I've been trying to get into competitive melee, but I'm so used to Sm4sh's way of handling inputs and I never feel like I'm in complete control of my character. Strangely I don't have this problem when I emulate it(granted with a PlayStation 3 DS3). Could anyone tell me why this is and how to adjust?

It's probably cause of the slight input lag you get. Just play a lot of CRT Melee and you'll be fine.

dude just sit down and practice tech for a while. find your character and get a good feel of him/her and then you'll find yourself comfortable in time

I've been there. As mentioned previously in the thread, get a CRT. It helps. And it really comes down to sitting down with your character and exploring their options as well as learning the basics (wavedash, dash dance, SHFFL etc.)

Sm4sh sparked my interest in smash once again, so I've been through the same. I dunno, it just kinda came to me after a while. Not much else to do but just play. Playing on a CRT, as forementioned, should also help since they offer the lowest amount of input delay.

Thanks for the info. I actually found that the best way(for me) was just to play project M for a long while and then when I went to Melee the only thing throwing me off is the dumb detection being changed in later games for dashing.
