Can Lucas' PSI MAGNET function like Fox's J-shine?

I've played the game a ton at a friend's house, and can't believe I didn't test this. Does pulling out PSI magnet in the air cause your descent to slow? And, if it does, does pulling it out multiple times slow your falling speed exponentially?

Old news but yes. Its good for stalling against certain characters.
Not to mention against Ness, Lucas and Zelda, they might do their PKT/Djinn fire on you.
