I think it was a stylistic choice, not a technical one. In FF7, when the characters attack, Tifa actually runs up and punches her enemies. I think Aerith jumps from her position and whacks them with her staff.
Neither Tifa nor Aerith wield a massive sword, hence why I said it was likely a mixture of style and technical limitations. They at least move realistically compared to Cloud, who looks absolutely silly as all hell when he runs.
I found it weird how Cloud glides in Smash (and I honestly thought it was a reference to the end of the game) because he doesn't really glide in FF7's battle screen. He just charges at his opponent and strikes and I've seen his legs move.

Some people supposedly think the gliding animation is a nod to how he moves in the Dissidia games, in which he glides mostly rather than walks or runs. Wouldn't surprise me if that's correct.

Stumbled upon this beautiful tune. The main theme often gets overlooked. It gets me emotional and proud to be a Final Fantasy fan every time. It even plays in the credits of Final Fantasy VII and its movie as well.
One thing I've noticed while playing FF7 is that the music is so good. I don't know if it's a thing with the other FF games, but I'm assuming it is.
On another note, I just received VI from my brother as a belated Christmas gift. I'm so ready to play it and I've heard so much about the plot and Kefka.
I was actually wondering about this last night. How many of Cloud's moves are actually canon? I've seen some people call his fair Braver, and I don't know what that is cuz I haven't played FF7, but I thought it could als0o be a reference to how he slices the motorcycle in half (like a total badass) in Advent Children.
From what I can remember, Braver doesn't quite look like that. I'd have to check again because I got the Cross-Slash limit break a while ago and haven't used Braver since then.
I do know that Braver starts up with a kind of red-orange energy around Cloud, so his fair is different in that sense.
It's kinda funny that the only Limit Break that Cloud doesn't have is Meteorain. I would have thought they'd have made the aerial version of Down B just that.
Well this Lucina/Meta Knight main is back. I remember saying I was tempted to drop Cloud completely, but I'm still unsure. Even after saying that, I've still labbed with him frequently. Even after quite a few people ranked my characters:
1.
2. (50%) (50%)
3.
4. (50%) (50%)
5.
I just wonder if I'd be making a horrible decision doing such. He seems to have potential, although I will admit, I think a little more highly of Mewtwo or Greninja, as they're moreso underrated. But still! Perhaps I should at least keep him around as a secondary/counter? What do you guys think? Would waiting for Genesis to happen and seeing how things go down be a better option than trying to struggle with indecisiveness and choose between those 3?
I would recommend waiting a little for some Cloud combos and strategies before dropping him. There might be something that clicks if a new way of playing with him is revealed. Idk, just my two cents.

It depends. Are you going to genesis? Then you should stick with who you know best. If you plan on just watching how cloud/marth/MK mains do at genesis, then I'd suggest labbing cloud during that time if you're actually interested in him. Cause like smooth criminal said, playing a character because they're underrated is kinda not the greatest thing. I have to ask the question though. Why Lucina over Marth?

1. Genesis:You kidding? I haven't even gotten practice on Anther's Ladder due to no determined secondaries, or top 3 for that matter, so I'm in no way even close to ready for a big tourney like Genesis.
2. :I've been labbing and basically secondary...ing all 3 of the characters I brought up. My indecisive nature has made it difficult to choose, but based on the different people all rating Cloud as my worst, I figured perhaps I should remove him? Or maybe I just have no idea what he's capable of and I could do better? *shrug*
3. : Like in Melee, I could very well main Marth and get tippers without much of a problem, but it feels more rewarding playing as Lucina, plus, compared to Marth:
*Character loyalty for Lucina
*Personal preference compared to Marth
*She's underused
I could continue, but I think the points made itself clear.
First off, I went to Lucrecia's Cave and then I did 10 random battles to get Vincent's final Limit Break (Chaos) and his ultimate weapon (Death Penalty).
I went to Rocket Town as my next destination. After easily defeating some enemies, I went on the rocket and got the Huge Materia. Things are pretty bad so far because the rocket didn't affect Meteor at all. I went back in town to get Cid's ultimate weapon.
I then saw Bugenhagen to drop off the Huge Materia and got Bahamut ZERO and left to go to the City of the Ancients. So Holy has the power to stop the Meteor...
After easily defeating the Diamond Weapon, I didn't go to Midgar like I was supposed to. Instead, I fought the Ultimate Weapon. The Ultimate Weapon wasn't difficult and the fact that he flees made the battle easier, but he really didn't stand a chance.
I then got the Ultima Weapon and went into the Ancient Forest to get some items, like the Slash All Materia.
With the Ultima Weapon, Escort Band, Ribbon, and tons of Materia at my disposal, I thought I would do something that I've been wanting to do; get Omnislash.
And... and... and... I GOT OMNISLASH! I was so damn happy when I finally got this move! It was tricky I'll admit, but I had some strategies:
First, I equipped Cloud with the Ultima Weapon, Counter Attack Materia, and Slash All Materia so that he can deal damage all at once and if he gets attacked. I also gave him Enemy Skill Materia containing White Wind and Big Guard; Big Guard is the more helpful of the two since damage is reduced and Cloud moves faster. The more HP you have the better for the Ultima Weapon.
With the Escort Band, Cloud became immune to certain attacks, but the enemies didn't use them, save for one who used Bolt on Cloud.
The Ribbon made Cloud completely immune to all status changes. This accessory is crucial towards surviving in the Battle Square. Without it, Cloud will be screwed over by Toad, Minimize, Poison and others on the Slots and he will be screwed by enemies that deal these statuses early on.
With the Ribbon, if you see anything Status related, I would go for it because Cloud would be immune. At the end, I would recommend that you break your Materia, the best being all of your Materia. The reason is that if your Materia breaks, you earn more BP for your troubles. The last enemy shouldn't be tough if you casted Big Guard beforehand and have enough HP.
What screwed me over at some points was half MP and half HP and MP. With half MP, I had less MP to really set up with and use spells. Having half HP and MP is worse for obvious reasons, especially for the end. Without a ton of MP, you might not have enough MP to cast Cure or White Wind.
I didn't get the W-Summon Materia yet, but I will in Disk Three. My primary concern was getting Omnislash.
I then went on my pursuit in Midgar to stop Hojo! ...Which I didn't do yet. I'll do that a bit later today, hopefully before the end of the day, but I have to eat some dinner and thus I didn't finish Disk Two.
If that was possible, I would've done so by this point. I've played each character multiple times against different characters and different people for MONTHS. Indecisiveness ain't that easy to beat.

Hello, Cloud Social, how are you today? I just got finished replacing the circle pad on my New 3DS. It was thanks to Smash Bros that it broke. Funny thing is that I never broke the circle pad on my OG 3DS. Replacing the circle pad was really scary because I kept thinking I was going to rip the cables or break something. I hope I never have to go through that again, but it'd probably be easier the second time. My advice to those with 3DS Smash is to be very very gentle with the stick.

Very nice to hear you've made it this far. Omnislash was a pain for me to get even with the Ribbon lol. I remember it was the Battle Square where I found out that Finishing Touch doesn't work on the Ghost Ship.
Also, don't forget to pick up Barret's Ultimate Weapon when you go to Midgar. It's missable if you don't have Barret in your party and there's no way you can get it again.
Glad to see lot's of people getting into and playing Final Fantasy 7 easily my favorite FF ever, But I've played almost all of them and beaten quite a few... so hyped for the remake!
I'm hyped about the Final Fantasy VII remake as well. It's too bad we would have to wait a long while until who knows when it'll announce more details about it and when it'll come out.
I continued my raid in Midgar and has the choice of fighting the Turks or not. I chose to fight them... I mean why say no to free EXP, AP, and an Elixir?
I then went to the Shinra Building. Although there isn't a lot of stuff to do here (as it wasn't my main destination), I did get Cait Sith's ultimate weapon and the treasure chests.
Then I fought the Proud Clod and... it was easy. I'm offensively overpowered thanks to Cloud and the Ultima Weapon, so these bosses have been going down pretty easily.
I got Barret's ultimate weapon and I switched him out for Vincent. I fought Hojo and he was also pretty easy due to Cloud's Ultima Weapon and Vincent's Chaos Limit Break. He really didn't stand a chance.
I have to say that I do like the story and there is a lot of build-up to the final boss, especially with Cloud's speech. I don't think I will fight Sephiroth just yet. I am considering fighting the Ruby and Emerald Weapons...
Yup! ...Unfortunately, Cloud died while getting it. I even used Death Force on Cloud so that he wouldn't die, but it didn't work I suppose. At least it's not like in FF6's Fanatic's Tower where the boss of it casts Ultima on the whole party when you kill him... that got me salty.

The FF7 Remake is going to be on PC and other consoles since they described it as a "PS4 Console Debut". Who knows how long the wait will be between PS4 and other platforms, though.
On the subject of consoles, what do you guys think about the NX? Do you think it'll be worth buying over a Wii U before it comes out? How powerful do you think it'll be? What sort of interface will it use? I.e something like a wiimote, or a game pad remake, or just a brand new generic Xbox-esque controller?

No comment, since I know little about it. Iwata did say that it won't replace the Wii U or 3DS (whether or not it's compatible with Wii U games, again, I don't know). As for controllers, I'm fine with a gimmick but I would rather have a regular controller.
It's only gonna be on PlayStation 4 as far as I know. If it's also gonna be on Steam, then I'm gonna need a better, faster computer to play it there instead.

If it's backwards compatible with Wii and Wii U games, then I might consider getting it. If they put GameCube games on the eShop (since it's unlikely that it'll be on Wii U), then I might consider it.
