For those of you who are confused, your data folder needs to look exactly like the disc layout. It will also be the same as your SD card layout.

thanks for this pic. i couldn't figure out how the data should be set up.

@mariorocks64: try pm'ing someone around here about that. i think that's considered off topic. maybe markehmus could help you.
and don't ask me about it plz. i don't really know anything about this kinda stuff.

I can't get to any characters.
I don't know how to use the data folder. Google doesn't help me.
Do I insert my brawl disc into the computer?
I can't put m brawl data into the SD card.
How am I suppose to put any of my Brawl data in the computer to start brawlscape?
Google did nothing for me. nothing! I really need help.
here i am shocked of all the other 'how to' questions:
(cant imagine how Kyral feels)

you need 1 of 4 specific type drives that can read wii games(they dont burn)
* LG-8164b <--i bought two for $40 but that was years ago...good luck finding drives now
* LG-8163b
* LG-8162b
* LG-8161b
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/471073
if you dont have this drive you can use a torrent tracker to download the (SSBB)games you own since you cant back up your own

some way of loading apps on wii is nessessary,
like HBC,bannerbomb, indiana pwns(stacksmash is very tricky to use to load brawl hacks) so you can load the .gct with gecko
you would need to delete the hacked save with PC immediatly after loading gecko, and then load game with codes..but i cant guarantee it will work, best bet install HBC from here since it now works with system menu 4.2 google bannerbomb if your unsure how to install
http://bootmii.org/download/
-optional: i think its smart to use bootmii to backup nand to 'restoremii' if anything goes wrong while you screw around with hacking wii stuff

meowmix has this pg of crap to get you started
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=f363f2b020d739bfd9d5c56d04dfa8b0b0c795afb1345cbf5621d66e282a0ee8
Kryals pic in the comment above this is more then enough explaination on how to set up you folders on pc

here is a link to what should be on your sd setup
(no files from the brawl disk just filefolders and reedmii.txt to show you whats what and where it goes)i added the newest brawl+ fit'character'.pac's to the fighter folder for an idea
and each folder has a little readmii on where stuff goes,++there is the Phantom Wings tutorial in the package so its real easy for noobs
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?yhzjynkzroz

you need to use the code in the code folder loaded by gecko to get the textures working...
(Includes texture stuff, camera hack, and longer replays)
mainly its the File Patch Code v3.5.1: [Phantom Wings]

Phantom wings has a good tutorial for how to set up your card files
and kyral's pic (above) shows a dumped SSBB and the pc setup
Phantom Wings said:

Errors can mean lots of things. Send me the message or a screenshot.

Also make sure that your folders are in-tact and in the right spots.

also my file setup on the desktop i have ssbb data backup which is all of the folders from the iso in it. Then i have the pf folder where i save everything to. I'm also going to send you a copy of the error text.

If textures are empty it means your data locations are bad. Also, if you right-click on a texture when it's blank, you'll get that error.

Check your data locations and make sure you have a common5.pac file in the system folder. Also, where are your data locations?

hey i was wondering if for your next version could you change the error message so that instead of throwing an exception when you try to access a file that you dont yet have (the ssbb data files) instead of one you do have in your SD card it gives you an error like
"Unable to complete action due to missing original data textures" or anything like that to make it more clear. it might prevent people from posting questions about hey why isnt this working, i know it confused me for a while until i read 10 pages of posts and actually figured out whats going on.

renamed common5.pac ??
does your program still point to where you keep the data ...on cdrive or desktop?

i dont bother going staright to sd. i use a folder as my sd and rename the common5_en.pac .
(i have other folders in these as well but i just show the pertaining info to you post)

see my project folder set up:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\brawlscape1\system\common5.pac
and my data folder is...
J:\ssbb backup of my dump\SuperSmashBrothersBrawl_TextureHacked\test mods here\system\common5.pac

so i bet you need to rename your file... files with the _en need changeing
common3.pac and common5.pac i change anyway

i hope thats your fix!

Your data folder needs to contain a system folder. Inside the system folder, put common5 and common3. Doesn't matter how it's named with or without the _en. Your data/project folder is just a collection of folders.

If you extract the game disc directly, your computer will mimic this and you don't need to do anything else. I've put this in the readme: extract game files from disc to a folder on your hard drive, point BrawlScape to this folder. Done.

I did have this, but it wasn't very smart at the time. It errored for EVERY texture. I also thought that specifying that you need the extracted disc files was enough. Eventually you will need most of these files.

When I get to the next version I'll have better error reporting.

Okay, quick update. I got the textures to map to the model, and it looks pretty good. I'm having some difficulty with the vertices though, and Pharrox has been kind enough to help me out with this. So, plans for next update:

Texture editing based on model. This will be helpful for stages, as you can pick from a list of models and it will show you what textures that model uses.

Error reporting. I know! It's been bad, and I hope to make up for it. Error reporting is done, and the program will tell you what file(s) are missing.

It's a possibility, but I'd rather not think that far ahead at this point. I'll just be glad to get this part finished!

Hey Kryal, I know this isn't the smash box thread, but I can't find it. I wanted to ask if you could make a brres replacer for it. Because you gave the option to replace textures, but not brres. However I can extract them. So, do you think you could add that option? I have an idea I would like to test.

Yes, eventually SmashBox will have raw export/replace for most nodes. I haven't gotten around to updating it in a while so...

Yes, you can see the textures on the model before/after it's been replaced.

nice , so i think i get it

...let me clarify my head a bit, it seems your doing alot with this and i realy wanna clearly understand.

1.)the model in the middle will be more then just the lines making up the character.
when you click a character,
the texure your character has will show covering the model, as well,
so you get a better 3D idea of what your created texture will look like.

2.)if you delete the textures and use a transparent.png to replace the images of textures, the model colors will show through ...then you will be able to tell what the models colors are.

3.)''It's a possibility, but I'd rather not think that far ahead at this point''
means: 1 day ...you may... have the model colors changable , as well.

again thanx for your patient manner in dealing with me

We may have found a bug that is causing resource files to rebuild improperly on some systems. This is something that I myself am not experiencing, but SuperJMN is helping me out a bit. Hang in there while we do some more testing. You may just happen to be one of the lucky few. :(

In the meantime, update!

Hey, I've been trying to get a CSP for MetaKnight to work, and I've followed all of the steps. I made sure it was the correct size, had a transparent background, and saved it as a PNG. BrawlScape compresses it just fine, and it shows up on the CSS. I can select the CSP and then play a brawl. After the brawl. when the results screen normally comes up, the game freezes. I don't think I'm using too many colors, I only have 225.

So, why is the CSP working fine until the results screen? The PNG has a file size of only 6.18 KB, I just don't get it.

Did you change any stock portraits? The results screen is technically a stage that loads at the end of a fight. BScape will save the stock portraits to the results stage, if you replaced any that is.

No, I didn't change any. I have the ones from Youko's texture pack, but they worked perfectly fine before I changed the CSP for MetaKnight.

Edit: Here is my PNG and common5.pac.

MattMan, I've checked out your file and I'm not getting any freezing. All the CSPs from your file are working. However, I'm inclined to think it may be the costume that goes along with the CSP. Have you tried removing either the common5 or FitMetaknight file from your SD card to see which one causes the freezing?

Question: which files are necessary and are going to be necessary in the next version

Basically it depends on what you want to do. If you're doing just basic stuff you can get by with system\common5, system\common3 and the fighter folder. Eventually you will want the following folders: fighter, info, menu, stage, system.
