Introduction:
We've been itching to get back to hosting tournaments here in the area, so we're very excited to announce a Smash 4 event right in the heart of DC! We got a bar venue and are aiming for a similar atmosphere to the revered Smash @ Clarendon series. As far as I know this is DC's first real Smash 4 tournament, so it'd be awesome to get a good turnout for this. Metro accessible too!

Location:
The Laughing Man Tavern
1306 G St NW
Washington, DC 20005
(13th and G NW)

This just 2 blocks from Metro Center station, and 6 blocks from Gallery Place/Chinatown. So, this is metro accessible by literally EVERY metro line in DC! If you are driving in, we recommend parking at the metro and taking the metro in, or parking at a nearby parking garage. There are plenty of parking garages around this area.

Games:
Smash for Wii U will be the featured game at this event, but other games (including non-Smash games) are certainly welcome. If you'd like to play another game here just bring a setup for it and you're good to go.

Food/Drinks:
This is a bar venue and there will be food/drinks available on-site! Food from outside restaurants will not be allowed in the venue.NO UNDERAGE DRINKING. People under 21 are allowed in the venue but there will be very strict and harsh punishments for any participants who break this rule, including expulsion from the event and all future events. Do not risk us losing this great venue.

Schedule:
11:30 am - Setup / venue opens
1 pm - Sign-ups for Wii U singles ends. Tournament begins.
7 pm - Tournament ends.
8 pm - Event ends. People are welcome to stay and hang out at The Laughing Man Tavern.

Setups:
D.C. eSports is providing 2 full setups and 6 extra monitors. We understand that this location may not be very convenient to bring setups to, but we would greatly appreciate any effort whatsoever to bring monitors and Wii Us.
The first 6 setups brought by attendees receive a $3 venue refund.

Controller Rentals:
While we strongly encourage BYOC, we will be renting official Nintendo brand controllers (while supplies last) to those of you who do not bring one. You must bring an ID to rent a controller. This is in anticipation of many random people stopping by due to the busy downtown location of The Laughing Man Tavern. We are hoping to see many new faces stop by for some Smash.

Prices:
Venue fee - $5 (Part of the venue fee will be going towards the Extra Life Chapter in D.C. to help support the Children's National Medical Center)
Controller Rental - $5 for the day
Entry Fee - $5
We accept credit card for all transactions (add 3% fee).

Stream/Recording:
Recording Setup:
Unfortunately due to venue limitations, the internet isn't sufficient to sustain a live stream of this event. We will, however, be recording as many matches as we can. These recorded matches will be uploaded to YouTube following the event at http://www.youtube.com/DCeSportsLANs.

Ruleset:
[collapse="Ruleset"]
Tournament Format:
- Double-elimination bracket
- Each match will be played in a Best of 3 format except for Winners Finals, Losers Finals, and Grand Finals, which will be played in a Best of 5 format.

Gameplay:
- 2 stocks, 5 minutes
- Items are set to "off" and "none"
- Customs are ON. Following the EVO ruleset, we will be using custom pre-sets for each character.
- You cannot re-select a stage you have won on as a counterpick.
- Controller ports will be decided by players. If there is a conflict, a game of RPS should settle the dispute.
- You can switch controller ports on your counterpick only.
- Any controller issues found mid-game is your own responsibility. If you need to reset, your opponent will have to agree to a reset as doing so will require you to pause the match.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CONTROLS ARE CORRECT BEFORE BEGINNING A MATCH.
- Stalling is banned.
- If the game freezes (intentionally or unintentionally) due to the actions of a character, that player loses that game. This is a very rare occurrence, and you are expected to know the boundaries of your character.
- If a player pauses in the middle of a game (unless by request of a TO), that player must lose his/her current stock.
- A match ending in simultaneous death does not go to the initiator. If the result is sudden death from this, use the normal tiebreaking rules (below) to determine the winner. Otherwise use who the game declared the winner.
- If the timer runs out, the winner is determined first by stock, then by percentage. If there is a tie in both stock and percentage, then follow the tie-breaking procedures outlined below.
- Any and all infinites must end at 300%, otherwise it becomes stalling. All infinites are entirely legal otherwise.
- BYOC (Bring your own controller).
- Coaching mid-match is banned.

Match Procedure:
1. Both players select a character (blind pick can be requested)
2. From the “Starters” stage list, Player A strikes 1 stage, Player B strikes 2 stages, Player A strikes 1 stage, resulting in the stage to be played for Game 1.
3. Game 1 is played.
4. Winning player bans 1 stage from the Starters and Counterpick stage list.
5. Losing player picks the next stage to be played on.
6. Winning player chooses character (does not have to stay the same character).
7. Losing player chooses character.
8. Next game is played.
9. Repeat steps 4-8 if the game goes to game 3.

Tie-breaking Procedure:
1. In the event of a tie game (stock and percentages are equal when the clock runs out, or a simultaneous K.O happens that is not resolved by the game), a 1 stock, 3 minute game will be played.
2. If this match results in another tie, a 1 stock, no time limit game will be played to determine the winner.

Some important announcements/updates today!

1.) Pre-registration is now live on the new Smash.gg platform! If you are planning on coming, please go ahead and register online! This will save both you and us time at the event and will give a better idea of the turnout. Register here!

2.) Please bring setups!!! This event is looking to be pretty large, and we can only provide so many. As it mentions in the event description, we are offering a $3 refund to 6 people who have just their Wii U setups used during the tournament (we have 6 extra gaming monitors).

In addition to those 6, we are going to be able to waive the complete venue fee for 4 people who bring a FULL setup (Wii U, Game, Adapter AND Monitor) that is used during the tournament. The more setups we have, the better and faster the tournament will be able to run!

(Note that if you pre-register online, you will get whatever venue fee refund back in cash at the event.)

3.) Mewtwo will be banned for this event. The main reason is that he will be released on a limited basis on April 15th, and won't be widely released until April 28th. 3 days after a limited release isn't enough time for us to be comfortable with letting him rock.

So far we've got 11 people pre-registered! Pre-registration will close on Friday night, but you can still sign up at the door for the same price. If you know you're coming, please pre-register though to save yourself and us some time on Saturday!
