3DS Duck Hunt > WiiU Duck Hunt?

I dunno if DHD mains know if this is a thing, but in the 3DS version you can shoot the can mid smash charge if you have A+B smash set to off. I tried replicating this on the WiiU, but haven't been able to get it working though.

Is anyone else able to do this on the 3DS? can anyone replicate it on the WiiU? cause it looks like a great option for covering smash attacks.

I believe you can still do it on the wii u version although I haven't labbed it out because I rarely use DH's smash attacks because they're pretty trash
