Being the main antagonist in a multi million dollar selling franchise is pretty important if you ask me. And you're missing my point, i didn't say rob, g&w and duck aren't deserving of thier slots, or that k rool should of gotten in before them. I just find it hypocritical that people are saying "k rool shouldn't be in smash because he's hasn't been in a game for years" yet don't pay mind to the fact that the three fighters i mentioned have been absent from gaming longer than he has.

I think what he's trying to say is that those three characters represent different parts of Nintendo's history--similar to how Pac-Man not only represents himself, but also other elements of Namco. It shows that those three characters (and even the Ice Climbers) represent something a lot bigger than the characters themselves--Game and Watch with...Game and Watch--Duck Hunt with NES--ROB with Famicom/SNES--Ice Climbers were picked to represent...NES I believe? Reasons for K. Rolls inclusion and those three are not exactly the same--K. Roll comes from a widely successful series, yes, but he does not have the advantage of being an icon like the three previously mentioned characters do--he would get some points for being another villan in the series, though.

reverse psychology I think. People used to think Wolf is so guaranteed and every rumors/"leaks" with Wolf is considered likely, but after so many updates without Wolf, people start to lose hope and "leak"ers starts to make rumors saying Wolf isn't next DLC as opposed to everything happened that was proven otherwise, just to seek credibility or ****.

Or, that since the next DLC is likely for ballot, so people want to make leaks that are more hype and since "Wolf/veterans stealing the DLC spots" is a common mindset, people try to make rumors against that to attract more hype or attention.

Hey, Snake thread. I put in a few votes for him throughout the ballot, at least one of which is somewhere in this thread, and I'm excited to see how things play out. I'm hoping one of our DLC characters is Snake, he's my most-wanted vet.

True. I was using k rool as an example of my justification theory.
I wouldn't believe a word this stealth guy has to say. I keep hearing he's a wolf hating troll on gamefaqs that goes by the name rpgrinder. I've been lurking there from time to time and he's ridiculous. According to him, "Sakurai hates wolf and has openly expressed distain for his character, and regrets ever adding him." When asked for a source he'll say, "What's the point? It's not like any of you guys will read it." After some google search, nothing remotely like that ever came up. Just look up Wolf is gone on gamefaqs, you'll find a ton of his b.s. in that thread. In fact, look up any wolf related thread he's bound to be there.

Think of it this way, guys. Those people who hate such huge icons, they're scared--they cower in fear that a character they hate is going to be included. But this is why the Wolf supporters are vigorous--because we're Wolves and we know Wolf has a good chance. We don't need to defend him, if someone says Wolf is 'just another Fox' just laugh, tell them what they want to hear and pat them on the heads--humor them. AWOOOOO!

Mewtwo: 9/10 (Really missed him since Melee and it's great to see him back)

Lucas: 9/10 (It just didn't feel the same having Ness without Lucas on his side, so I was really glad to see him return)

Roy: 10/10 (It's everything I could've ever asked for. I freaking adore him to death)

Ryu: 9/10: (I wouldn't have expected him at all if it wasn't for the sound files. He's a great addition and tons of fun to play as)

All DLC characters are awesome, but Roy's my absolute favorite without a doubt.

9/10 - Let me just begin by saying it's amazing how the Fire Emblem series is getting more recognition in Sm4sh, plus I'm a fan of the series and I warmed up to him when I got the DLC map with him when playing Awakening.
9/10 - I really enjoy his inclusion in the game and, just like how Snake got me interested in the Metal Gear Solid games, Ryu's inclusion got me interested in trying out the Street Fighter games.
8.5/10 - After reading his biography, I eventually warmed up to him soon after.
5/10 - Eh, I really don't care for him mainly because I'm not a Pokemon person anymore.

Mewtwo and Lucas are my personal favorites. I was anticipating Mewtwo but Lucas was a surprise for me--I bought him out of curiosity and I love the contrast between him and Ness--one of the fun things about Semi-clones and derivatives is they're close enough to the base to familiarize with, but they always have a little twist to them to make them unique. Well, most of them *cough Dark Pit cough*. Ryu, I found, is great for stopping Sonic in his tracks with the Focus Attack. And I'm a little better with Roy than I am with Marth.

9/10 Was pretty good, I was shocked he wasn't in the game before the dlc, and he absolutely deserved to make it.
10/10 was a former secondary of mine, and Mother 3 is one of my favorite games ever made, so I enjoyed his return immensely. If you haven't played Mother 3 yet, do yourself a favor and play it .
7.5/10 He's in a odd position, I like how they made him play even more unique than he was in Melee, and I feel he's deserving as a veteran, however, he's a Fire Emblem character, and how can I say this, uh, nicely put, I personally didn't get along very well with some of Roy's support-base, so I naturally became pretty opposed to him even though I thought he deserved to make it, since I felt his fanbase was "undeserving". Now that I'm looking back, I was somewhat in the wrong, since not all of his fanbase was mean, in fact the vast majority of them were really nice, I was just very very bitter and very spiteful towards a fraction of his support base which I really regret but at the same time, I can't get myself to truly let go of some of those emotions. It's weird, I am still angry at a few of his fans for their actions before he got in, but, in general, I'm happy that his fanbase got him back. I also really want to forgive the few that did wrong me, since I feel like the majority of them were either having a bad day or just in a bad scenario, but, I no matter how hard I try, I literally can't forgive. But still, a lot of people that weren't extremely rude to other people, were happy he returned and he was deserving, so in the end I'm happy he made it.
10/10 Not only is he the most iconic fighting game character out there, not only is he a extremely unique newcomer, but he also put a smile on my younger brother's face, that's more than enough for a ten from me.

Roy: 10/10 Was really hoping for him to return, but with Lucina and his irrelevance I figured chances were low that that would happen. He was my main in melee and I like him even more in smash 4 and he's my favorite veteran brought back (thus far )

Lucas: 8/10 I played a bit of him in brawl, but I really like him in Smash 4. I prefer him over Ness and he was a bit of a surprise I wasn't overly excited to see at first, but I bought him and I'm having fun learning how to play as him.

I can see both why some Roy supporters were in a bad mood and the fact that it irked you. It sometimes happened for one reason or the other, though most of the time it was because the detractors would never shut up. In any case, we're sorry if any of us bothered you.

I love all the different views on each character. Really puts Smash DLC in perspective. Also, I like to think of Mewtwo as Lucario's older introverted brother. Instead of hanging out with all the other Pokémon, he just stays inside working on telekinesis and shadow power--it would explain why he lost his fur and why he's albino compared to Lucario. (Yes, I play Pokémon and I know he's a clone of Mew).

Mewtwo - 10/10 - despite his flaws back then, he was my Melee main, so I was glad to see him return.

Lucas - 8/10 - not as familiar with him since I haven't been able to play Mother 3 (tried playing it on an emulator with the translation patch, but I couldn't get into the timing-based combat, especially since I had no idea what they were basing the timing on), but I was glad to see him return. I felt like none of the Brawl veterans should have been cut, to be honest.

Roy - 7/10 - I was not a fan at first; Fire Emblem has a lot of characters in the base game, and I didn't think that we needed a third character who plays almost identically to Marth. However, they seem to have changed him since Melee (never really used him in Melee, so I'm just going by what I see here), and I've warmed up to him since. Of the DLC characters, he's probably the one that I'm the least excited about/interested in, but that's more of a sign of the high quality of the DLC characters.

Ryu - 10/10 - honestly, his inclusion in Smash has gotten me back into fighting games - I had a bunch that I hadn't played, but now, I've got the King of Fighters collection for the Wii, Ultra Street Fighter 4, and Capcom vs. SNK 2, in addition to revisiting older ones. He was translated into Smash Bros. extremely well, and the only flaw that I can see with his portrayal is that Guile's theme wasn't included on his stage. (How could they leave that out? It goes with everything!)

- Initial Hype 8/10: The only reason I was okay with him was because Doctor Mario (Unfortunately) came back. I'm the end, I was mostly just hyped because of the existence of DLC.
- Execution 6/10: He's fun to play. He's just broken in every negative sense of the word. Buffs are needed. Quite a bit.

- Initial Hype 8/10: I have no attachment to Lucas, but he was my 3rd most wanted for DLC because him being cut was bull****. Was glad to see him return.
- Execution 7/10: I'm not the best with the Earthbound kids, but he's still fun. He's not as viable as Ness, so I don't see him as often, which is a shame.

- Initial Hype 0/10: I felt sickened when Roy's files were found. Roy before Wolf? Did Sakurai just throw the Ballot into the trash? Also, why Roy? Marth, girl Marth, fiery Marth. Id feel better about it if Lucina was just a skin, because five FE reps is rediculous.
- Execution: 7/10: Well, he's a semi-clone who's currently my second favorite to play as out of the FE cast. Still don't like 2.5 Marths, but it's better than 3.

- Initial Hype 0/10: I felt literally sick when I read the name Ryu on those files. Capcom doesn't deserve more than one representative. Ugh. He better not have those stupid and complicated Street Fighter inputs.
- Execution 0/10: Oh **** me! Not only does he have SF inputs, but he has light and heavy attacks as well as TWO Final Smashes! Ryu is the worst character to burden the Smash Brothers franchise, and he better not come back; Because if I have to do some stupid ass input to use my blaster as Fox, I will NOT be getting the next installment. I wouldn't mind him if he didn't have his stupid inputs, sensitive light/heavy attacks, TWO Final Smashes, and if Capcom DIDN'T ALREADY HAVE A REP. Ugh, well, now that Capcom has a second rep, now I can show support for Knuckles!

I'll do mine in the same way as AlphaSSB 's.

- Initial Hype 7/10: I didn't really care for Mewtwo to be honest. I was more happy for his fans and to see that Sakurai actually listens.
- Execution 7/10: Let's face facts, he's bad, real bad. He needs a TON of buffs and bigger hit-boxes. He is, however, a hell of a lot of fun to play.
- Initial Hype 10/10: I love earthbound. I loved him in Brawl. He proved more DLC was coming. Wolf is imminent. All the fans that missed him are now overjoyed.
- Execution 9/10: He's super fun to play. The only problem is that Ness already has his specials, so his only defining features are his normals.
- Initial Hype 8/10: "Oh, great another clone... Well, he was my main in Melee, so, well, OK."
- Execution 6/10: "Yep, he's (mostly) a clone. Still, it's cool he's back"
- Initial Hype 0/10 - 5/10: I didn't like the idea of Ryu, at all, at first. I thought he didn't deserve it. Then I looked past all of that and started thinking of the possibilities he could have for his move-set and, as a Street Fighter fan, I knew he'd be complex but fun.
- Execution 9/10: Again, as a Street Fighter fan, I didn't think they could make him work. But they totally did!! All of his inputs, even his light, mid, heavy attacks are all intact. It's to bad that sometimes when I want to do a 3-hit combo I Roundhouse on accident.

To each their own, my friend. Some people aren't fans of certain characters. The good thing is he's DLC, don't like 'em, don't buy 'em.

Well now I know which character not to be if we battle. Are you sure Ryu fans are fine? It seems you got a lot to say about him XD. And look, I have a hard time using Ryu's inputs--half the time I find myself going the opposite direction when I use them but those are there because they are from Street Fighter and that's what Ryu represents. The only thing I'll say is that I do find it strange that Capcom got a second rep
On one hand, he is an iconic character of Mega Man, Pacman, and Mario status and represents the fighting genre. On the other, he’s a second Capcom character who took development time away from other 1st and 3rd parties that people might’ve wanted more. So it’s hard to decide how his inclusion came about. Either way, dang man! XD you don't have to like everybody but jeez

Look, im not a competitive player, so i don't give 2 craps about how bad he is as long as i enjoy playing as him in a mindless level. I love Mewtwo, im 100% biased towards him.
I could sacrifice half of the Smash 4 newcomers just for him really. Heck, i would sacrifice K.ROOL AND RIDLEY just for him.

:I like Ryu for 2 reasons.
1-His implementation. I LOVE characters who primarly take their movesets from their source material. Creative liberties be damned.
That's the reason why i love Mega Man and Mr. Game & Watch so much.

2-The fact that he is a second Capcom character brings me hope that someday, maybe, i will witness Simon Belmont and Snake joining Smash. I always found the "one character per company" rule absolutely stupid and im happy to see that fan-made "rule" dead.

Because of this, i give him a 8/10. Not my 3rd-party choice, but still a good one.

Roy....where do i begin.

First, i don't care about Marth and Lucina. I always knew that Roy was going to be AT LEAST a little different from them, and he indeed is in a really good way. I don't care about any other FE characters outside of Roy, Ike and maybe Robin. I can't explain my attachment to Roy with my words, but i will say that there are 2 very special people that made me grew up to like him.

Despite using him a lot in Brawl, i think Lucas is my least favoirte of the 4 so far.
Don't get me wrong, i love Lucas. He is my favorite Mother character, but i don't have the same attachment to him as i do with Mewtwo nor i enjoy his excecution as much as Roy and Ryu in this game.

Overall, i like the current DLC line-up. Is it perfect? No. But is it bad? Not in the slightest. At least in my eyes.

- Hype 8,5/10: Liked Mewtwo a lot, but his melee model was so... ugly. Also he meant more DLC.
- Execution 6,5/10: So many good things, ruined by janky hitboxes. He feels a little rushed, maybe they worked under time preassure. But this can be fixed via patch and he is so FUN to play.

- Hype 10/10: The trailer: **** my pants and teared up a little. Loved the little story (trailer) ad throwback to Sbspace. Felt like he deserved it!
- Execution 9/10: Solid. Didn´t played him much around Brawl, but now I do! All the right tools in the right spaces!

- Hype 6,5/10: I was salty at first. Really. But seeing the trailerand nostalgia got me, so it was okay with this.
- Execution 8,5/10: Honestly, I LOVE his rework. Not the biggest fan of FE, but DAMN, Sakurai did some serious work on him!

- Hype 7/10: Felt a little out of place at first, but after seeing the trailer I warmed me up to the idea. Casual Street fighter player, but I could have done without him. but great for marketing.
- Execution 9,5/10: GREAT combos, unique and the biggest act of fanserviece I have seen on a single character. Props to Sakurai!

- Hype ?/10: I´m sorry, I had to do it...
- Execution 10/10: I don´t care , as long as he get´s in...

So how would you guys rate the DLC characters so far? Were you guys excited for Mewtwo when he was revealed? Do you think he should've been in the base game given his demand? Is Ryu an oddball that you warmed up to? Thoughts.

10/10: Mewtwo should have been in the base game. I also find him fun to play so I like Mewtwo (I don't play him competitively)

9/10: I thought Lucas should've been in the main game to begin with. I don't play him a lot though but he's still fun.

7/10: I was pretty upset that Roy was getting in after those leaks but I grew to like him after he's been somewhat semi cloned. He's also fun to play.

4/10: Meh inclusion. He's an icon in fighting games, cool cool. I never thought he should've been added since now Capcom has 2 and it kind of upsets the balance we had (not saying that we should only have one per company, just weird that Capcom gets two and Namco and Sega don't). He also has these weird control inputs which I don't like (you have to put in the input for the stronger Tatsumaki Senpyaku for him to actually say it. What the heck!). I wouldn't miss him if he was cut next game to be honest. I still sorta like playing him I guess.

I wasn't screaming my heart out about it, lol. I was posting my reaction to Ryu, in a sense. Now, I just have a bitterness towards him.

My reaction to Ryu was salty, yes. Now, I just have a bitterness towards him. And you're asking me if the salt is necessary? Remember the Palutena conversation? Not trying to call you out, my friend, but I'm just gonna put that out there. As for the Shulk Monado-Demon thing, it's just a little joke towards him. I don't hate Shulk, and I think he's a good addition to the roster. I just hate fighting against him.

Well now I know which character not to be if we battle. Are you sure Ryu fans are fine? It seems you got a lot to say about him XD. And look, I have a hard time using Ryu's inputs--half the time I find myself going the opposite direction when I use them but those are there because they are from Street Fighter and that's what Ryu represents. On one hand, he is an iconic character of Mega Man, Pacman, and Mario status and represents the fighting genre. On the other, he’s a second Capcom character who took development time away from other 1st and 3rd parties that people might’ve wanted more. So it’s hard to decide how his inclusion came about. Either way, dang man! XD you don't have to like everybody but jeez

Yeah, my initial reaction was quite bad, haha. Now, I'm just bitter towards him. I still bought him because I'm a ravenous Wolf see what I did there? for DLC. I would be more okay with him if he didn't get the special treatment and if Capcom didn't already have Mega Man. Anways, I'm fine with Ryu fans and mains. Mostly because I know how to fight him

Oh boy, rating time. Initial: first off, screw numbering, I'ma just give my opinion without a scale. I liked the fact that Mewtwo was coming back, I enjoyed him in Melee, he's iconic to Pokemon and he meant more dlc.
Execution: At first, I didn't care for him. He played like Melee minus the Melee engine stuff. He was fun but obviously bad and I moved on. However, as the months went on and I kept trying more and more characters, psychic cat ended up becoming my fourth best. Yeah he's light and tall and his power is a bit underwhelming for someone with those flaws but he's a lot of fun. Once you learn how to be slippery with him he's a lot of fun and can actually be hard to hit. Easily my favourite dlc so far.

Initial: I really didn't care. I never used him in Brawl and I don't really care for Mother 3.

Execution: He's what I expected him to be minus the Brawl tech. I can easily say he's a pain in the *** to fight on FG since his PK Fire isn't as easy to deal with as Ness' but on the other hand, the Lucas' on there don't spam as much and he has weaker throws and a weaker up b.

Initial: Found it kinda odd that he was coming back especially since we already had Lucina but I enjoyed him in Melee so I was okay with it.

Execution: He's fun and he's my go-to character when I don't wanna give a ****. Just go smash happy and ya win, same as Mac...least against bad people.

Now before I go on to Ryu, I'll mention right now: I'm fine with Lucas and Roy being in Sm4sh but **** the decision to put them in before Wolf. My opinion might be different if we had legal access to their games so the love for them could be more justified but the fact that their entire fanbase is made up of people from one country legally and the rest are all people that had to translate and release the game through a rom is dumb. And I don't wanna hear anything about how difficult it would be for Nintendo to do it themselves when we have Earthbound Zero on the Wii U eshop which is Mother 1 translated. The inclusion of these two over Wolf tells me that Japan is the most important audience to please when Smash is big everywhere. And yes, I know people outside of Japan love these two from watching or playing their games and from Smash but Wolf has been around legally for the rest of the world to love and he's not in yet and has that same Smash love regardless of Roy's exclusion from Brawl. I only bring up the legality bit because if Nintendo had their way, no one outside of Japan would have any idea what Roy or Lucas' games are like.

Rant over, now onto Ryu
Initial: I honestly didn't care. Never played Street Fighter, found his inclusion odd since we already had Megaman but I didn't despise the idea.

Execution: His SF inputs are too much for me to handle, namely the red Hadoken and I think Focus Attack shouldn't have armor in the air cuz with him getting armor, being too high to grab and being able to cancel it, there are a good number of characters that are incapable of punishing his landings at all. Otherwise, he's alright. Pretty sure the recent patch made him a lot safer on shields though which could be a huge pain in the ***.

Overall thoughts/ TL;DR
Love him
Love the latter but **** them getting in over Wolf. Nothing against them or their fans but Wolf deserved in either at the same time or before them.
Don't give a damn for him.
