Pausing of any kind will result in the player who initiated it to forfeit a stock unless opted out by the opponent.

See below for more detailed rules.

~~Smash 4 Stagelist:
Starter stages are:

Lylat Cruise

Counterpicks are:
Dreamland 64

Omega stages*

*Omega stages and Miiverse are considered the same as Final Destination and Battlefield, respectively, in terms of bans.

Gentleman's rule: A player may choose a non-legal stage as long as all players agree to it.

~~Order of events for stage striking, bans, and character selection:
Game one:
Players choose a character. If any player prefers, a double-blind pick may be made to avoid character counter-picking.
Players rock-paper-scissors for first strike of starter stages.
Player one strikes one stage.
Player two strikes two stages.
Player one chooses a stage from the remaining two choices.

Game two and beyond:
No player can select a stage they have already won on unless agreed to by opponent. (Dave's Stupid Rule)
Winning player bans three stages from the complete list of starters and counterpicks.
Losing player selects a stage from the available list.
Winning player selects character.
Losing player selects character.

~~Melee Stagelist:

~~Other rules:
The purpose of the amateur bracket (and its payout) is to promote growth in the community for players of ALL skill levels. Any player who is considered to have sandbagged (or intentionally lost) for the sake of placing in the amateur bracket will be disqualified from the event.
When the timer hits 0:00, the player with the higher stock count is the winner. If players are tied in stocks, the player with the lower percentage is the winner. In the event of a percentage tie, or a match in which both players lost their last stock simultaneously, a 1 stock tiebreaker will be played with a 3:00 time limit. The result of the game’s built-in Sudden Death does not count towards the set count.
Any wireless controller must be desynced from the system after your match. Failure to do so can affect other players and games. First offense will result in a warning and the second will result in disqualification from the bracket.
Gamepads are allowed under the stipulation that since only one can be synced, if both players choose to use one, neither player is permitted.
Coaching during play is not allowed. Coaching between rounds must not delay the match excessively, at the discretion of TOs.
In general players should choose character costumes that are similar to the team color. Players may request that their opponent change colors to accommodate colorblindedness, or if their color is indistinguishable from either the other team color or the stage background. This request must be made before the first game of the set.
The act of stalling, or intentionally making the game unplayable, is banned and at the discretion of the TOs.
If a match ends with the successful use of a character’s self-destruct move, the results screen will determine the winner. If it results in sudden death, the initiator of the move wins.
Button checks/finger warm-ups are to be kept brief as to not hold up the bracket, generally under a minute, at the discretion of TOs.
"Mike Haze" Rule: Any intentional startling/distracting of an opponent (e.g. yelling) is not allowed and will result in disqualification as ruled by TOs.
