I main lucas, and was wondering who would be a good lucas side. There may have been another topic in the past like this, I think I had seen one. Anyway. Please give me some ideas.

Welcome to smashboards ^_^

You want someone that has a good matchup on marth, metaknight, DK, and G&W as a priority. Marth and metaknight are probably your best bets in that regard.

Snake is a pretty good secondary since he deals with your bad match-ups pretty well.

I use Diddy Kong.

I use ROB....the only one of the five that ROB has significant trouble with is Game and Watch, and MK, of course, but lots of characters have that weakness.

I'm trying to learn Marth just for the Game and Watch matchup....lol

Luigi seriously pwns Snake and DK IMO. :chuckle:
In Luigi vs. G&W, you can DI up out of his turtle and Fire Jump Punch him. XD

Ness isnt a good second for Lucas
Their too similar and have the same bad matchups
The point of a secondary is to deal with the matchups
your main cant handle:)

I use Lucas as my secondary. That is all.
I get to practice my deadly matchups constantly here, so
I just try to deal with it >_>

[on topic]
if I had to pick a second it would probably just be MK, but it's no
fun if you make it that easy ;)

Imo just go who with you're good with. If that doesn't work, just go MK, Marth, or Snake :chuckle:.

ZSS is a great secondary for Lucas
She takes care of all of the Deadly 4
G&W(60-40), DK(60-40), Marth(50-50), and she can handle MK pretty good even though the matchup is 40-60

She can also handle some of Lucas' 40-60 matches too
like Peach and ROB

Ive been using her alot lately and her play style is similar to Lucas
so its not too hard to pick her up if your a Lucas main:)

I personally have Zelda, Peachy, Fox, and Meta Knight as other characters I can use.
Zelda is my other main with Peach Fox and MK being Secondaries.

I use G&W and I find that it works very very well. It shortens Lucas' 20-80 Matchup to a 50-50 with G&W. I find that nice. Also, MK is a bit better.

Yeah....those matchup numbers are wrong. It's in G&W's favor, but by no means is it 80-20.

imo its 65-35
wtf

It seems worse than that.
  • Beats PKF with bucket
  • Beats PKF with turtle
  • Outprioritizes all of our aerials
  • Destroys our PKT recovery
  • Plus he has a lot of good counterpick stages like cruise
  • Up-B beats our Dair (I think)
The only advantage I can think of is that we beat him on the ground but G&W hardly stays on the ground at all
=/

You need to learn that match up better, as turtle only beating PKF from a very specific angle.
He can't up-b WHILE being daired.

Turtle is annoying and strong, but it IS spaceable.

And believe it or not, GaW has a lot of laggy attacks, they just don't look laggy.

If Lucas DI's out, he'll just Dair straight down from the momentum and suffer some landing lag.

I like how no one mention the fat man :p.

I would suggest Wario or tripple D for the win.
just don't get chain grabbed if you plan to use Wario.

I think it depends on the skill of the player rather than the character picked. A good Lucas player good probably do well against someone who has no skill with G&W. Or maybe the other way around, either way some skill is required.

Even if that's true, it's anything but a "the best player wins" scenario.

even on the ground, G&W has an advantage with longer range tilts. He can wall lucas pretty hard.

Someone said that G&W's up-B cancels aerial approaches. I think it was a commentator at COT4. A G&W player did that to me once.
Old Matchup numbers are confusing me.
