After extensive research and analysis of each of the character’s moves, options, strengths, and weaknesses. Me and a Discord member called Tarkice have finally figured out the optimal style of play for each of the characters in this matchup.

Kirby is arguably the stronger character in this matchup, allowing for extremely effective punishes that combat nearly all of Roy’s options, we found that Kirby’s strongest style of play in the matchup is very campy, and makes use of neutral-B to get most of his kills and to beat out Roy’s relatively long, disjointed sword hitboxes. Typically this is executed in a very simple way, such as forcing the Roy to approach by edge-camping with neutral-B in use. Shown here:

As you can tell by this gif, Kirby’s neutral-B is extremely effective against Roy. But Roy isn’t completely helpless, he has options that can beat out his neutral B.

The main option that Roy has is his up-B, which can easily be used after jumping behind the Kirby, and executing it during the end lag of Kirby’s neutral-B. Shown here:

However, there is a way to beat out this option, if kirby reads the jump and ends the neutral-B, then rolls just before the Roy punishes, Kirby will then be given a great opportunity to attack Roy with essentially any move, typically a dash attack (due to its hitbox staying out for a long time) or even a second neutral-B. But there is still a way for Roy to succeed, with a few mindgames, Kirby will be completely thrown off, and open to an attack. If Roy fakes the jump and fast falls toward Kirby’s location, the Kirby will try and roll, thinking that Roy is going for an up-B. But right after the roll, Roy can throw out a powerful forward-Smash, giving him the upper hand. Shown here:

Now that we’ve covered most of the useful techs on stages like FD, we’re going to move on to platforms.

Platforms change the way this strategy can be used, Roy can use these platforms to his advantage and eliminate the Kirby’s camping all together. This can be done by dropping down through the platform, and down-airing Kirby. Shown here:

But what if the Kirby decided to take the battle to the platforms, and abuse the crouch canceling that Roy’s aerials are susceptible to? Well, Roy could easily perform reverse Up-B on the Kirby to eliminate him in one hit, usually killing at all percents when at the height of the top platform. Shown here:

But here’s where the interesting bit is, Tarkice and FoxE have found an entirely new glitch unique to Kirby. Kirby rolling to the ledge and then sucking in Roy will give him an interesting position, where Roy cannot mash out, and if Roy doesn’t mash out, he will be sent through the bottom of the stage in a pull-through glitch style fashion. So far, this is all we have on the matchup, but we are very happy to share this info with you guys who like playing Kirby and Roy together (especially the battlefield glitch =]), as it's a very fun and interesting matchup. We may update this later with more matchup info, but for now, this is all we have. Thanks for reading.
