This weekend marked another successful year for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U in one of the most prestigious fighting game tournament series, CEO. Getting the Sunday spot once again, Smash 4’s Top 8 delivered some of the most intense games of the tournament.
Top 8
In the winner’s side of the top 8 we got the regular Gonzalo “ZeRo” Barrios, Kengo “KEN” Suzuki, Nairoby “Nairo” Quesada and Larry “LarryLur” Holland. On the loser’s side, Zack “CaptainZack” Lauth, Tyler “Marss” Martins, Leonardo “MkLeo” López Pérez and Saleem “Salem” Akiel Young prepared to fight.
ZeRo vs KEN came down to a close game 5, where ZeRo’s impenetrable defense proved too much for KEN though he almost got the reverse 3-0. Nairo managed to get a strong start against Larry, but ultimately lost 3-1. Meanwhile, Zack won his losers’ match with a very convincing 3-0 against Marss, while Leo made a switch to Corrin to clutch out a 3-2 win over Salem.
On the other side of Top 8, Zack won his match with a very convincing 3-0 against Marss, while Leo narrowly avoided defeat with a quick switch to Corrin, defeating Salem 3-2.
In Winner’s Finals, ZeRo continued his sweep of the Top 8, making short work of Larry with a quick 3-0, dropping Larry into Loser’s Finals, where MkLeo was waiting for him. After beating both KEN and Nairo 3-1, Leo took down Larry with a devastating 3-0. Larry had previously sent Leo to losers’ bracket on Saturday, so it was interesting to see the adjustments he made in order to have a chance at ZeRo.
On Grand Finals, ZeRo proved to be unstoppable, winning CEO 2017 with a very convincing 3-1 and adding yet another tournament under his belt.
