Duck Hunt Dog, a Snake replacement?

Looking at DHD's specials, they all seem very similar to Snake, explosive zoning moves that can also be controlled, and even the use of guns like Snake was supposed to have. Even DHD's Up B is very similar to Snake's. Do you think these similarities were done on purpose to replace Snake while keeping his fighting style since he couldn't be put in the game?

I feel like he's a fusion of Snake and Diddy, its a lot of projectile/item management to zone your opponent out. As a Brawl Diddy main I find myself gravitating towards this character.

I don't really see it as a replacement so much as similar themes. imo characters aren't created to compensate for the loss of another.
