Since I am kinda new to making a thread like this, I figured I will start off. Any of you remember the Giana Sisters? You know, That one Mario clone that got a remake on the DS and recently had 2 games on the Wii U Xbox One and PS4. ((Twisted Dreams and Runners to be exact)) I thought... why not include her for DLC then? She does somewhat have more to do with Nintendo's history if you think about it in a way, Plus maybe now she can finally get revenge on a certain... Pudgy red plumber.

Now why Giana? That's a good question, Sure she started out as a little Mario clone but unlike characters like Shovel Knight who are newborn indies born on several different consoles or so, Giana's revival started on the Nintendo DS. So she has more relation to Nintendo than you think.

And before you say she would just be a Mario clone, Giana has been shown to be much different from Mario. Her projectiles and playstyle in the first game felt different than the Plumber and also In fact, Her reboot completely retooled her into something much more starting with Twisted Dreams. Giana has both a cute and punk persona.

Her 'cute' form so on has the abilty to spin and twirl. Basically her typical "normal" form in the DS game and the C64 original. She would probably be revolved more around agility rather than aggression which brings me to...

Her gothic 'punk' form is one is known for her brute strength and abilities revolving around fire. From the original game to the DS one, she had the ability to shoot "Dream Bubbles", and in the first game, collecting several lightning bolts could improve it's statistics such as making them home in on monsters or bounce off walls.

Along her powers starting in the DS game was the ability to float around in a giant bubble of gum or melt away stones with a cola bottle. All in all, she has what I think plenty of potential for her own moveset.

So what do you think? Personally, the battle between Giana and Mario is long overdue. She fits all the requirements to me and I'd be more than happy to see her in the game.

EDIT: Thank you for all your great support, Giana fans. Lets hope for the best. :)

I have never played the original but was sold on the series the moment I discovered one of my favourite bands had covered its main theme. Twisted Dreams did not disappoint in any way and, while it's an insanely brutal and frustrating death fest, that is part of its appeal, alongside the music switching gimmick and sheer level of colour that make the game a beautiful nod to its cartridge based era, where such things were all the rage.
I would be in full support of Giana but I still doubt she has enough awareness to pull in the votes.

EDIT: Have some moves. I'm still thinking on the others but she'll likely be quite Mario like, if only because of her similar gameplay and character model.

Up B - Cannonball: This is Giana's main recovery move but not her only one. Using it will transform her hair into its punk colouration and launch her upwards in a motion that strongly resembles Fire Fox. In actuality, however, this is more akin to Kirby's dash from Melee, with a hitbox that will never clank and will therefore allow Giana and her opponent to both recieve damage and knockback from an attack. The B button can be held to charge the move for up to the charge time of Fire Fox and will go just slightly further at full charge. During this time it can be aimed with the control stick in any direction and it will rebound off solid surfaces for a slight distance increase. It does approximately 9% damage and will cause reasonable knockback in the direction of the attack, though a high percentage will be needed for it to kill. It will also cause the user to jump up and away slightly on impact.
Forward B - Crystal Toss: Giana tosses a crystal ball that can be angled like most forward tilts or smashes. It is an item which will travel long distances and rebound off any surfaces or shields, eventually slowing to a halt before slowly fading away. If grabbed, it can be rethrown and if it hits a player, it will shatter into nothingness, doing 4% damage in the process. While this item is on screen, Giana cannot spawn another. The knockback is nearly non-existent.
Neutral B - Spark Shield: Rubbing her hands together, Giana generates a spark of electricity which she spreads across her body in one quick motion, reflecting projectiles and doing ~5% damage on contact, with similar properties to Nayru's Love.
Down B - Pirouette: A secondary recovery move, this special has Giana turn blonde, twirling and floating upwards slightly with the same basic effect as Doc's Mario Tornado. It hits 4 times for 2% each and gives 25 degrees upwards knockback on the last strike with a similar degree of force to Giana's Up B. After the attack, this move leaves the user in a special spinning state werein she falls far slower than normal and only the tiniest bit faster than Peach's umbrella's fall. This can be ended by pressing down.

Literally who.

Perhaps some pictures, some background, and some moveset potential could get people interested in this idea.

I've never heard of this character, and what is Black Forest Games and where did they say they wanted her in Smash? Links to this stuff is what's needed to drum up interest and speculation, which are cornerstones of any Ballot character support thread.

The best I can do is look up things like this or this, and so on. Basically the franchise started off as a Mario clone on the C64 and was later revived on the DS, The most recent game: Twisted Dreams has gotten a lot of critical praise since it's recent release and they are already working on a sequel that's early in development. Plus the games themselves are gems. (No pun intended)

I already know what moveset she'd have.
A clone of Mario's.
Hardly. While Giana could have some pretty similar A moves to Mario, there is no reason why she would have to. The projectile from her first game has very different properties to Mario's and the two form, dependant special moves she was given in Twisted Dreams bear no resemblence to any of his current B moves. I will admit that the pirouette has some similarities to Mario Tornado from Doc and/or Melee but it also has completely different usage, being more about Peach style floatiness than agression.

Basic Specials have been outlined above, there's an image of the main character's two forms further down this post and right here is some badass music:

No, that's not the original main theme but it is the band who does half the music for the recent games so expect them and maybe even it in Smash alongside Giana.

As for who Black Forest Games are, the DS title didn't sell too well so, when the company died, a few (roughly 5) people who loved Giana Sisters split off and made what they deemed a true sequel to the original, with none of the restrictions of corperate overlords. The resulting product was one of the most authentic retro-styled platformers I have ever experienced, with simple mechanics, insane difficulty, beautiful use of colour that looked great even for a PS3 game, unnecessary collectables in every level and even instantaneous music changes the likes of which haven't been seen elsewhere since the N64.
Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams is a masterpiece which deserves way more recognition than it recieved but, as far as I know, it and Dream Runners are all they have made.

P.S. Did you spot the nod to Sonic level texturing in Punk Giana's attire?

I'd accept them. The more the merrier.

I mean, if they're from quality games, then might as well.

All those votes on "No".... No offense, but I think it's hypocritical with how many people are supporting Shovel Knight and all, someone who hasn't been sold as it's own "physical" game.

Nevermind. ((I have a feeling someone's trolling somehow, I dunno why))

@ Mario123311 Mario123311 Don't worry, my character (Bartz) received a lot of no responses. The Giana sisters received an indifferent from me because I never played the games they appeared in.

I don't even vote on characters I have no knowledge of. I think that's your problem here though, people are actively against the inclusion of characters they don't know.

I've mentioned this in the poll thread, as well as explaining a flaw in the poll itself and plugging Twisted Dreams. The difficulty was infuriating but everything else still had me hooked and coming back for more, I truly loved that game until I could nolonger progress at all.

Makes sense... Wish I could find a way to reach out to more supporters out there, I have seen a few on other sites and whatnot. Even if she doesn't make it here though, hey... Smash 5 is still possible.

I still think she deserves more reconization though. I'm not entirely against the idea of Shovel Knight or Shantae. And Shantae makes sense being a GBC game originally, Shovel Knight on the other hand... Well, he's a new aged indie who I don't really recall having much of a history with Nintendo at all for that matter. Giana has in otherworlds, and eventually ironically was revived on a Nintendo system for that matter.

But I digress. I'm not going to bash/hate other people for their opinions honestly. Though I tend to get annoyed when they just hear one thing and they decide automatically "no".

It's like the people who didn't want Pac-Man, all claiming he was nothing more then, well... A yellow pizza. (And even Sakurai himself desmissed the character from Brawl due to the same reason...)

*sighs and pulls out all 3 Pac-Man World games*

If only...

I want this. It would be awesome to have her fight Mario, his friends, and the rest of the Nintendo characters too.

You have my support.

Those are some great ideas so far. I also like the idea of Giana being in Smash in addition to other characters that I'm hoping for.
I think it's nice how the Giana Sisters series went from being an attempt to clone Super Mario to eventually becoming its own thing. I've only played Twisted Dreams so far, but it's one of my favorite platformers ever.

Likewise. The difficulty was a little too much for me by the end so I've never finished it but even in that it keeps the retro feel. It's a masterpiece both in terms of playing to its audience and in sheer beauty and even when I was raging at my PS3 controller I was loving it.

Someone doesn't understand the meaning of "Doesn't Care for". And for that... I never said I hated him, and people are allowed to give their two cents. Yet... seriously? Wow. And no, I wasn't mad at those who supported him. I was mad at people who go out of their way saying that he should have been in over Pac-Man and how he "didn't deserve to be in".

See what I mean?

No drama here plz, thanx.

You flamed the thread, guy.

And carried it over to the namco thread.

Plus your OP needs more substance, i've seen support threads with more than that get locked for lack of substance.

I will, But let me just also say that I did not flame that thread, I gave my 2 cents. Please do not bring drama to here for gods sake. It's kind of why I stayed away from looking into any of Klonoa's games thanks to those types of people. ((Seriously, "Mario, Mega Man, Sonic & Klonoa" is just wouldn't feel right, honestly.))

Here's a screenshot of you clearly stating the fans get on your nerves for supporting the character.

Also you repeatedly posted your 2 cents, in a support thread.
It's irrelevant to post unsupportive stuff in a support thread because your just gonna aggro supporters, your 2 cents isn't needed.
Which is flaming.

I said that because of people I had met who kept saying such things I stated above. Why are you trying to derail this thread? Stop. And again, I've seen plenty of people go into threads and give THEIR 2 cents. Is it not okay to state an opinion? It's like the guys who keep talking about Geno, It gets to the point that it gets on my nerves. Also that was NEVER in the Klonoa support thread. That was for something in general about Third-Party second reps.

Knock this off.

Here are a few ideas that I have so far.

Stage:
If Giana gets a stage, I think the Wii U version would look like Twisted Dreams and the 3DS version would look like the first game or the DS game. I think the dream/nightmare transition should only be visual and happen based on time or when the first Giana player changes forms (Player 1 if two players for example). The appearance that the stage starts with would be randomly selected so that both forms will be seen even when battles are short.

Music:
I think a majority of the songs can be from Twisted Dreams since most of those songs are remixed songs from the first Giana Sisters game. To keep the song list simple, I think the cute and dark versions of each song should count as the same track, with the dark version playing after the cute version during Sound Test or My Music. In addition to music from Twisted Dreams, I think a medley of the first game's music would also be nice.

Trailer:
I think Giana's trailer can be similar Duck Hunt's trailer in that it would start with an 80's look. The trailer can start out during the middle or end of a Super Mario Bros. level and Giana would interrupt Mario before he enters the castle after going down the flagpole. Then when they start to battle, the visuals will turn modern and then it will show gameplay footage.

Posting your opinion is fine if it is not done in an angry or deliberately trolling tone. If you're angry at someone for just posting his opinion then it's your fault, I'm afraid.

And try not to mini-mod please.

So, for those who missed: I updated the OP with a bit more info. Also I guess I found something that's worth sharing.

I imagine both forms would be costumes considering the 3DS's limitations, but I could also see a "Shape-Shifting" thing working like Pac-Man.

Since only half the specials change in that setup and their A moves are likely to only vary in a similar way to Melee Roy and Marth, it doesn't seem like it would be nearly as data intensive as two unique forms. Perhaps the 3DS could handle such a minor transformation.
I like it but the team colours seem very unobvious.

I support Giana. The ability to switch personalities is pretty interesting to me, and the game doesn't look half-bad. I can see now however, just why the game was considered a big Super Mario Bros. clone. Still, good-looking game, nonetheless. Again, in the end, I support.

Those moveset ideas that you all have posted so far are pretty good.
I wonder if Giana can have any moves based on how the transformations affect her surroundings in Twisted Dreams. I imagine that those kind of moves can work similarly to Villager's tree planting & cutting move.

That actually would be pretty neat, honestly. Typically I imagined Cute Giana would be more lightweight and fast, Punk being more combat and strength oriented.

I was also seeing Punk Giana as having a slightly hunched over brawler pose, making her a tiny bit smaller, while Cute Giana stood up straight (maybe even on tiptoes) and in doing so gained a little range.

It may take some time for the series to get popular enough, but I think Giana would be a great addition to Smash and I really think she has the potential to be in a Smash game eventually.

What ideas do you want to discuss next? Are there some ideas that you want to share about Giana's stage or what music they may use. Judging from what I've seen in the Mario Maker stage, a transforming stage seems like a possibility.

Guess it's worth noting Giana's getting rated on chance/want scale tomorrow apparently. Given though I feel most on Smashboards may have only looked at her first game before anything, Hopefully they read this though.
http://smashboards.com/threads/rate...-representation.398604/page-288#post-20253168 Bet there are plenty of other supporters outside so feel free to share.

But yeah. And with the Ballot over... Now we wait. And there is still always next time, probably... :3

I think a stage with a transforming gimmick would be great to see.

Now that I think about it BTW: For the 2 different versions I can now imagine one stage being based off her DS reboot ((obviously for the 3DS)) similar to Mushroomy Kingdom with a side scrolling thing to it, and the Twisted Dreams one on the Wii U.

Also, Yeah: There doesn't seem to be many aware of Giana here on this Forum... Eheh..
((You'd be surprised how many other fans there are outside though. ;P))

I kind wonder what the Snake codec or Palutena's Guidance would be for Giana. Do you think there would be a description for each form or both forms?
