Can you play PM online?

Yes you can, as long as you've installed the wifi-safe version, and you have friend codes of people to play with (as With Anyone doesn't work with PM).

You'll also need Wiimmfi, since the servers for Brawl have long since been shut down.

That's included in the wifi-safe codeset by default, so you don't need to do anything more than installing the wifi-safe version.
