Apex is back and looking to be the hardest Melee tournament in history with top players from around the world all coming and competing at this incredible event! Who will be the last man standing as the Melee world champion!?

This thread is run by the players at home, for the players at home, to keep everyone updated and answer any questions about the tournament as it happens live! If you find out anything about the tournament, share here, but let us know if you aren't sure too so we can keep this place with correct information!

Also, this thread is for Melee and Melee only, while Brawl players can take over the official tournament thread like usual. It's fine if you're both a fan/player of Melee and Brawl, but this thread is strictly for just Melee, so take Brawl news elsewhere please.

Just a note though that I'll be busy with University on the 6th, so I won't be able to update this post until sometime between crews and R2 Pools, but once I'm back, I will.

Saturday is a freeplay day while Brawl takes place, so we may be able to gather all information and get to see some awesome friendly matches and money matches.

Other notes:
Javi and Javi1589 are two different players. The player from Mexico is Javi.
Duck and Duckpimp are two different players. The Samus player is Duck.
Linguini is not attending (confirmed?).
Isai is attending, but only entering Doubles (with VANS) and Smash 64.
V3ctorman claims he will be going all Roy in tournament.
R1 Pools are top 2 move to R2. Among the 128 players in Round 2, there will be 32 pools of 4, where the top 2 move to bracket. Expect death Pools and upsets!
Doubles is straight to Bracket and not Pools.
Mew2King will not ever be playing Melee and Brawl simultaneously during Apex 2012. No Brawl johns.

What will Hungrybox have in store for Armada?
Brinstar and Rainbow Cruise are banned, and Kongo Jungle 64 is legal for Doubles only.
Wobbling is banned.
This is the second largest Melee tournament in history, behind only about 20 players to Pound 4.
Ice beat Hax in a MM at OTG's smashfest. He appears to be much better than Amsah in Sheik vs Falcon.
King Funk is terrible at Melee.
Dashizwiz is attending!
TheLake is attending, but under some alias (?)

So I've realized something Thelake isn't going? Which is wierd since PA is bringing down a **** load of people to Apex, so that's kinda wierd, and disappointing. Secondly half the people on the notable players list who didn't attend like ken, remen, mach dash, darkrain, and silentspectre(at least until Genesis 3) are all pretty much retired from this game and had no interest in attending apex(which makes me sad). Furthermore since when is king funk a top player. Also pp won't be able to get his revenge on fly amanita(wish he would travel more cause I think he is the best ICs) and taj, who both beat pp at Genesis 2(sick johns). Another thing, I wish Overtriforce had waited to come to Apex instead of spending money on RoM 4. Lastly lol Jonas, some shots fired at Calle W much, and how everyone in America overhypes him.(Including myself)

Ah good looks, i will be checking that out, thanks.

Also disappointed at the lack of WV being in notable players not attending. We will make our mark soon, i promise! =D

And Overtriforce said he was planning on coming to Apex, i hope he didn't decide against it because of his poor RoM 4 performance, i'm sure he coulda done much better this time :(

King Funk gonna tap. Calle W is old hat, prob wouldn't have made it out of pools in any case.

Also, this just in (good thing to add to the OP!) Kage thinks shield dropping is not necessary!! Funny coming from someone playing a slow *** character like ganon apparently doesn't wanna speed it up any. Can't wait til it gets a bit more widespread and more opportunities arise (otherwise WV will have to take it upon themselves!)

I mentioned that too on the first page…I’ve speculated that Teh Icy has a personal disliking against sexy long hair, or dudes who can chill 829 hours a day. Or he just generally has something against people who are going to come first in teams...
