I haven't seen anything that great this year, mostly comedies that are only funny when you're high. Zach and Miri make a porno, Pineapple Express. Tropic Thunder. Watched Zoolander for the first time, loved it. *hides*

I enjoyed Star Trek but that's about it unless there's something I'm forgetting.

I was about to say The Wrestler, but realized that was a 2008 film (didn't pay attention to the oscars this year). I'm interested to see Public Enemies as it looks great (I fancy gangster films), but other than that, I haven't seen anything worthy of nabbing "best film of the year". Plus, we're only halfway through the year. Still a lot to see.

I don't think I've really liked anything this year. One thing's for sure though, Year One was the worst.

It says it all in the title really. Whats the best movie you've seen this year ?
Well, you asking me what movie I think is the best I've seen this year so this means there is no year limit, which I would have to say between The Wrestler, Gran Torino, Watchmen and Fight Club.

Really? I found it as one of the best films I've seen but hey, we all have our choice of movies.

Fair enough. I was so looking forward to it though.

Begin rant:

Imagine you, the viewer, are a fan of a work. A graphic novel, to be exact. Excited by a teaser trailer, you seek out and forage your way through an oeuvre, becoming entangled with and fascinated by the entire world within those panels. Watchmen, in print, is amazing. Self-important, yes, but altogether original and beautifully drawn. My opinion stands on that. The movie, however, is a three-hour, poorly realized, masturbatory pseudo-epic that had me leaving the theatre with a sour aftertaste.

I’d tear it to shreds but I don’t know where to start. I was so looking forward to it, and the previews looked mind-boggling. It wasn’t. Point in case, the soundtrack. Zack Snyder, what the hell were you thinking? Picture this: CG shots of the supervillain’s lair from above, glorious in its frozen wasteland, and blasting in behind it is ‘All Along the Watchtower.’ No, that’s not doing it justice. That’s not even half-bad. The gratuitous sex scene set to ‘Hallelujah,’ where, yes, when she comes, fire shoots out of a spaceship. God. The burial scene with ‘Sound of Silence’ for accompaniment. The totally unnecessary use of ‘99 Red Balloons.’ I just… it sticks out more than anything else. Do you get opera? OF COURSE YOU DO. It wouldn’t be epic without opera, right? Jesus.

More than that, for me, was the makeup. Awful. They’ve got Richard Nixon as a character and it’s some dolt in criminally fake prosthetics. A caricature. When the superheroines age, it’s astounding how much they look like 25-year-olds with ‘wrinkles.’ Perhaps I was wrong to be so harsh on Benjamin Button. I only thought perhaps twice during those three hours that the makeup was off. In Watchmen, I cringed. I could see the lines on wig caps.

Silk Spectre was bad, Dr. Manhattan was worse, Ozymandias was nauseating. Only Rorschach impressed me; he’s a good actor in a bad movie.

End rant.

tl;dr?

Disappointing.

Actually, I never read the novels so when I was going to go see it, I was worried about that I would have needed to have read the novels in order to understand the story but I didn't. You don't need to be a fan of the graphic novel, I wasn't, my friends weren't either. We all enjoyed the movie.
The soundtrack reflected the times since they took place in the the 80's although most of the songs did do their part in "capturing" the scene and this is just me but I really did enjoy the All Around the Watchtower playing as they were going to Ozymandias's lair.
To be honest, I wasn't really paying attention to the actor's faces to see the criminally fake prosthetics.
Most of the characters were O.K but I will agree that Rorschach was the best actor in the movie.

I found the movie awesome. Oh and if you wanted to rant about this movie, just go rant to movie reviewers because really, I don't care. Go here to rant about the movie.

Understandable. I was just saying that I was a huge fan of the graphic novel, so I was ridiculously excited to see it. Perhaps I set myself up for a fall.

Again, understandable. It just didn't quite capture anything for me. It didn't do it justice, in my opinion.

Fair enough. I'm picky about stuff like that.

Really? I was considering watching this, seemed like the type of movie to see when you're feeling high and stupid.
I was won over by the quote "All my brain blood was in my boner" yea, I'm easily amused.:)

Yes, Watchmen looked horrible, mates confirmed that it had a abysmal plot and ending.

Hmm, I'm probably going to have to go with UP and Star Trek. Though I would very much like to see Public Enemies.

I don't know, 2009 isn't really doing it for me. I haven't seen HP or Transformers 2 yet. Although, I hear the new Transformers is either love or hate.

And considering you're not a lesbian Transformers 2 pretty much loses all appeal.

Thanks, Mic. That's good to know.

By quoting a friend of a friend, Transformers 2 is basically "two point five hours of bad tans and worse jokes, sprinkled with circling camera effects."

She says. I wouldn't know.

Public Enemies is currently my number one pick. Save for some gross historical inaccuracies the movie was **** near perfect. I loved the cinematography.

I watched watchmen like a few nights ago

I haven't read any of the novels or anything

And have had bad reviews given to me by quite a few people

most of which exaggerated Dr Manhattans tool

The plot seemed alright to me

I like Dr Manhattan, how he saw the world/it's people, although I would have preferred him to have come to the same conclusion in a different way rather than having to be convinced by some promiscuous 20 something who doesn't seem to know what she wants ;|, her argument wasn't very convincing any way >.>, I dun see the relevance of who her father turns out to be...it's not a miracle that she was born, maybe that she as the individual was born yea, but someone was getting born out of the million/billion of possible chances

Rorschach could have toned it down with his descriptions, but he was alright

Smartest guy...I forget his name, but I liked him too, and liked what he did

The guy the Jupiter girl ends up getting with...idk...anyone who didn't understand that the ends justified the means I didn't like, excluding Rorshach

I think I might have to kill you if you're talking about Harry Potter.......
That movie was awful especially if you read the book. It didnt follow it at all, all they was dwell over the fact that Hermione likes Ron, Ron doesnt realize it, and Harry is Dumbledore's slave. I cant even talk about it anymore.....it turned into a love drama. No epic battle, not enough Pensieve, not dramatic at points where it needed to be, dwelled on very unimportant things, while skipping over important ones, no explaination of Horcruxes to a good degree.....I could go on.

ANYWAY :chuckle:

Transformers was too long and very repetitive.
I think Angels and Demons was my favorite, a lot like National Treasue with a religious twist. Im not satisfied with the movies this year though....

To me Transformers 2 was a great movie, I would watch it again and again
I went to see it with a bunch of my friends, and we all liked it to, girls and guys alike.
The plot was good and it had funny and stupid funny part keeping you laughing and on the edge of your seat at the same time.
I give it a 20/10! (above and beyond greatness)

Up and The Hangover are my picks. Star Trek was good and Transformers 2 was really fun when I was with friends and not paying much attention, but upon a second watch i hated it. I can't wait for Where the Wild Things Are and District 9.

Your kidding right?
The only reason that movie should be watched is to see giant robots fighting. I mean seriously I saw the green screen 3 times, there was a pigeon, you could see Alamogordo (the city next to white sands, which is where some scenes were shot). I am a huge transformers fan and I was still disappointed with this movie, I enjoyed it, but it was very disappointing.

My favorite movies his year, would be Watchmen, Up, Star Trek, The Soloist, Coraline, Taking of Pelham 123 and Public Enemies. I think Where the wild things are, Sherlock Holmes, and 9 will be some of my other favorites.

soooo.... you didnt like it:confused::cry:?? lol

well i did read the book(i can DEFINATLY say the book was way bettr! never siad it wasent) but the movie was great for me too!
how is harry dumbledores slave:confused:? did i miss something about that? lol
they didnt do ALL the pesieves but they did the important ones
they explained the horcruxes to the point that people that dont read the book can understand what theyr uses are.
i think they covered most of what they needed to
its not like they could put everything in obviously.
although i will say that there were things i wasent happy with but still a solid movie

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is great movie, I wouldn't call it the best movie of the year, but it should be on the list of the top ten best of this year. The Hangover is good. Transformers 2 is super underrated on Rotten Tomato, but the movie still has a great amounts of flaws in it though. Still say the best movies of this year is Up and Star Track.

Transformers 2 was absolutely awful, but that wasn't surprising considering how bad the first one was.

My vote probably goes to Star Trek or Watchmen. I feel like the Hangover is part of some enormous inside joke that I'm not privy to, because I didn't find it the least bit funny (I can safely say I didn't laugh once the entire 2 hours). Bruno killed that movie in terms of humor.

Maybe I'm just not dumb enough to get the Hangover.
