter, his moveset and supers
  • Cobra Commander as a fighter, his moveset and supers
Also, for each trailer, it would be a part of a Hasbro Game Night Fight campaign being played by Hasbro boy and his family to stick to the theme of this being one giant clash of toys. I feel that two characters revealed in one trailer could make this game stand out amongst other platform fighters. It's not my best script but I tried.
This Game's Stakes Have Been Raised!

We start the trailer off similar to the E3 trailer. However....we zoom into a Dungeons and Dragons game with toys representing the 12 characters revealed thus far. We then cut to the Hasbro Boy and his family playing the campaign with the characters they have been with so far until....his dad says as this text comes on the screen:

Time To Raise the Game's Stakes!

We then cut to gameplay footage of Tommy Oliver fighting Rita on the Angel Grove stage revealing a new stage siletnty. Then, we cut to an Easy-Bake Oven appearing when Tommy gets attacked by Rita. Then, he uses it on Rita causing her to be cooked.

We then cut to another text line that says with the announcer saying:

Items Come Forth!

We then see Snake Eyes use the NERF Launch Gun on Bumblebee and Mr. Potato Head on Mr. Boddy's Estate. It then cuts to more gameplay footage of various fighters revealed. Then, we see a Taboo Squeaker appear on Candy Land where then Twilight Sparkler throws it at Cobra Commander. The trailer then cuts to CGI where we zoom out to the toys of Twilight Sparkle and Cobra Commander clashing. That is until...a. certain gentleman with a red colored suit with a cape and a sword comes....it is revealedto be none other than Lord Licoirce.

Lord Licorice:

So...you two want to see the king? Well, come face through the greatest Candy Lord anyone has ever seen!

We cut to an introducing text of Lord Licorice with the announcer saying his name with him standing by the text. We see him fighting on the Candy Land stage showcasing off his moveset on various fighters as well as his Supers.

Then, we cut back to CGI where Twilight Sparkle gets assisted from Rainbow Dash.

Twilight Sparkle: We will not lose to that evil lord!

Rainbow Dash: Not with the power of....

Suddenly, we zoom back out onto the game where the Hasbro father drops in a....SORRY Pawn that attacks Lord Licorice.

Another text line appears that says:

Assists Lend a Hand!

We then see the SORRY Pawn in action attacking Lord Licorice. We also see Doggie Crueger assisting Tommy Oliver on Battleship attacking Drizzt Do'Urden and Bumblbee. Then, we see Ratchet assisting Optimus Prime on the Cybertron stage when he got attacked by Mr. Potato Head.

Then, it zooms back to CGI. We see the family playing with the toys....it zooms back into the board game of Candy Land where Twilight Sparkle is still fighting. However, we see a hand place down another certain pony being none other than...Apple Jack.

Rainbow Dash: Wow! The power of friendship really works!

Apple Jack: It seems I am here to help my friends!

We cut to an introducing text of Apple Jack with the announcer saying her name. We see her fighting on the Sweet Apple Acres stage with it being revealed as well as her moveset being showcased via fighting various fighters as well as her Supers.

We then get more footage with Mr. Potato Head, Apple Jack, Mr. Monopoly and Mr. Potato Head on the newly revealed Mouse Trap stage. Then, we see Twilight Sparkle fighting Lord Licorice and Drizzt Do'Urden on the newly revealed Littlest Pet Shop stage.

While more gameplay footage goes on...we cut to now Optimus Prime being swarmed by the already revealed fighters.

Another text line appears that says:

More Ways to Have A Game Night Fight!

We see footage of the All Versus One Mode as well as with Bumblebee fighting Apple Jack on The Toybox stage revealing Stamina Mode by her dieing after being attacked with her HP going down.

Finally, we cut to Twilight Sparkle and the other ponies hearing a certain villain appear being...Discord. We then see gameplay footage of Rainbow Dash fighting Discord revealing bosses. We also see The Dungeon Master fighting against Drizzt and Goldar fighting against Tommy. It finally cuts to all 14 revealed fighters thus far clashing with the title of the game being read. We see the title being read.

It cuts to copyrights.

This trailer reveals:
  • Lord Licorice and Apple Jack as fighters, their movesets and Supers
  • Angel Grove, Sweet Apple Acres, Mouse Trap and Littlest Pet Shop as the newest stages
  • Easy-Bake Oven, Taboo Squeaker and the NERF Launch Gun as items and how items work
  • SORRY! Pawn, Doggie Crueger and Ratchet as assists and how assists work
  • All Versus One and Stamina Mode as other modes
  • Discord, Dungeon Master and Goldar as bosses and quick previews of their boss fights
Also, announcer announces each new thing as it is revealed.
Creating Your Own Story with A Game Night Fight!

The trailer starts off with the black screen with the rating and all. Then we cut to the Hasbro family playing their Dungeons and Dragons game and we see toys of the currently revealed 14 fighters on the Dungeons and Dragons table with the whole playset. The Hasbro Boy picks up various toys including Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Lord Licorice, Apple Jack, etc and makes them collide. The CLUE gang just shrugs and Colonel Mustard returns to fighting.

Colonel Mustard: It seems now...I'm here in this Game Night Fight since I invited you all for a friendly sparring!

It then cuts to an introduction screen with Colonel Mustard making a pose with text by it with the announcer saying Colonel Mustard's name and then we cut to gameplay of Colonel Mustard fighting against various fighters across various revealed stages and the Mr. Boddy's Estate stage which is newly revealed here. We also see footage of the new House on the Hill stage based on another board game from Wizards of the Coast, Betrayal at the House on the Hill. Finally, we see the Revolver item in action.

As Colonel Mustard picks up the revolver and uses it on Scarlet (G.I. Joe) on the Clue Mansion stage.

Colonel Mustard: I've seen this gun before in the estate.

We see some more footage of his moveset and his Supers. Then, we cut to CGI with Colonel Mustard celebrating his success.

Colonel Mustard: Well, what do you all think?

Professor Plum: Charming....

We zoom out to see the Hasbro family having fun with the Clue mansion added to their big expansion board of their Dungeons and Dragons campaign in Hasbro: Game Night Fight and we see all the fighters, locations as stages, assists, items, etc. on there as toys.

It finally cuts to the Hasbro Game Night Fight screen with all the 25 revealed fighters and then we see Colonel Mustard being added to the collection of fighters.

Cuts to the copyright screen.

After the trailer:

Hasbro Pulse Male Presenter: Well, it seems that the mystery was solved. Colonel Mustard joins Hasbro: Game Night Fight! as our newest fighter! We hope you all enjoyed this Hasbro Pulse presenter! Until next time! Bye!

This trailer reveals:

  • Colonel Mustard as a fighter, his moveset and Supers
  • Mr. Boddy's Estate and House on the Hill as new stages
  • The Revolver from CLUE is a new item
For the trailer, the part with the CLUE gang will be posted separately as Colonel Mustard's trailer on YouTube. Have a product placement trailer here for you all!
Gathering Magic

The trailer opens up on a game of Magic the Gathering. We see objects being placed down and a location. We cut to the Magic Lands stage, where we see Jace Beleren. Jace stands up and gets into a fighting stance. He is surprised when Drizzt, Green Ranger, Snake Eyes and Twilight Sparkle appear. We briefly cut to the real world where we see cards to those characters being placed down.

"What kind of strange plainswalkers are you?"

"I know not what you speak of" Drizzt replies.

"We do not come from this world." replies Twilight Sparkle

"I have defeated beings from other worlds before. I will protect the multiverse ." Jace says, his fist crackling with blue lightning as he gets ready to battle. We get gameplay footage of Jace, showing off his powers and moveset. We also get a good look at the Magic Lands stage and it's transforming gimmick as we get a quick showcase of each land. We also see the Behemoth Sledge in action as Jace uses it to slam down and send his does flying.

We cut back to CGI where we see Jace fighting the other characters. Twilight Sparkle is attempting to warn him that they are not the enemy. Jace suddenly senses something and pushes Twlight Sparkle out of the way of an oncoming undead beast. We hear a laugh as someone appears. We see a card being placed down on the board. Liliana steps out of the the shadows, her hands bubbling with purple energy.

"Friend of Rita's?" Tommy jokes.

"Liliana. A master necromancer. " Jace replies.

"If you get in the way of my goals. I will put you down." Liliana says.

She gets into battle with the other fighters. We cut to gameplay where we see Liliana in action and her moveset. We then get the reveal of the Theros stage, where we see the two Magic reps duking it out. We also see the RoboRally Widget Factory, where there is a voice over of Liliana remarking "such strange foreign lands." We get to see the Monolith item in action too.

We cut back to CGI where all the characters are dueling, before Drizzt and Jace team up to defeat Liliana. We hear a voice say "Aw. Non canon cards, no fair!" where we see Hasbro Bit and a friend playing the game . We then cut to logo and zoom out, where the announcers recap the news that Magic the Gathering content is coming to Hasbro Game Night Fight.

Trailer reveals
  • Jace and Liliana as fighters and their movesets
  • Magic Lands, Theros and RoboRally Widget Factory as stages and their hazards \ layouts
  • Behemoth Sledge and Monolith as items.
Stretching Fighters and Super Soldiers

The trailer opens up on Cobra Island. We see Snake Eyes and Scarlett battling Cobra Goons. Snake Eyes takes them out with his swords, while Scarlett moes them down with her bow. This is shown as action figures falling over, rather than anything violent to, in keeping our family friendly rating. Cobra Commander appears and cackles as the two Joes are overwhelmed. This is all done in the set style of the old cartoon with laments corny dialog.

Cobra Commander: "At least. The Gi Joes will fall at the Hands of Cobra! "

Suddenly a helicopter appears and someone jumps out of it, striking Cobra Commander in the face. We cut to see Action Man arrive, letting his parachute fall. He strikes a pose.

Action Man: "Action Force will assist G.I. Joe in defeating this villainy. "

Cobra Commander sneers and let's out a cry as he rasies his arms.

Cobra Commander: "No matter. Cobra will devour all of you!"

The battle begins again as the three heroes charge at Cobra Commander. We get the full reveal of action man and his moveset. We also get a look at alternative costumes for the cast, as a reference to being able to change Action Man's outfit. We see costumes including Classic Prime and Bumblebee, Future Twilight, White Ranger, Movie Snake Eyes, Classic Action Man and Hooded Cobra Commander. We get gameplay of Action Man defeating Cobra Commander as we cut back to CGI.

Scarlett: "It's over Cobra Commander. You lose."

Cobra Commander shreeks and steps back. He holds a strange device.

Cobra Commander: "Never! You are not the only ones who can call on allies. "

He presses the button and two portals appear. Out of one steps Megatron, out of the other steps Lord Zedd.

Zedd: "Are these the humans you spoke of? "

Megatron: "No humans are a match for the might of the Deceptions! "

Suddenly an out stretched fist appears and slams into Megatron. The heroes and villains both look back in surprise as Stretch Armstrong stands there.

Stretch: "I'll help stop these villains!"

We get gameplay of Stretch, and we get to see his moveset. We also get the reveal of the Stretch monster assist. We see Stretch, Action Man and other heroes battling the villains and beating them.

We cut back to CGI where see the three villains tied up as they get captured. Action Man and Stretch shake hands as Scarlett and Snakeyes watch on as some cheesy 80s cartoons style music plays.

We cut up to see Hasbro Boy playing with action figures. "The good guys always win!" he proclaims as we cut to logo.

Trailer reveals:
  • Action Man and Stretch Armstrong as fighters and their movesets
  • The reveal of various alternative costumes
  • Stretch Monster as an assist
We see Hasbro Boy sitting around, arguing with the next door neighbor's kid about his toys. The parents are communicating in the foyer out back.

Hasbro Boy: Don't you got any other toys we can play with? I hate Barbie, and I'm not a Hot Wheels fanatic like you are.

We then see the kid he's talking to, and he's Matty Mattel, the old mascot of Mattel, Inc.

Matty: Well, I brought a He-Man toy with me. Would that work?

Hasbro Boy: Yes! Give him to me!

We then fade into a fight between Action Man and Jace Beleren, already in progress. They both have a couple of notable bruises each.

Action Man: Man, you're good.

Jace Beleren: Thanks, but so are you.

Action Man: Flattery will get you nowhere in battle.

Jace: I know.

Suddenly, a bolt of lightning and an earthquake reveals a giant skull-shaped castle from under the ground.

????: Nyeh! Where's that blonde-haired nemesis of mine at now?

Action Man: He's not here, but unfortunately, you'll have to deal with us.

????: Very well, then. I shall claim this battlefield for myself!

SKELETOR Takes Over!

We then see a montage of Skeletor battling other characters, like Twilight Sparkle, Optimus Prime, and Jason Lee Scott, on their respective home turfs, followed by a battle against Cobra Commander on Castle Grayskull.

After that fight, we fade back to Hasbro Boy and Matty Mattel, packing up their toys for the next playdate.

Matty Mattel: Same time next week?

Hasbro Boy: You know it!

The trailer then ends.

DAY 1
Thread Launch!
Aaaand, welcome to Hasbro Fighters! (Name is a W.I.P.) I plan for this to be a big project, as, like I said before, Hasbro is the world's largest toy manufacturing company and the second most successful toy company in the world; I definitely want to expand on as many possible ideas as we can! So, for those joining, welcome! And I thank you immensely for being a part of this journey on Day 1!

JOBS
Job 1: Nominate any Hasbro Character for the roster!
I want to kick this off with a bang, so all cards are on the table here! Any character outside of the starting 3 (Optimus Prime, Twilight Sparkle, and Tommy Oliver) are eligible for nomination; Plenty of ideas to go around here, so please, go all out!

For those unfamiliar with the company, a list of Hasbro franchises can be found here! A history of Hasbro released toys and board games can be found in the preceding two links!
Get to nominating, ya'll!

Job 2: Determine the roster size!
Obviously, we need to limit ourselves in order to meet the realistic expectations of an actual game. The best place to start would be, of course, our playable roster! So, I ask of you, what number do you think our playable roster should stop at? My personal idea: 24, but any number is welcome, even or odd!

Open Discussion: Thoughts on the Thread
Since we just started, I wanted to get opening thoughts out the way first. How do you feel about the idea for this project? Were there any improvements I could make to the initial write-up? What do you look forward to see included in this thread?
Just discuss the thread in general; Anything you want to say as we start, you're welcome to say it now!
-----
DC vs. Marvel: Infinity Crisis is about to vote for its last character, from the Marvel universe! I encourage you all to jump in on the thread as it's final jobs approach! (Vote for Adam Warlock!)

Job 1:
Snake Eyes (GI Joe)
1669563874778.png
Snake Eyes is one of characters from Hasbro's GI Joe toyline series he is a commando from team GI Joe, who fights the evil terrorist organization called COBRA (created by villain of the series Cobra Commander). Snake Eyes is known for his black-coloured ninja costume and he made appearances in many comics, cartoons and movies based on the franchise.

Snake Eyes is one of most popular GI Joe characters and he isn't afraid of crossovers as he appeared in Fortnite during season 5 chapter 2.

As for his moveset, he would use mostly his katana in normal moves and he would use his Uzi (pictured above) as neutral special. He would also use melee moves like punches and kicks is some moves (likely in aerial ones).
His final smash-type move would be GI Joe team, where he summons the members of GI Joe to beat up opponent like MinMin's final smash.

Snake Eyes would be middleweight "rushdown" character with ability to wall jump like real ninjas.

I think GI Joe needs to be represented by fighter in this game, since it's one of very successful Hasbro franchises of all time and the franchise itself coined a term "Action figure", which is popular in the pop culture itself and in toy communities.
Job 2:
I think 30 characters would make sense to be in the game.
Yes, Hasbro & Tomy have many IPs to use for any representation in this game in any form, but some of franchises should be left for non-fighter content like assist characters, stages or even collectibles.

Job 1: Mr. Monopoly (Monopoly)

Mr. Monopoly (also known as Rich Uncle Pennybags) is a staple of Hasbro and one of the most iconic board game characters out there. I'd imagine he'd be a resource character, using money acquired throughout the match to upgrade his attacks. No matter what you do with him, though, he's probably the character I want most for this game.

Mr. Potato Head
We're gonna have a lot of action characters so I think having an oddball character make sense. Mr. Potato Head is an iconic toy. He'd be a short stubby character and could perhaps have some sort of mechanic around swapping out his body parts.

40 characters. Big but still gives us plenty of room to do weirder characters while giving multiple reps to transfomers / mlp / gi Joe / etc.

Super excited! Always wanted a toy platfighter/fighting game so here we are!

Job 1:

Matt Trakker (M.A.S.K.)

MASKmatt3.jpg~original.jpeg

From the hit Hasbro franchise M.A.S.K., he is the protagonist and leader of the Mobile Strike Armored Kommand. The 80s series was launched to help promote the merchandise line of toy vehicles and the liking. Matt can fight with his vehicles as well as his team. M.A.S.K. is a big part of the Hasbro multiverse as it has been mentioned in variouys Transformers TV series as well as Trakker appearing in G.I. Joe as well.

I feel we should have a rep from each of the older Hasbro toy lines as they are a part of Hasbro's history. Plus, there was going to be a Hasbro cinematic universe but that's not going to come to fruition most likely. Overall, a good retro pick to start us off.

Job 2 and Discussion

35 maybe???? I feel that should be enough to represent the company's history if we are going to also represent franchises from Hasbro and Tomy via assists, bosses, etc.

I am really excited for this thread as I always wanted a toy platfighter crossover. Hasbro is the perfect brand to do a fighting game for. Personally, I hope we not only do jobs for the main game but also things like reveal trailers, marketing, that jazz. DLC may be a fun concept if we can have guest characters from franchises that got licensed toys with Hasbro or even characters from Mattel. The possibilities are endless.

While my knowledge in Hasbro is far to be the best, and while I'm very sure that we will have some sort of villain round in the future, I will submit

LORD ZEDD

The most popular Power Ranger villain period, he is basically like the Shao Kahn of the Power Rangers, brutal and merciless (thought at the start he was sadly tonned down A LOT due the parent's protests being very much a joke, thankfully other apparitions of the character bringed back this concept of him), he has a repertory of magic and physical abilities that would make him a very interesing fighter.

About the other jobs, I think more or less 20-24 fighters are very fine, considering that (at least of what I could think) most franchise that aren't Transformers/Power Rangers/My Little Pony only have one or two recognizable characters and so the roster could end being flooded just by those 3.

The Bard (Dungeons and Dragons)

Hey, we could use at least one iconic class from the most popular RPG of all time. I thought the Bard would be a nice one to go with as they would be a bit of an oddball pick, but they also have a notorious reputation both within and outside of the game. They would attack mainly through hitting opponents with various instruments, as well as playing said instruments to set various buffs on themselves and debuffs to surrounding opponents.

Everyone else is trying to introduce a new property with their first character submission, so this probably won’t be as popular. But I want to submit my favorite Transformer so here’s the king himself:
Grimlock
1669571940311.jpeg

I believe my Transformers-obsessed friend puts it best:
“He’s the leader of a group of giant robots (cool) who transform into dinosaurs (very cool) and are also rebellious anti-heroes (super cool). And he’s the T-Rex. He’s objectively the most awesome Transformer.”

Job #01:
Character Name: Murph
Character Origin: "Unleash The Play In You" (2022
)
Character Franchise: NERF

Some have said they're a nightmarish creature, but this non-binary icon (yes, really!) would actually be a really solid fit in my opinion. NERF has consistently been one of Hasbro's biggest IPs out there, but the main issue is that it's sort of lacked a specific "mascot" who could represent the series as a whole. Thankfully, Murph's fairly new to the table - but makes a lot of sense regardless! In terms of moveset, I'd say it's pretty obvious - mostly zoning-focused with a wide arsenal at their disposal. Whether they're up-close and personal with a smaller weapon like the Jolt, or raining hell with a turreted weapon in the form of the Vulcan EBF-25, Murph could actually have a pretty varied moveset all around despite falling firmly into the zoner archetype.

Honourable mentions to Stretch Armstrong and Cluedo's Professor Plum, though. I might submit them later down the line.

Job #02:
Honestly, I'm going to say 25 characters. It leaves space for some IPs to double up where needed, gives some breathing room for single-rep IPs, and also allows for some more obscure picks overall. Thinking about it, there's quite a lot of IPs that would work best as assists or stages: certain ones that spring to mind are Bop It!, Scrabble, and Hungry Hungry Hippos amongst others. (The latter seems like it'd be a really manic one to have running around!)

Discussion Round #01:
Honestly... pretty good start all around! I think it was a solid move to get Optimus and Twilight out of the way quickly, and Tommy feels like a great pick for the Power Rangers series. Some of the submissions here already feel like a lot of fun! I'm sure this is going to be a great thread.

I appreciate the enthusiasm very much, but Max Steel is a Mattel IP and not Hasbro/Tomy, and unfortunately he will not qualify.
I'll definitely ring you in if we ever add Mattel characters, though

Job #1: New Character/Fighter - ROM the Spaceknight

ROM the Spaceknight is the main protagonist/hero of a titular multimedia franchise, which was created by Scott Dankman, Richard C. Levy, and Bryan L. McCoy for Parker Brothers (a company which was known for board games and some of those ports on Atari 2600) in 1979 before Hasbro ultimately bought the brand's rights twelve years (1991) later, starting off as an electronic action figure toyline (like other Hasbro IPs), before becoming the comic book series published by Marvel Comics, which ended in 1986 and ROM himself even had a canonical history in Earth-616, making occasional cameo roles and appearances on their official guidebooks. Recently, since July 2015, IDW Publishing has written a new comic book series of ROM's adventures (latest being ROM: Dire Wraiths in 2020), with the Spaceknight himself playing an important role in the Hasbro Comic Book Universe (encountering the Transformers themselves) and a upcoming live-action film for the cinematic universe, which hasn't gotten news for quite a long time.

Coming from the far-off planet of Galador, Rom K'atsema was originally a human-like member of their peaceful race before volunteering to sacrifice his humanity in order to transform into a leader of the cyborg warrior team called Spaceknights, who is dedicated to defend the planet from an impending invasion by the shapeshifting, war-like Dire Wraiths. After two hundred years in space, ROM arrived on Earth and befriended a local woman, Brandy Clark, who assists him on his mission dealing with the Dire Wraiths, who escaped from their banishment to Limbo by his Neutralizer weapon. During his afore-mentioned career in the original Marvel timeline/incarnation, ROM has teamed up with multiple superheroes such as the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Namor the Sub-Mariner (having helped him to save a dying little girl by turning her into a water-breather with his medics - trust me, that was quite a sad story according to TV Tropes and I cannot leave my favorite Marvel hero unmentioned), etc. against their own threats.

As the cosmic Spaceknight, ROM wears a cybernetic Plandanium armor that allows him to use various powers and abilities like incredible superhuman strength, durability (even against Wolverine's adamantium claws with no real damage to his body) and the ability to fly through the skies/space thanks to rocket pods on his back, though this makes him a heavy-weight fighter. His giant size may not be the case in this project, since the Transformers are potentially getting scaled down as well, unlike The Iron Giant in his appearance as a playable fighter on MultiVersus.

He can also utilize projectiles in the form of his weapon, the Neutralizer, which shoots out energy beams/rays, the Analyzer which he uses to scan normally/negate any projectiles it comes on contact with, store weapons/items with the Subspace (a pocket dimension), self-repair himself and even control temperatures by being able to freeze opponents through his cooling, absorbing energy to drain power sources/countering attacks by turning them into fire before hurling them back and summon a powerful solar blast around himself by releasing out the power of the Sun, that would deal massive damage depending on how long it's charged up.

It was Colonel Mustard in the Conservatory with the Lead Pipe!

From what I can tell, Hasbro owns Clue, so I figure he's eligible for this. Clue has several different characters and no main character (as far as I can tell - for all I know, Clue has some really deep lore to it), so I went with Colonel Mustard, mostly due to the mustache.

His attacks could involve comedically investigating (and attacking people in the process) or sneakily trying to attack people with the various weapons from Clue.

Colonel Mustard is easily the best pick of the Clue characters - in the books, he challenges anyone and everyone to a duel over the slightest disagreements or just randomly. If we have character interactions somewhere down the road, he’ll be priceless.

Day 1, Job 1: Hasbro Character
ACTION MAN
Franchise: Action Man
Who is Action Man?
Action Man is the U.K. equivalent of G.I. Joe, licensed in 1966 by Palitoy. Alongside G.I. Joe, these two are considered the world's first action figures, marking them as huge shifts in the toy industry across the world. Whilst G.I. Joe focused on a military theme that would then be rebranded into A Real American Hero in 1983, Action Man was a jack-of-all trades:
Space Rangers, Sailors, Jungle Adventurers, you name it! The legacy of Action Man was steadily built up over time.

His biggest break yet, however, would be in 1993, as the IP was rebranded into a spy-based thriller - a change highlighted by a brand new TV show, mixing both animated and live-action elements
Just 5 years later, in the 2000s, Action Man would see another revamp into a Xtreme Sports IP - a bizarre departure from the spy thriller, but not unfounded given the action figure's roots.
Both of these were followed by a toyline playing off of the show's premise, and even several different video games, perhaps quite a lot given the IP!

The spy thriller would continue to be a major aspect of Action Man into the modern day; In the 2016, the series was brought back by IDW Publishing and folded into their Shared Hasbro Universe, focused around their Transformers comics. A terrible idea, of course, but Action Man saw a return as a Mission: Impossible type IP, with new comics published within this universe (utulizing the original 60's logo, as well)!

Just to put a cherry on top of all of this; an Action Man figure was sent into space for his 50th anniversary, as part of a kickstarter campaign done to celebrate the figure.

Becoming both a media franchise and a staple of action figures, Action Man is a vital part of Hasbro history that deserves representation on this roster, and I'll be shooting for him right out of the gate!

Possible Moveset
Action Man has a variety of different appearances to pull moves from - whilst the Spy inspiration would be the best way to go, a mix of Xtreme sports, jungle adventuring, space voyaging and a little bit of Baywatch would go a long way to make a wholly unique moveset that you would not see elsewhere; Some more direct Action figure inspired attacks, referencing revolutionary features such as gripping-hands and figure construction, could definitely add a boost of creativity that would otherwise not be present on any other Hasbro character that would likely see nomination.

For those who are interested, a far more comprehensive history of Action Man, straight from the source, can be found here!

Job #1: New Character/Fighter - ROM the Spaceknight
Whilst I am typing this, I want to make a shout-out to your very informative write-up. Genuinely amazed by the amount of passion and effort!
You seem to particularly like cosmic superheroes, atleast from the off-set; might I suggest you vote for Adam Warlock as the final Marvel character in the DC vs. Marvel: Infinity Crisis thread? :3

THE FIRST 24 HOURS!
This thread is officially 24 hours old! Congratulations to... well, me, I suppose!
Whilst I would normally post the new jobs, I am giving an official half-hour notice; in 30 minutes, the submissions will be closed, so any new user reading this who wants to nominate, this is your last call to do so.

DAY 2
First Vote!
Day 1 was an absolutely bombastic opening to this thread! Going into this, I hadn't expected to get more than 10 character nominations, including my own- and truthfully, I was expecting a lot of "Bumblebee, Rainbow Dash and Drizz't!" type submissions, but I have to say I am absolutely blown away by the variety of picks here. None of these characters are a like in anyway, and it definitely makes for a very strong line-up of characters.
Now, with my gushing out of the way, let's get to business.

Vote for Roster Number and First Additions
Yesterday was the launch of the thread - today, we will have out first official vote on content to be included! Starting off, I asked how many characters should the roster have, and we got some good numbers all around. Since Infinity Sorcerer and I's number of 24 was very close to KneeOfJustice99's 25, we both opted to just round our number up to the same. So, for this vote, we have 4 options: 25, 30 (Tankman), 35 (AlteredBeast), and 40 (Darkonedagger). I will be holding this vote via poll, since this is really a case where only one vote should be allowed.
Whilst other threads have done one vote per IP address, I'm going to be a little lenient here and just make it one vote per account. I trust everyone in this thread that they won't try to rig the vote, thought just as a warning, if it does happen, I will rehold the vote and change it to one vote per IP address in the future.

And now, time for the vote you are all eagerly awaiting... which Character should we include in the roster?

I almost had an image ready to go with this but it ended up looking somewhat ugly. If I ever get the hang of fancily comprised images, this thread will see a nice makeover.
Note that self-titled series don't get a [Series name] next to them - I'm not writing the same exact twice in a row.

For this vote, I will be applying a very familiar voting system among Smashboards that will see a lot of frequent use from here on out.

THE PRIMARY VOTING SYSTEM
We will be doing ranked voting- this should be fairly run of the mill for, well, everyone here, really. But, to briefly explain the rules to outsiders: Each user numbers their top three options from the above list, going from their first place option to last place. This is a point based system: The top place gets 3 points, second place gets 2 points, and last place gets 1 point.

So, just to provide a quick example:
1. Optimus Prime (He receives 3 points)
2. Twilight Sparkle (She receives 2 points)
3. Tommy Oliver (He receives 1 point)
The character with the most points at the end of the 24-hour vote, wins! Please keep in mind that you cannot put your own nomination in first
Given how many strong nominations we have, the top 3 placements will all be considered winners and join the roster! I will be saving my votes for later, but for the rest of you, go ahead and get voting!

Job 3 - Come up with a title!
This should be self-explanatory; I don't plan on calling this thread Hasbro Fighters forever, so to start off today's jobs - A new title will be brainstormed for what this game will be called! I don't have any ideas, but I'm excited to see some of yours!

Open Discussion - How should stages be handled, and how many should we have?
Whilst chaeacters are a straightforward deal, stages are a bit more of an open book. For this job, I want to initiate the discussion of how stages will be dealt with.
Will we have a stage for every character, or just any number of stages? Should every series recieve a stage? And this feels most important - how many stages do we plan on having?
I considered having a stage nomination job, but I felt it was important to discuss this first, and I already have the title job and character vote going. Once this is all figured out, stage jobs will be quickly underway!

This is all I have planned for today - tomorrow, it's very likely we'll see another character nomination round, so be prepared!

1. Mr. Monopoly
2. Snake Eyes (Self vote)
3. ROM the Space Knight (I really the write-up based on him)

Job 3:
Hasbrawlers!
The title of the game would be portmanteau of "Hasbro" (the company that the platfighter is based on) and "brawlers" (alternatively fighters).
Also I wanted the title of the game to be short and simple.

  1. The Bard (I was thinking on submit something from D&D but I'm still very naive in that world, still, I think it would be cool have someone there)
  2. Lord Zedd (Self Vote)
  3. ROM (I just love the design, I aren't old enough to knew about him before so I pretty much guide myself from the look)
If there it was a fourth vote, I would give it to Grimmlock or Snake Eyes.

I don't have any idea for the title, Hasbro Fighters already sounds good imo, maybe Hasbro Clash or something less """"violent"""" considering the possible main target of the game?

For the stages, I decided to guide myself by other games, even the largest rosters in fighting games rarely have an equal or bigger number of stages (Ultimate would probably come to the mind of most people here but we all know that Ultimate is it very own thing and an isolate case more than the norm). So even if we end having 40 characters I think the number of stages should be way smaller. My final number would be 12 stages, the same number has vanilla Strive (this of course, don't counting the hypothetical training stage that is usually a case apart).

Votes
  1. Mr. Potato Head (He's the toy that got Hasbro on the map; It'd be criminal not to have him in.)
  2. Mr. Monopoly (Self-vote; Another iconic Hasbro character.)
  3. The Bard (I just think they're neat. Also, D&D should get a rep in sooner or later.)
Shoutouts to Colonel Mustard, who was just beaten out by the Bard.

Stage Discussion
I think 50 is a nice number of stages to have. As for what they should consist of, I agree with having a home stage for every character, but I also think some franchises who probably won't get fighters would make for fun stages. Imagine a stage based around Bop It!

All really good submissions though.

Stage Discussion

I feel we should have a good amount of stages. I like the idea FazDude FazDude posed. 50 sounds about right. Some franchises won't get stages but I would love a Scrabble and Hungry Hungry Hippos stage for sure. Heck, we should even call the stages "playlets" to stick with the toy theme.

Game Title

Hasbro Toy Tussle

I love the name Janx_uwu Janx_uwu posed but this is my own idea I'll just throw out there. Something simple and to the point.

DAY 2

Given how many strong nominations we have, the top 3 placements will all be considered winners and join the roster! I will be saving my votes for later, but for the rest of you, go ahead and get voting!

1. Snake Eyes. Iconic character, tons of moveset potential, recent film that did pretty well, from an established and beloved IP. Need I say more?
2. Mr. Monopoly. Money~ It's a fad~
3. The Bard. I would be very interested to see how the mechanics of D&D get implemented here. It's cool as hell!

Job #3: Hasbro PlayFight! It might sound like a childish name, but how better to describe a battle between toys?

Discussion Round #02: Honestly, I'm going to echo some of the points already made here. I feel like pretty much everyone should have a home stage at least, and including stages for more unusual IPs that aren't suited to fighters (like Scrabble, Battleship, Rubik's Cube and Twister!) feels like a logical idea. There's a lot of iconic franchises under the Hasbro umbrella, and seeing them included through non-fighter means (be they through stages or assists!) feels like a natural way to handle it.

I'm currently at work, but I have a chance to cast my votes right now

1. ROM
Honestly, he's a very obvious character choice for a Hasbro project, but I was afraid he wouldn't see consideration due to his obscurity. Very glad to see he was nominated on Day 1, with a fabulous write-up!
2. Snake Eyes
The face of one of Hasbro's key franchises; Hugely obvious
I may have to fasttrack a character interaction job for Snake Eyes - I can't wait to see his interactive dialogue! ;)
3. Mr. Monopoly
Probably the most immediately obvious choice after the starting 3; I don't think this roster would be complete without him.
In fact, the only reason he isn't #1 is because he's already dominating the votes!

Stage Discussion
I'm in the majority here: I think we should go heavy on stages, though probably not too heavy- the 50 stage number is a bit much for what is technically a new IP.
30 is a good number to me, perhaps 32 if we feel so inclined.
I don't think characters should have their own individual stage, though - as long as their respective series has one, it's fine. Some catch-all stages for certain series are bound to happen, anyway.
And of course there are some characters that likely won't have a stage attached to them, which is fine as well! I don't think characters such as Mr. Potato Head, if he were to get in, would have an interesting stage associated with him, and other characters are likely to fall under this umbrella, which is why I bring this up. But otherwise, most series getting stages should work fairly well given the IPs presented to us.

Stage discussion: How about 2 per character? That'd mean 70 stages if 35 wins - that way we could fully represent the single-character IPs without having to cram everything into one stage like Smash tends to do, while stage-only IPs could be contained within the second stages for the additional Transformers/MLP reps.

I don't think 70 stages is very reasonable - that's more than what Smash 4 (WiiU) had, and is more than Melee and Brawl put together
If we do the same amount of stages as we do characters, that'd net us (based on the vote) 35 stages, which is a plentiful number. Plenty of wiggle room for stage-only IPs, one-off stages and having multiple stages per series
