I thought I played poorly and apathetically for most of this game, until reading the QT where I realised I played 10 time more horrendously than that

I'm still surprised I got NK'd. I thought Mafia had this game until Tan got jailed, she was the best scum left at that point and when she fell it turned into dominoes.

By the way, I was the only who was the re director, I messed so much stuff up in the game.

GJ town.

No MVP/MVP July/MVP Swiss

Idc which. Swiss reads were the most accurate but he didn't live nearly long enough to make s significant impact. July was one of the main reasons this town was saved when I thought it was doomed so props to her for that. Otherwise no one really played all that outstandingly. Town was mediocre overall and scum just fell apart after Tanny was caught.

I wasn't in the game when it started, but once I read the D1 post, I knew the theme right away.

Errr sorry about that, that was in large part me. All I can say is I really thought you were scum ;-; After your flip I had to re-evaluate my reads entirely but I needed to see your flip and see if my head was in the right place (which unfortunately it wasn't)

Lol if we're going to get on people's cases because they pushed in the wrong direction then we're going to be here all day!
Truth!! There were a lot of missteps and wrong directions over the span of the game, but it all worked out for town :)

Town Roles

[collapse=Swiss (never received)]At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

"Soon, we must all make the choice between what is right and what is easy."

Albus Dumbledore, Town Leader of the Light

You've always loved a good party, and the annual Hogwarts Staff Halloween Party is one of the best. You called all the staff together, and some other important wizards as well, and dressed up as a version of Scrooge that you saw on a Doctor Who programme recently. (You don't want the students to think you out-of-the-loop.)

You don't have your wand; you never bring it to a party amongst friends. And you don't think it would be just to act on your own feelings in this situation anyway... although you are very intelligent, you won't deny that.

You are Unflinching -- your alignment cannot be changed by roles that change or seem to change alignment, i.e. cult leaders, yakuza, tailors etc. You will never stray down the path of evil, and people would never think you're less than you are.

Win condition:
You are town-aligned, and win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.
[/collapse][collapse=X1-12]At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

"These are dark times, there is no denying. Our world has perhaps faced no greater threat than it does today. But I say this to our citizenry: We, ever your servants, will continue to defend your liberty and repel the forces that seek to take it from you!"

Rufus Scrimgeour, Town Leader of the Light

As Minister for Magic, it is often your duty to entertain as much as it is your duty to protect. You do not enjoy it. But when you were invited to Hogwarts for the Staff Costume Party, you didn't have much choice. You threw on a mask and some tentacle charms, and went.

But now, the party is in crisis mode. This is much moreso your area of expertise, after years heading the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. You'll hold strong, and look for evidence to lead you to the culprit.

[/collapse][collapse=July]At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

"Transfiguration is some of the most complex and dangerous magic you will learn at Hogwarts. Anyone messing around in my class will leave and not come back."

Minerva McGonagall, Town Transfiguration Jailer

You were ready to have a good night. Underneath your stern professorly exterior lies a Scottish girl who enjoys letting down her hair now and again. You Transfigured a quick costume out of bedsheets for the Hogwarts Staff Costume Party and made your way there. You didn't want trouble to brew.

But luckily, you have your wand. Being the sole Professor of Transfiguration speaks for itself, and you aren't too modest to note that you're the best at what you do.

Once a Night, you may choose one player and Transfigure them into an inanimate object of your choosing for the duration of the Night. In this form they will not be able to do anything that Night. This also means that some actions will not affect your target -- for example, who would kill a table? But not all actions will be deterred.

Win condition:
You are town-aligned, and win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.
[/collapse][collapse=Circus]At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

"I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory, and even put a stopper in death."

Severus Snape, Town Potions Master

Loathe though you may be to parties, to your fellow staff, and to Halloween, the headmaster insisted that you attend the Hogwarts Staff Halloween Costume Party. The old fool has always been prone to such whimsy. You decided to wear a costume borrowed from Professor Flitwick (and took an enlarging charm to it), that of a sardonic and lonely machine from a Muggle movie you once saw. You sympathize with the character.

You're going to help sort out the killer as best you can. Making use of the costume's helmet as a cauldron, and foraging through the buffet for ingredients, you suspect you can whip up a helpful potion. In fact, you definitely have the right ingredients on hand for batches of Veritaserum.

At Night, you may choose one player and spike their pumpkin juice with a dose of Veritaserum. They will be forced to respond in truth to a single question: "Who are you?" But there's a snag; if your target player is still an amnesiac, they'll only be able to tell you who they're dressed as.

There's another hiccup in the plan, which is that the potion is difficult and takes time to brew. Every time you administer a batch of potion, you will have to spend the following Night brewing another batch. This means that you can only use your ability every other Night.

Win condition:
You are town-aligned, and win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.
[/collapse][collapse=asianaussie]At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

"Your aura is pulsing! Are you in the beyond? I think you are!"

Sybill Trelawney, Town Grim Voyeur-Prophet

You seldom venture out of your tower, preferring to sup there and avoid the Grim. But you can't resist an excursion on Halloween, this darkest of nights. And they have good food. So you tossed a couple glamour charms on your face, and set out.

Now, as always, you find yourself in terrible danger! But you are the most capable seer in a thousand years, and you will stop it before it starts.

Once a Night, you may choose one player. You will gaze into your crystal ball and see all the grim things that happen to that player -- but not who caused them.

Also, you are constantly reading the tea leaves, looking for ill signs. If anything unspeakably horrible is going to happen, you'll know.

Win condition:
You are town-aligned, and win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.
[/collapse][collapse=Gova]At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

"I know nothing of the secrets of death, Harry, for I chose my feeble imitation of life instead."

Nearly Headless Nick, Town Ghostly Tracker

Being a ghost, you haven't eaten in almost five hundred years. But you do love parties, and being a spirit your form is malleable enough; Professors McGonagall and Flitwick helped charm you to look like a Muggle character you're fond of, for the Hogwarts Staff Costume Party.

It takes a very strong memory charm to make a ghost lose his memory, but someone managed it. Now that you're back though, you're more concerned about the danger posed to the school, which has been your home for so long. You'll use your innate abilities as a ghost.

You'll play detective. Once a Night, you may choose one player, and follow them where others can't by moving through solid obstacles. You'll discover who, if anyone, that player targeted that Night.

Concerning death: magic is a powerful thing, and in your years you've seen enough to know that even ghosts aren't safe from harm. But if you're targeted for a Nightly kill by someone with no memory of being a wizard, then you'll have nothing to worry about.

Win condition:
You are town-aligned, and win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.
[/collapse][collapse=JTB]At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

"Ten Galleons a leaf to the right buyer!... Not that I'm familiar with any such back alley transactions, but one does hear rumors. My own interests are purely academic, of course."

Horace Slughorn, Town Backup

You love food and you love parties. With this party and your Slug Club parties, you've been far too busy to attend to your duties as potions master. Simply unmanageable. You attended to your party duties in clothing befitting the situation, the costume of a Muggle character you identify with.

Now that you're stuck at the party however, it loses some of its mystique. Surrounded by musty books all day, how depressing.

When a certain role dies, you will step in and perform that certain role to the best of your ability.

Win condition:
You are town-aligned, and win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.
[/collapse][collapse=Asdioh (never received)]At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

"If everything goes unfortunately today, you two may even make the front page!"

Rita Skeeter, Town Journalist

You are defender of truth and paragon of integrity. You infiltrated the Hogwarts Staff Costume Party to get the scoop on the unsavoury dealings that you knew would go on. You even dressed your best.

Now that you have your memory back, you're ready to get back to writing. But locked in as you are, you can't get your story out to the Daily Prophet. You'll have to self-publish on any writing surface you can find.

Once a Night, you'll choose one person to write about. You'll leave a report of their alignment for the entire town to read at the start of the Day.

Win condition:
You are town-aligned, and win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.
[/collapse][collapse=Asdioh2]At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

"Never forget Wizard Baruffio, who said 's' instead of 'f' and found himself on the floor with a buffalo on his chest."

Filius Flitwick, Town Backup

You like to strike a good scene at parties, so you were looking forward to the Hogwarts Staff Costume Party. You almost always drag out the same costume every year, one you acquired from an old film set many years ago. It fits you quite well.

In your youth, you were a champion duelist. Now, you're the Professor of Charms at Hogwarts School, head of Ravenclaw House, and the choir master to boot. You've done it all before.

When a certain role dies, you will step in and perform that certain role to the best of your ability.

Win condition:
You are town-aligned, and win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.
[/collapse][collapse=Red Ryu]At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

"Don't call me Nymphadora!"

Tonks, Town Metamorphmagus

With all the people at Hogwarts, Dumbledore suspected that there could be trouble at the Hogwarts Staff Costume Party, and asked you to work security. He also knows that you love a good time, not to mention good food -- he's so thoughtful. As a joke, you used your rare natural talent to morph into Dumbledore himself as a costume. He loved it, of course.

But now you'll have to get serious, since there's trouble afoot. You're perfectly equipped to deal with all manner of threats.

Once a Night, you can choose one player in the game, and change your features to theirs for the Night. As a result, any action intended for your target will instead come to you.

Win condition:
You are town-aligned, and win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.
[/collapse][collapse=Gheb]At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

"Thoughts can leave deeper scars than almost anything else."

Madam Pomfrey, Town Nurse

Second only to the caretaker Argus Filch, you're one of the few staff members whose job borders on 24/7. You might be called on day or night (and have been) to deal with all manner of nasty things that can happen to a student at Hogwarts.

So every year at the Halloween Staff Costume Party, you enjoy letting your hair down, a bit. Not too much, mind you, because you're still on the job (and students get into all kinds of trouble on Hallowe'en). You chose a costume from your wardrobe that you think reflects your attitude, that of Bridget Jones' mother, who knows how to have a proper good time without being a trollop like her daughter.

You're not sure how you lost your memory. Now that your memory has returned, however, you're ready to tackle any issues that plague the partygoers... but that said, they are all adults and are fairly capable, and you never did get to party. You'd like a bit more relaxation.

Once a Doctor has died, your role will be changed to Town Doctor and you will be informed as such. Your role does not serve as a Backup for any other type of protective role, only a Doctor. It suffices that the dead player is a Doctor -- they do not have to be theme-aware.

Win condition:
You are town-aligned, and win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.
[/collapse][collapse=SangfroidWarrior]At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

"You'd know all about the madness within, wouldn't you Remus?"

Sirius Black, Town Marauder-Mason

You could never resist a party. With the help of your friend Remus Lupin (Shadow Moth), you got into the Hogwarts Staff Halloween Party. You may be a fugitive, but hopefully with your costume, no one will recognize you. The two of you even coordinated, sort of -- you're both dressed as your favourite villains. But now that the party has taken a bad turn, you'll both plan to take down evil. It'll be just like the old days.

You know Shadow Moth to be Town, and vice versa.

If you discover the theme first, Shadow Moth will be tipped off by you the next Night phase, and will remember their true identity.

You can talk to your mason partner at all times at this link: http://www.quicktopic.com/46/H/8WBR2g4bQ2vpd

Win condition:
You are town-aligned, and win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.
[/collapse][collapse=Shadow Moth]Your good friend jogged your memory! At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

"Finally, the flesh reflects the madness within."

Remus Lupin, Town Marauder-Mason

Sirius Black (SangfroidWarrior) could never resist a party. You helped to sneak him into the school and into the Hogwarts Staff Halloween Party. Hopefully no one will recognize him through his costume, you don't want to cause trouble. The two of you even coordinated, sort of -- you're both dressed as your favourite villains. But now that the party has taken a bad turn, you'll both plan to take down evil. It'll be just like the old days.

You know SangfroidWarrior to be Town, and vice versa.

"It's happening again, like before, and soon neither you nor anyone else will be able to deny it."

Igor Karkaroff, Town Vanilla

You dragged yourself all the way to Hogwarts School to attend the Halloween Costume Party, got yourself all styled and costumed. But no one at the party will even talk to you unless they have to. It's clear everyone is wary.

But what do you care? You're the proud, strong headmaster of Durmstrang, and you don't need some Brit fjolla patronizing you anyway. At least in the Death Eaters, people treated you with some respect.

You have no nightly abilities.

Win condition:
You are town-aligned, and win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.
[/collapse]
Notes:
  • Flitwick was a backup for McGonagall, and would've become Town Roleblocker.
  • Rita Skeeter was actually Town Yellow Journalist, an insane variant of the described role.
  • Madam Pomfrey didn't back up anyone, because there was no Doctor.
  • Igor Karkaroff was actually Town Miller.

Yeah, I figured that your read on me was too much of a distraction for this to turn out well with me being around. Success proves you right though.

:059:
Sorry for tunneling again, hopefully next game I'll be able to get a better read on you
or we can just be indy lovers again :p

Before I say anything else, I just want to point out that I posted this, back before I ever got my role PM.
In place of that gif, I almost used this one:

Which would have been awesome, since I ended up being Snape.

Oh, and about that....

DAMMIT SCUM. I join a game with flavor that I like, only to quickly discover that the true flavor is something I like even more, and that I am one of my favorite characters in the series, with a PR that is actually useful (which I hardly ever get), and you KILL ME ON NIGHT 1!

SO SALTY, KUZ. SO SALTY.

I also thought my British Actors mafia guess was pretty damn close considering Harry Potter is a series that has managed to include basically all of the actors in Great Britain.

I wasn't in the game when it started, but once I read the D1 post, I knew the theme right away.

"When in doubt, I find retracing my steps to be a wise place to begin."
For sure. Nabe basically gave away the theme at the beginning of D1.

I miss Ranmaru.
Miss you too bro!

Me too. I'll take Robert Downey Jr. sweaty, half-naked and on his back any day of the week.
Yeah same here.

--------

Also, I got really confused... with the scum 'may or may not have communication' thing. I also did relate it to some skype mafia games.

Lol if we're going to get on people's cases because they pushed in the wrong direction then we're going to be here all day!
lol, half this game was a case of town tunneling town, which i suppose is normal for mafia games.

what comes to mind is
july->gheb
gheb->ran
x1->jdioh

i'm sure there were more, but town somehow managed to win anyway :3

"When in doubt, I find retracing my steps to be a wise place to begin."
awww, I should have caught that.

My problem with guessing the theme was that if I knew I was trying to guess for a movie/book/etc. I would have been much more capable. I thought it would be something more complex though, I thought it might have been more... general, vague, philosophical etc.

Did July's N0 guess go through? "July: Actors/actresses from Harry Potter series"

MVP: Nabe

edit: aww i want to see mafia roles. they knew who they were from the start, right?

Scum Roles

Mafia
[collapse=EBR! (never received)]At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

"Who would suspect p-p-poor, st-st-stuttering Professor Quirrell?"

Quirinus Quirrell, Mafia Horcrux-Yakuza
WITH PARTNERS
VULT REDUX
TANDORA

At last, you remember your purpose. You remember why you're here.

You seek to kill Albus Dumbledore and the faculty of his school. You seek to take control and become the new Headmaster of Hogwarts. And above all else, you seek to kill Harry Potter. Disguised amongst the staff at the Hogwarts Halloween Christmas Party, you planned to kill everyone. But you and your partners lost your memories.

Now that you've regained your purpose, you must set out once more to kill anyone and everyone in your way of obtaining what's rightfully yours. But Quirrell is not always the best host, and there may come a time when you need someone new. You are skilled in the dark magicks, including possession.

Once per game, at Night, you may choose one player. You will give up your life in exchange for that player becoming a Mafia Goon and gaining access to the Mafia QT. Despite being dead, you will remain in private communication with the mafia until your newly recruited Goon has died.

You can talk to your mafia partners, if they are theme-aware, at this link: http://www.quicktopic.com/46/H/fba6YgpDRKwKG

Your revised fakeclaim is Pomona Sprout, Town _____.[collapse=Partial List of Roles Not In This Game]
  • Doctor
  • Vigilante
  • Plant
  • Watcher
  • Bomb
  • Firefighter
  • Princess
You may request for me to write a full role PM (one, and only one) pertaining to any role of your choice to fill the blank. (You are not limited to choosing the provided roles.) And remember your original fakeclaim as well!

Win condition:
You are mafia-aligned, and win when the mafia has a majority over everyone else, or when nothing can prevent the same.
[/collapse][/collapse][collapse=Your memory has returned...? (EBR!)]

IN DEATH, YOU ARE
Spirit of Voldemort, Mafia Weak Yakuza

First and foremost, this is very important: starting as soon as you've received this PM, you cannot post in the game thread, up to when the game has concluded. I will be extremely strict about this. Do not post.

Your spirit flies from the body of Quirrell. Quickly, you must choose another vessel -- but who to choose? In your current state, you're only capable of Weak Possession, which works as follows.

In the Twilight phase of the Day phase in which you are lynched, you must choose exactly two players who you'd like to recruit. If both chosen players are viable targets, I will flip a coin to determine who is recruited. If only one player is viable, that player will be chosen. If neither player is viable, then no one will be recruited.

Until the recruited player discovers the true theme (Harry Potter Mafia) they will remain Town and will count towards the town, not the mafia.

You may write a message to send to your player choices. This message can only be one word long, and both chosen players will receive the message.

The town will be publicly informed that a player's alignment has shifted, the Night following the Day you are lynched.

If and when your recruited player becomes aware of the theme, you will be given access to the Mafia quicktopic at the same time, and will have the ability to speak within that QT if you choose to.

Until the recruited player becomes theme-aware, Vult Redux and Tandora will not be informed of your player choices.

You may ask questions if you have any. You have 24 hours to decide on two players and a message.[/collapse][collapse=Vult Redux]At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

ERUPTING BURNING RYKERRR!!!
TANDORA

You've dreamed of this day for so long. The day when the Dark Lord rises again. The Ministry thinks you dead -- they've got a surprise in store.

With the help of the school janitor, you got into Hogwarts and disguised yourself as Alestor "Mad-Eye" Moody, the infamous paranoid Auror. You were planning an ambush at the Hogwarts Staff Costume Party; many important witches and wizards were to be there. With one fell swoop, you'd take them all out, ensuring His rise to glory.

But something went amiss, and your memory was erased. You're still a little hazy, but no matter -- you're back on track to deal with these people. But now that they're clued in, you'll have to be cautious.

You are Polyjuiced as Moody -- as a result, a sane investigation will report you as town.

You can talk to your mafia partners, if they are theme-aware, at this link: http://www.quicktopic.com/46/H/fba6YgpDRKwKG

Your revised fakeclaim is Rubeus Hagrid, Town Leader of the Light. You may request for me to write a full role PM pertaining to this role. And remember your original fakeclaim as well!

Win condition:
You are mafia-aligned, and win when the mafia has a majority over everyone else, or when nothing can prevent the same.

VULT REDUX

Wizards. They never treat you properly since you can't do magic. They call you a squib. Those students have the nerve to look down on you, and the teachers are no different, snickering behind your back. But they'll get theirs. You've thrown in with some Death Eaters and invited them into the castle, and you'd planned to take out the teachers during the Hogwarts Staff Costume Party. But everyone lost their memories, you're not sure what happened. However, now you're back and ready to cause havoc.

Once a Night, you can stalk a player of your choosing. You will learn their true character and role. You will not learn that player's costume, regardless of whether or not they've guessed the true theme.

Also once a Night, you can hide the identity of your faction's Nightly kill. This action can be taken regardless of whether or not your mafia partners are theme-aware.

You can take one or both of these actions at once.

You can talk to your mafia partners, if they are theme-aware, at this link: http://www.quicktopic.com/46/H/fba6YgpDRKwKG

Win condition:
You are mafia-aligned, and win when the mafia has a majority over everyone else, or when nothing can prevent the same.
[/collapse][collapse=Something takes hold of you! (Shadow Moth)]For better or for worse, Shadow Moth, you are now...

Remus Lupin, Mafia Goon

The spirit of Voldemort, driven from the body of Professor Quirrell, has chosen to reside in you! He takes you over completely.

You have no nightly abilities.

You may talk to your mafia partners here: http://www.quicktopic.com/46/H/fba6YgpDRKwKG

Win condition:
You are mafia-aligned, and win when the mafia has a majority over everyone else, or when nothing can prevent the same.

MOD NOTE
You may still talk to SangfroidWarrior in your prior mason QT.

Good luck with your new wincon![/collapse]
Independent
[collapse=Sworddancer.]At last, you've remembered who you are! You are...

"To question my practices is to question the Ministry, and by extension, the Minister himself. I am a tolerant woman, but the one thing I will not stand for is disloyalty."

Dolores Umbridge, Independent Ministry Register

At Hogwarts, you are the lone soldier that stands between Dumbledore and the students! The Minister for Magic knows that Dumbledore is amassing a student army, and as Senior Undersecretary for the Minister it is up to you to take action. In your clever yet stunningly beautiful disguise, you came into the Hogwarts Halloween party with the intent to sort out the good teachers from the bad.

Once a Night (including Night 0) you must choose one player of this game. That player will be entered onto the Ministry register of Undesirables for their horrid crimes against the old pureblooded laws of our wizarding world. You will catalogue them with a picture as well, and stamp your seal of approval upon it.

An example is below (a register you already made):[collapse=Undesirable No. 0]

Registered Undesirable to the Ministry for Magic for the following crimes:

  • For use of memory charms (including Obliviate) that far exceeded provisions of standard use of memory charms by the public, as outlined by Decree 33, part C, paragraph F, line 3.
  • For alleged consorting with vampires, werewolves, banshees etc.
  • For criminally misteaching the students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The teachers will try to stop you at every turn, but you must prevail!

You are also Unflinching -- you cannot be recruited by any role that changes one's win condition, i.e. cult leaders, yakuza etc.

Your revised fakeclaim is Madame Maxime, Town Fashion Cop. You may request for me to write a full role PM pertaining to this role. And remember your original fakeclaim as well!

Win condition:
You are independently-aligned -- you win when you have registered all remaining players at some point during the course of the game. [Note that this applies even if you're dead - you just can't register or do anything anymore. This is the Moral Victory clause -- you wrote it into the rules yourself!]
p.s. haha Ryker I stole your wincon from Touhou

This is a very hard role to win; use good judgment in your nightly choices! Good luck!

I definitely think I read him too harshly looking back on it, but his response to the EBR wagon and to the inactives really threw me off. I've played with Gheb before, although not where he was town actually so I should have factored that and the fact that he was a replacement in more to my read as well.

Other PMs

[collapse=Your time has come! (JTB)]With Snape dead, you suppose the duty of Potions Master falls to you. Your time has come at last. You are really the Backup Potions Master!

You have one potion on hand and one only, a single bottle of Veritaserum -- truth potion.

On any Night, you may choose one player and spike their pumpkin juice with a dose of Veritaserum. They will be forced to respond in truth to a single question: "Who are you?" But there's a snag; if your target player is still an amnesiac, they'll only be able to tell you who they're dressed as.

You only have one shot, so use it wisely. Good luck![/collapse]

"Ahh, c'est magnifique!"

Madame Maxime, Town Fashion Cop

You were invited by Professor Dumblydore to ze Hogwarts Staff Halloween Party, but never did you soupçonne that the Hogwarts staff would have such appalling fashion sense!

Once a Night (including Night 0) you may choose one player of this game. That player will be found guilty by you of crimes against fashion! You will catalogue them with a picture, and stamp your seal of approval upon it.

An example is below (a criminal you already took note of):
[collapse=Faux Pas Numéro 0]

Il commis des crimes suivants contre la mode:
  • Wears a sword
  • A ring (sur le petit doigt!)
  • Carries a skull
  • Socks with sandals

Perhaps the evildoers amongst you will be dressed poorly!

  • For sustained periods of uncleanliness, including but not limited to greasy hair. [There doesn't seem to be a law in the books... yet]
  • For suspicion of being a Dumbledore supporter.
  • For criminally misteaching the students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
