The true hero of Dragon Quest!

SLIME!

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Who Is Slime?

Slimes are a peculiar race of gelatinous creatures common across all the various worlds of the Dragon Quest franchise. Often the first, and weakest, enemy you will encounter, but the Slime family is far larger than the single individual and includes a number of very powerful and varied variants, from Heal Slime to King Slime.

Slimes are not just any enemy however, they are also the Mascot of the series, appearing in every single game and the vast vast majority of merchandising. They appear prominently in the advertising for the series, in claw games at arcades, and just in general popular culture throughout Japan. They even appear as food and drink products ranging from sodas coloured in their famous variants, to meat buns in their iconic shape, and much much more if you go to the themed Dragon Quest Café. They are without a doubt one of the most recognisable enemies in Video-Game history up there alongside Goomba's and Pac-Man's Ghosts.

Moreover, Slimes aren't just enemies. Starting with the Dragon Quest Monsters games one could recruit Slimes into your party, and they often become one of your first conrades. Furthermore the Slime got a huge boost in the form as a pentagonal role in the Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest spin-off series (Also known as Rocket Slime) which now consists of 3 top-down action titles.

Slimes also act as one of the two mascots of it's parent company Square Enix, alongside the Chocobo of Final Fantasy fame... slime however tends to be the more prominent of the two in Japan where the Dragon Quest games are up there with Pokémon and Mario as one of the most popular video-game franchises of all time. Neither gets much use outside of Japan, but they are still the company's Mascots.

Slime also has a number of appearances alongside Nintendo's finest, particularly the Mario cast in the Wii iteration of Itadaki Street (also known as Fortune Street in US and Boom Street in Europe), and Mario Hoops 3-on-3 (a game which did also include Final Fantasy characters). Nintendo also has significant ties with Dragon Quest, happily promoting it as a major title in Japan, and going so far as to have Intelligent Systems (a Nintendo second party responsible for the Fire Emblem and Wars series') develop one of the spin-off titles for DSiWare: Dragon quest Wars. Furthermore in the west Nintendo have even published several Dragon Quest games, and still have an official western site for Dragon Quest... which is sadly kind of dormant at the moment.

I hope this introduction is enough to show that Slime is the best choice for a Square Enix representative, and a representative of their history with Nintendo.

Moveset

[collapse="My moveset"]Speed: Medium (hops rather than runs)
Air Speed: Medium Fast
Fall: Medium Fast
Size: Very Small (About Metaknight height)
Weight: Low (75 or so?)
Reach: Short
Jumps: 2, quite high.

Duck - Bubble Slime (becomes a bubbly slime tripping an oponent who tries to run over him, can move slowly while ducked)

A - Jumps forward smacking the foe with his body. Short reach, but bounces forward giving a little more range.
AA - Flips back hitting with his butt, returns to original position from first jab.
You can repeat this 2 hit combo indefinately.

Dash- Head Plant's after one of the hops, sliding a short distance, also drops anything stacked on slime's head.

FTilt - Launches forwards into a Headbutt, then squishing back into his original position.
UTilt - Flips upside down and jumps upwards butt bouncing anyone above him.
DTilt - Bubbles violently and releases a poisonous gas to all sides.

FSmash - Elasticates forwards, holding it to be stronger. Does damage as he snaps forward stretching out (better reach)
USmash - Squishes into the ground before bouncing up and hits with the point on his head.
DSmash - Stretches up and then spins rapidly with animations to either side (DQ 4/5 DS attack animation)

NAir - Spins with trail animations to either side, not very useful.
FAir - Smacks forwards with his head, can be used for slight horizontal recovery.
BAir - Smacks back with his butt-end, stretching out somewhat.
UAir - Flips back with a stretched out butt end, swinging above his head.
DAir - Face Slam, looks down and falls quickly to the ground with a stream behind, aimable forward/downwards, and jump canceled, bounces after hitting, allowing for it's use as a spike, followed by an elasto-blast back to the ledge.

Grab - Squidges down and with a white flash lifts the target a little infront of slime.

Pummel - Stretches up smacking the target with his head.
FThrow - Lifts the target onto the stack, can hop and use 1 jump at full speed, works like DK, but easier to break and does less damage.
Second throws are simply chucking them in various direction, nothing to note here.
UThrow - Elastoblasts upwards chucking the target upwards with good knockback.
BThrow - Roll Over, basically suplexing the target slamming the target behind them and sending him flying.
DThrow - Jumps up and spins, lifting the target with him, and then slams upside down into the ground.

NB - Stack Throw: Throws an item from the stack, somehwat aimable, starting from the bottom, it will act as usual afterwards.
SB - Elasto-Blast: Stretches out, and snaps back rocketing in that direction. Launches further the longer held, to a point.
Can be aimed in any direction and angle, and is the primary form of recovery.
Can be used three(?) times in the air before Slime gets dizzy and goes into a special fall afterwards.
UB - Stack Up: Lifts up an item, even some of those that normally can't be lifted, and puts it on the stack.
If used without an item ahead it will switch the bottom item to the top. The stack maxes out at 3 high.
When used with 3 items stacked the top one drops, the FThrow works the same but with a character.
The more items on the stack the harder it is to escape the stack, and monsters will pummel the target.
Waddle Dee/Doo Backup Slime, and Slime Knights can all be lifted, but projectiles cannot (unlike Villager's pocket)
A held usable item (beam sword, zapper, etc.) will take the first slot on the stack, but can be used as normal.
Players, Crates, Barrels and Party Balls will not slow down Slime while held, or stop him jumping, but do stop double jumps.
DB - Call for Backup: Calls for Backup Slime to appear beside him, only one will appear per use, but up to 3 can appear at most.
These slime don't have special attacks, smashes or grabs, and have poor AI, but can attack with normal A moves.
These A moves are lower damage and push back than Rocket Slime, and the slime are lighter weight too; lower level.
If a fourth slime is called the 1st will disappear. Ocassionaly a Slime Knight will appear instead of a slime.
Slime Knight has a sword and is decently powerful, he can also attack by himself from atop the slime stack.
He will also slash away repeatedly as he's thrown. If a slime knight appear, another can't untill he's KO'd.
Even more ocassionally a Heal Slime will appear, healing Hero Slime for a bit before disappearing.

Floor Hold - Unlike other who fall on their back or side, Slime falls on his face.
Floor - Bounces up and spins hitting the enemy with his butt end.
Tech - His face slides around his slimey body very quickly, head nipple and all.

Edge Grab - Sticks to the edge with his face.
Edge <100 - Slides up and along the floor as a bubble slime, producing poisonous gasses as he slimes his way up.
Edge >100 - Swings up and elastoblasts onto the stage causing more damage, but taking longer.

Final Smash - Schleimam Tank
Slime pulls out the Warriors Flute and plays a tune. During this the SCHLEIMAN TANK appears in the background of the stage and starts firing cannon rounds at the stage.

Special notes: When using a Mushroom he becomes a King Slime, rather than simply a giant slime.
Similarly when using a Green Box he becomes a Metal Slime rather than the usual metal effect.

Kirby Copy Ability: Kirby lifts a held item above his head, stacking it, if no item is held the bottom of the stack moves into Kirby's hand.
If a stackable, but not holdable, item is infront and nothing's held will stack it straight away, and drop it later.[/collapse]

[collapse=8-peacock-8's final smash ideas]Idea #1: KING SLIME! - Slime calls out two other Slimes. They then combine and become King Metal Slime. During this mode King Metal Slime can command multiple other Slimes to attack players via "B" attacks.

Idea #2: SCHLEIMAN TANK - Slime pulls out the Warriors Flute and plays a tune. During this the SCHLEIMAN TANK appears in the background of the stage and starts firing cannon rounds at the stage.[/collapse]

[collapse=Starphoenix]
Rocket:
Weight - 2
Size - 2
Speed - 6
Air Speed - 3
Fall Speed - 5
(Standard)
A - simple lunge forward.
AA - second lunge.
AAA - Rocket does a small flip delivering small knockback.
Running A - While running, begins to roll like a wheel into the opponent.
Up A - Jumps as if pointy part of slime is a weapon and pokes target.
Down A - Elongates his body and sweeps the ground with his body ala Mario Sports Mix.
http://youtu.be/xGlE_-FiVdA?t=1m56s
Side A - Puffs up and lunges forward to bash the opponent.
(Smash)
Side A - Elasto Blast: stretches in the direction pointed, can be adjusted during the charge; once the button is let go, Slime shoots forward.
Up A - Slime Medley: Two slimes are summoned to help form a slime stack, all slimes do damage in stack. Piston like effect pushing upwards with great force.
Down A - Bubble: Becomes a puddle and sweeps the ground. Radial effect.
(Aerials)
Neutral - Body expands as he spins around in place in the air, has multi-hit properties.
Forward Air - Coils his body and flicks himself forward slightly.
Down Air - Turns metallic like a Metal Slime and suddenly drops down, he is able to move horizontally while dropping through the air.
Back Air - Whips his body around to smack the opponent.
Up Air - Causes an explosion above him using a Rockbomb Shard.
(Grabs)
Grab - Wraps himself around the enemy.
A - Constricts them.
Forward Throw - Unravels the character like a top, spinning them forward.
Down Throw - Throws the character into the ground and crushes him/her under his body.
Back Throw - Wraps around their waist and slings them behind into the air.
Up Throw - Gets under them and stretches his body similar to Elasto Blast, instead he slingshots them above.
(Specials)
Neutral B - Frizz: He'll start charging the attack sort of like Fox's Up B. During this phase you can then use the control stick to aim the attack, sending an explosive fireball attack in any direction. Unlike Zelda you cannot change direction while using the attack. Sets players on fire for a few seconds and can also set areas of the stage on fire for a few seconds, dealing damage to anyone who wanders into the flames.
UpB - Chimaera Wing: Based upon the famous item in the Dragon Quest series. Slime will teleport skyward in a streak of yellow light. Straight up vertically. He won't be able to move horizontally until after he appears again. The move is like Zelda's teleport except faster and Slime never disappears, just streaks up into the air. After the move he will be unable to attack. The offensive side of this special is anyone caught under the path of Slime will receive damage and knockback.
Side B - Slime Knight*: A knight doll appears on Slime's back and slashes like crazy, sort of like Metaknight. You can hold down B and he'll continue to slash but you can't move while he's slashing. It is a multi hitting attack, much like Metaknight again, and can cause a player some damage if not careful. Slime can also drop the kinght doll on the ground and on its own it will begin attacking while Slime is free to move. The catch is the doll will dissipate 4 seconds after being on its own.
DownB- Back Up!: Summons a random member of the Slime family (She-Slime, Heal Slime, Bubble Slime, King Slime, etc...) for different effects:
She Slime: Lunges itself at opponent, weak damage
Bubble Slime: Will run away on the battle field, in the process running under characters and causing them to trip.
Slime Knight: A Slime Knight will hop onto the stage and deliver one large slash in front of him, 7%
King Slime: He will puff up to a very large size and crush any character in his path, 10%
Slime Stack: Several slimes will appear and hop on top of one another and will fall forward attacking all within their line, 4% per slime.
Heal Slime: Rare, when one appears he will heal Slime about 10%.
(Final Smash)

Final Smash - Schleimann Tank: The camera will zoom to the left of the stage in the background. Suddenly the gigantic Schleimann Tank will roll onto the stage. Once it ceases moving other slimes will be calling for Slime. When a cannon will suddenly appear on stage, leading Slime to hop and dance around before jumping into the cannon. He will then be fired into the Schleimann Tank. Once inside the cannons will begin being loaded and they will fire projectiles onto the stage. Rocks, boxes, Rock Bombs, explosive eggs, and missles will be fired onto the stage at a time. Once the Final Smash is over the final cannon will be loaded with Slime and he will be fired at the stage, causing a large, final splat/impact. He will flatten onto the ground, but spring back up and continue from where he left off.
Idle - Slowly moves up and down in place, ocassionally wiggling.
Running - He hops forward as in Rocket Slime and throughout Dragon Quest.
Shielding - Puffs his body out.
Colors:
Standard - Blue hue
Color one - Red hue
Color two - Green hue
Color three - Grey hue, Metal Slime
Color four - White and Orange w/ splotches, Spotted Slime
Color five - Black hue, Dark Slime
Kirby Hat - Slime Hat:

Kirby will have the top part/head and eyes of a slime, he will be able to use Frizz. He'll pull his hand to his body and start charging a fireball and release.
Taunt 1 - Begins scooting on the ground in a circle, then shivers.
Taunt 2 - Jumps in the air and gives one of his armless waves.
Taunt 3 - Hops around in the air, making a "wheeeeeee" noise.
Intro: Rocket comes flying out of the air after a cannon noise is heard.

*A Slime Knight is basically a knight resting on top of the Slime. In the Dragon Quest Heroes games, any living creature could utilize a Slime Knight, and if put on a certain kind of item, it would act on its own against anyone. if put on a certain kind of item, it would act on its own against anyone.

I've also considered making his Up Special "Balloon" like how in Rocket Slime he balloons himself causing him to float. Also I might change the stage to "Astortia" since that is the latest Dragon Quest locale.

Slime Moveset
SPECIAL MOVES==============================

Rocket can hold up to 3 objects or players at a time and is able to hurl those items one after another dealing DMG to anyone who is hit by the items or dealing DMG to opponents he tosses. players can button mash causing Rocket's Stack to fall apart and free themselves.
DMG: ?% (DMG sustained depends on the Item tossed) 10% (Player Tossed)

Side B – ELASTO BLAST– Holding down a direction and 'B' will cause Rocket to flatten out and stretch his body in the direction held. Rocket will eventually stop stretching and begin to glow- this is his attack at max power- release 'B' to blast off at incredible speed blasting into opponents to deal DMG and big knock back!
DMG: 12%

Down B - BABBLE - Rocket will melt down into a puddle forming a puddle of slime that bubbles in place making the ground super slick - anyone who touches this slime puddle will trip and fall reviving DMG.
DMG: 4%

Up B - CHIMAERA WING - Rocket flattens out as a Chimaera Wing pops out of his back and begins flapping carrying Rocket upward but soon disconnects from his body flying upwards still at incredible speed now that it is not tethered to Rocket. the Wing will deal DMG to anyone in it's path. pressing down on the directional pad will cause Rocket to release the wing early.
DMG: 9%

Final Smash – SCHLEIMAN TANK - Rocket takes out the Warrior Flute and plays a short tune teleporting players to a patch of flat land. the stage rumbles as the Schleiman Tank appears behind them and starts moving forward! players must run to the right- if they don't they will be crushed by the Schleiman Tank while running Rocket can press 'B' to fire bombshells out of the Tank these fast moving projectiles can be dodged by players but the speed at which Rocket can fire these may prove to be too much for some players to effectively dodge them all! after a time Rockets final Smash will be over and players will return to the stage.
DMG: 45% (from being crushed with huge knock back) 18% (per bombshell)

Kirby Hat - Kirby gets a Slime themed hat along with Rocket's Stack ability!

Enterance
Slime appears in the background, then hops forward into the foreground and faces the opponent. Underneath Slime is a white-on black text box saying, "A Slime draws near!" The text box is about the same size as the speech bubbles used for custom taunts in Brawl.

Specials
Neutral B: Frizz/Frizzle/Kafrizzle- Slime holds his breath and glows red as he charges up the spell. Upon release, he launches a ball of fire that travels in an arc and leaves a small column of fire where it lands. Increasing charge time increases the distance and damage. Rolling eliminates the charge so you can't camp with it.

Up B: C-C-Cold B-B-Breath- Slime faces down and breathes out a stream of ice breath. Works like R.O.B.'s rocket booster, but it doesn't last as long, and it damages anyone underneath it. Opponents will take several small hits, with a chance of freezing with each hit. At any point you can cancel the animation by pressing B again, and you'll begin regaining breath based on a timer. It's possible to attack after canceling, but Slime goes into a helpless state if you don't cancel and he runs out of breath.

Side B: Poof!- A small explosion goes off in front of Slime. The target is knocked back in the direction you move the control stick. Knockback decreases as Slime's damage increases.

Down B: Dazzle- briefly stuns the opponent, as a setup for other combos. Does no damage on its own, and only works in grabbing range.

Final Smash
From MukAndMew's thread: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/633202-super-smash-bros-wii-u/59748201
Slime Rush: Calls upon hundreds of Slimes (King, Metal, Knight, Healslimes, Dark, Bubble, etc.) and they all rush from one blast zone to the other, but after that, a Slime Tank will charge the battlefield in the same matter. Some slimes may stop and cast Scorch on the way. Collision and Scorch have very good knockback.

I was going to have this be Kaclang and have Slime turn into a Metal Slime, but I like this better.

Normals
A: Slime spins in a circle with a sword in his mouth, slashing in front and behind him. Quick and weak.

Running A: Slime drops a shield on the ground and surfs on it. Trips the opponent on contact.

Up Tilt: Slime holds a staff in his mouth and swings it straight up. The staff has more reach than the sword.
Side Tilt: Slime hops up and swings his sword down in an arc.
Down Tilt: Slime equips a set of fangs and bites the opponent's ankles. Terrible range, but OK knockback.

Up Smash: Slime equips the Metal King Helm and springs straight up with a headbutt. Less vertical range than Up Tilt, but better damage and knockback. One of his go-to killing moves.
Side Smash: Slime throws a boomerang forward about 1/4th to 1/5th of a screen length. Charging does not increase distance, only damage. Low damage for a Smash attack; range is its redeeming factor. Can set up for a Kafrizzle at higher damages.
Down Smash: Slime holds the staff in his mouth and sweeps it along the ground in front and behind him. Good range and damage, but punishable on whiff.

Aerials:
Up Air: Slime does a backflip with the sword in his mouth, slicing in a circle.
Forward Air: Slime throws the boomerang forward about 1/6th to 1/7th the length of the screen. If you try doing this move when the boomerang is already out, Slime will whip sideways as if he was still throwing the attack, but nothing will happen. The boomerang homes in on Slime's location as it returns, and only does 2-3% on the way back.
Neutral Air: Same as ground neutral A.
Backward Air: Slime raises a shield behind him and puts his back into it. Quick, good damage, bad range. Can be a good follow-up after a canceled Up-B.
Down Air: Slime pokes straight down with the staff. Functions like a footstool jump if it hits. Easy to punish if it doesn't.

Grabs/Throws:
Grab: Slime hops up and sticks to the opponent's chest. The opponent acts stunned because he's sticky, slimy, and doesn't seem so small when he's crawling on you and can bite.
Pummel: Slime equips a set of fangs and bites.
Up Throw: Slime quickly detaches from the opponent, slips between his/her feet, and headbutts straight up with the Metal King Helmet equipped.
Forward Throw: Slime bounces straight back, equips Metal King Shield, and slams into the opponent.
Back Throw: Slime detaches, quickly slides under the opponent's legs, and swings the staff like a baseball bat at their back.
Down Throw: Slime detaches and equips the staff, then swings it straight down at the opponent's head. The opponent falls back far enough so that they can't be chain-grabbed and receives a techable knockdown.

Taunts
Up Taunt: Slime faces the screen with his regular, goofy smile. Then his mouth closes for a moment. When his mouth opens again, he's grinning with his fangs in.
Side Taunt: Slime rolls on the floor with laughter.
Down Taunt: Slime appears to melt into a Bubble Slime, then resumes his normal form.

Victory Animations
Win #1: An assortment of Slimes from the Final Smash show up and hoist Slime into the air. They keep tossing Slime up and down until you press start.
Win #2: A large group of Slimes falls down from the top of the screen. They all pile up and form a King Slime that takes up most of the screen. This King Slime stares at you until you press start.
Win #3: The tank from Slime's Final Smash rolls in and showers Slime with confetti from its cannon.[/collapse]

Coming straight from Dragon Quest, it is the floating castle Zenithia! For those of you who missed out on Dragon Quest IV, V, and VI for the DS; first off shame on you, secondly this castle spans across the "Zenithia Trilogy" and plays an important role in the plot of all three games. This trilogy being published on the DS makes me believe this stage would be the most likely choice for a Dragon Quest stage. As you have a better chance of a person being familiar to this castle than any other locale in the DQ universe. It was a difficult choice choosing between this stage or The Observatory from Dragon Quest IX. Maybe down the road I'll do an alterante concept?
Now onto the stage itself. You would be fighting in the large courtyard before the doors leading into the tower. The castle would be glistening while you fight. The background would be magnificent as the castle slowly floats through the clouds. Beneath you could look upon the land as you pass over plains, deserts, ships sailing on the ocean, busy towns, and large towers. Seldomly you'll be able to see the Dragon Lord (Dragon Quest IV, V), Peggy Sue/Pegasus (Dragon Quest VI) or the Starflight Express (Dragon Quest XI) flying in the background in the distance.
One of the secrets to this stage is there is an alternate version that can load, what I call the "Dark World" version. Taking pages out of the many demon realms in the Dragon Quest series. It would take on more of a worn state as seen in Dragon Quest V and VI. You would see some of the iconinc monsters make appearances in the background. Such as Slimes, Golems, Drackys, Goodybags, Rockbombs and others. The sky would turn red and the clouds dark. Below, the once vibrant land would become withered; the waters dark, fires abound, the towers would now look more evil in structure, and the towns ruinous.

Arguments and Counter Arguments

1. Slime is not legendary.
[collapse=Counter Argument]What is your measure of legendary?
If we talk sales then Dragon Quest out-strips any of the current 3rd parties, ranging from double to nearly triple in the case of Metal Gear. Moreover if we talk merchandise sales or cultural significance they probably also win over any possibly competition barr pac-man, and even then in Japan I would say Slime and Dragon Quest probably has a good lead.
Dragon Quest, and by extension Slime as it's Mascot, is one of the big three of Japan, and historically the number 1, up there with Pokémon and Mario as the most recognisable and best selling video-game series of all time. The vast majority of the population can humm the first few bars of the Dragon Quest overture even if they've never picked up a controller in their lives.. probably a similar or possibly larger precentage than can humm the Pac-Man theme. Slimes appear in common food promotions, sell drinks, are in arcade claw games all over Japan... and even outside of it's home country Slime is one of the most recognisable things in jRPG history if not video-games.

If Slime isn't legendary then I can't see how you can say Megaman or Snake is.
[/collapse]

2. Slime has no arms and legs. He can't use any of the items or hang on the ledge!
[collapse=Counter Argument] While it is true he has no limbs that does not limit him. His elasticated body and the 'nipple' on the top of his head allow him to do many things others of his body-shape cannot, including reaching attacks by stretching, grabbing onto ledges and picking objects up. Infact the major mechanic of his own Spin-Off titles is grabbing enemies, crates, cannon balls and barrels, balancing them on his head and using or throwing them. This could justify him using items and be used as an interesting part of his grab game. Secondly the series has at times shown Slimes to be quite sticky, which would by theory allow him to just stick to a wall near a ledge if you feel stretching, or holding on with his mouth are too far-fetched, though personally I feel it far less farfetch'd than the quadruped Ivysaur holding on with one leg..

Slime has also been shown quite capable of doing sports such as Basketball and Hockey in the Mario sports games developed by Square Enix, if he can take part in those events I see no reason he'd be unable to take part in a Smash match.

[/collapse]

3. Black Mage would be better.

This is mostly an opinion based argument, often simply being 'I prefer Black Mage', but those comes down to two major sections

Final Fantasy is more popular than Dragon Quest.

Which again opens up to

Final Fantasy has more sales.
[collapse=Counter Argument]
You're quite right, the obvious measure is sales, and it is true that Final Fantasy has 102 Million sales to Dragon Quests 62 Million (at the time of posting this using Wikipedia as my source; though I would like to point out that Dragon Quest's number is a year out of date and I'm aware DQM2 3DS along has sold .75 Million since then). But one must be cautious when using such data as that does not tell the whole story.
Firstly one must consider how many games there are to each franchise, so let's just look at the main series: Final Fantasy is a little deceptive given it's latest game (Lightning Returns) is numbered XIII, but due to X-2, XIII-2, XIII-3 all being direct sequels and XIV also existing the series has 17 titles disregarding Spin-Offs. Dragon Quest is a lot easier with only the numbered 10. If we adjust Dragon Quest by this metric it has an equivalent 105.4 Million sales, slightly beating Final Fantasy.
But what about the sequels and remakes?! I hear you decry. Well, that's even more depressing for the Final Fantasy fans. My research has found 55 Dragon Quest games currently, whereas Final Fantasy has 168 listed on VGChartz, and this list excludes 13 of the Chocobo spin-offs (which are only fair to count as I'm counting the Slime spin-offs). Three of these titles are shared thanks to the Itadaki Street games, but adjusting Dragon Quests 55 games to Final Fantasy's 171 gives Dragon Quest 192.7 Million... which would be in line with the Wii series as the third most popular video-game franchise had it as many games as Final Fantasy.
[/collapse]

Final Fantasy has a larger fan-base.
[collapse=Counter Argument]I can't find any evidence either way, so you may have a point, but I'm not sure. Final Fantasy may have a larger fan-base outside of Japan, but inside Japan Dragon Quest is practically a cultural institution, loved by practically everyone, regardless of if they consider themselves a 'gamer' or not. Final Fantasy is more an Otaku series to them. Moreover Dragon Quest's fans aren't just in Japan, there's a not insignificant following in America and fairly significant following in Europe, and while the sales are fewer I argue this is more to do with marketing than the number of actual fans of the series. Final Fantasy is the name that gets into the Media, and therefore more people pick it up out of curiosity inflating the sales more than the often unmentioned Dragon Quest... I still agree Final Fantasy has more fans in the west than Dragon Quest, but I think it's closer than you might think... moreover over the world I believe Dragon Quest wins quite handily.

Secondly the fandom of Final Fantasy is much more split than that of Dragon Quest. Thanks to Final Fantasy's sudden departure from it's roots for Final Fantasy VII you have two very different types of games, and fandoms that don't always cross over between the two. The Classic Final Fantasy that you're asking a character from (Back Mage) is actually the less popular one by both sales and polls with VII and X beating the classic SNES VI in practically every poll devised... There's also a lot of bickering over the best Final Fantasy, and major arguments between FFVI, VII and X fans... None of which contain a traditionally styled Black Mage...
Dragon Quest isn't completely without it's quibbles ultimately the entire fanbase is extensively familiar with Slime, and will accept him far more than any individual Final Fantasy character would be accepted.
[/collapse]
Black Mage fits better with the Smash cast
[collapse=Counter Argument]This is again opinion based. Slime's appearance in Fortune Street and Mario Hoops shows that he had no issues fitting in with Mario, DK and so on, whereas Black Mage's appearance in Mario Hoops had him redesigned significantly to suit the setting... not that this is entirely new as the Princesses often have redesigns for sports games, but that fact Slime didn't require one for either game should show he fits with Mario perfectly well, and in my opinion shows he fits better than Black Mage.

Moreover this itteration of Smash Bros is more focused on bright primary colours and expressiveness. Slime is the perfect candidate for this given he is one block blue colour and his entire body is a highly expressive face!
[/collapse]
4. Slime has no moveset potential.
[collapse=Counter Argument]The move sets in this thread should prove that the first argument is not the case, Sllime has a lot of move set potential just based on the fact his body is a liquid, let alone the Magic he can use in the main series games. His ability to call backup would make him pretty unique, especially alongside his ability to merge into Slime Stacks or loose form to become a poisonous Babble Slime.
[/collapse]

5. He's too much like Gooey.
[collapse=Counter Argument]I don't see it. Other than the obvious shape similarities the properties and move set potential of he two differ greatly! Gooey is all about his tongue, while Slime focuses on stretching and calling back-up.
Moreover this is a pretty moot point as Gooey is a one-shot ally to Kirby massively over-shadowed by Bandana Dee, Magalor and even the more recent Prince Fluff (also a one-shot)... He's not liekly to get into Smash at all... Slime on the other hand is one of the biggest faces of the Video-Game industry making him far more prominent.[/collapse]

6. There are better characters then Slime in the Dragon Quest series.
[collapse=Counter Argument]Another opinion based argument. While the Heroes are notable in Dragon Quest thanks to their distinctive Akira Toriyama style, ultimately none of them have as wide a reach as Slime... within the games or not. Slime is all over the place in Japan, and in every single Dragon Quest game there is, even the spin-offs, and the card games... Any individual hero would be unable to represent the whole of Dragon Quest in the same way slime could.
[/collapse]

7. But everyone wants Geno!
[collapse=Counter Argument]Not true. Geno hype has died down greatly since the Brawl days and only a small handful of people are still vocal about their support for the guy. Geno is also extremely unlikely to make playable even as a Mario character thanks to Rosalina and potentially Bowser Jr.'s competition and his appearing in only one game.
That said if you are a fan of Geno I implore you to support Slime as it does give him the best shot of being in the game at all. While I think he's most likely to be an Assist Trophy, and that may be disappointing to you, I could see it as a pretty high likelihood if Square Enix where to get a character in. Afterall, if Slime was already in the game it would take a lot less work to also get rights for Geno to be in also.
[/collapse]

8. Dragon Quest is dead.
[collapse=Counter Argument]This is plain untrue. Dragon Quest has released numerous games recently, including a remake of Dragon Quest Monster 2 for 3DS, Dragon Quest Monsters VIII for iOS and Android, Dragon Quest Monsters Super Light, and a recent expansion pack for their MMO Dragon Quest X (which has over 1 Million sales and over 300,000 Daily Active Users in Japan alone). There's a rumour of a Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Tales of crossover game in ther works and there's also been a fair ammount of talk about Dragon Quest XI in Japan, including Yuji Horii mentioning that it'd be on a console and not on mobiles... though to questions of if these are in development or not Square Enix have stayed notoriously tight lipped.
But I do somewhat see where you're coming from. Dragon Quest hasn't had a western release in 3 years now, but that is likely to change in the near future. Square Enix have recently Trademarked several subtitles that fit the Dragon Quest style, and even resubmitted Dragon Quest VII: Journey of the Cursed King this time including the mobile version. There's also recently been am ESRB rating for 'Dragon Quest 1&2' for mobile phones, and that's not including the whole bunch of remakes they could bring over more easily (the 3DS Rocket Slime 2 and Dragon Quest Monsters would not need trademarking in the same way). There looks to be a huge resugence of Dragon Quest planned for the west, and what better way to celebrate that than with Slime as a playable character in Super Smash Bros.?
[/collapse]

9. Square are the more important company.
[collapse=Counter Argument]This is again, opinion. Enix has had a longer relationship with Nintendo, and unlike Square, has returned their flagship series to Nintendo consoles with DQIX X and the various remakes and spin-offs. Final Fantasy's main series is still staying to Playstation. Moreover the merger of the two companies happened when Square was in financial trouble, not Enix... Enix basically saved Square from bankruptcy making it the bigger company, surely?[/collapse]

Well, he would certainly be a fun character to add. I'd enjoy seeing him in smash 4 but I can't really make any arguments for or against him since I hardly know a thing about dragon quest.

Though I know little about the character, he looks like a fun addition. You've got my support. :)

I don't know much about him since I never played a Dragon Quest game, but he's got a lot of potential and Dragon Quest is closely associated with Nintendo consoles, actually. He's also pretty cute.

Also, he's appeared alongside Mario and his crew in some sport games made by Square Enix as well as Fortune Street for Wii and Itadaki Street DS, obviously for Nintendo DS.

I think you can add me to that supporters list! :)

UPDATE: Made some changes like added little sprites to spruce up the post and put a picture of Slime playing volleyball to prove my point on how he doesn't need no stinken hands. Also Rocket Slime theme.

Slime was one of the characters from the leaked list. How will he hold items and hang on to edges? Here a leaked image of him.

Add me to the supporters list! I haven't even played the Rocket game and I only played the first Dragon Quest game... but still, Slime just seems awesome and fitting.

Important note: While some people might say "Black Mage is better", "Geno instead" or even "A moogle would be the best thing ever" (what? Still only me? Oh.) it's kind of important to note that Slime would be representing Enix's history with Nintendo while the others would be representing Square. This might make a difference for people considering him.

Oh, and I'm in the process of creating a Black Mage thread. :) Ideally, I'd want to see both as they would both be rather unique characters.

I was typing out my disappointment about how Slime would never become playable since Sakurai rejected Mr. Saturn due to having no arms, but then I thought of something.

Little Mac is probably going to be playable, right? Sakurai stated that Urban Champion failed to become playable in Melee due to the fact that "he could only punch". But here's the thing. Little Mac has a lot more to pull from than Urban Champion ever did. Plus with him being an important Nintendo franchise and being among the Top 5 most wanted characters, Little Mac could very well get in Smash 4.

While the situation are not the same, they are similar enough to where perhaps Sakurai can change his mind on an arm less character not becoming playable eventually. Mr. Saturn had very little to nothing to pull from and no matter how you stretch it, he just isn't going to work. Slime has a variety of moves he can pull from and his ability to create temporary limbs can overcome his limbless problem. Dragon Quest is also Square Enix's second most important franchise and one that has a ton of connections with Nintendo. At one time, Slime was even decently requested in Japan (thought that has since fallen as Mega Man is currently the only highly requested third-party out there).

While I very much doubt a playable appearance by him for SSB4, I do think that SSB4 is our shot to start developing a large international fan base for Slime for SSB5 (assuming there is one). If we're successful, Slime could end up having a very real shot of getting into Smash 5.
Perhaps I can start plans on how we can push for Slime's inclusion in a Smash game if Little Mac and Mega Man are confirmed at E3 this year.

I would give anything for Slime to make it into a Smash title. I would even be fine if he made it in as DLC for SSB4. But if we have to push for him to get into Smash 5, then so be it.

I have to say, the moveset modeled around Rocket is exactly what I had designed a bit back when I was trying to figure out what Slime would be like. However, that moveset really only makes sense if the "Slime" actually is Rocket, and chances are it'd actually be a generic "Slime", since that's what the actual mascot of the series is. It probably would call for a moveset that's more like ViewtifulGene's...

How exactly would Stack work? While you hold down B he goes around grabbing things but when you let go he starts throwing them?

The way I see it is that Slime's moves would be a combination of the RPG games and Rocket's abilities. Stack would most likely be used in the grab.

However, Stack as a neutral special would probably work like that.

Maybe the slime would be able to grab people and carry them around like Donkey Kong does! Also, he could keep items on top of him while he's carrying them around... that'd be a good enough stack reference for me.

Having his Final Smash be him absorbing dozens of slimes and turning into a metal slime with an angry face would be great... Not to mention the fact that it'd be the easiest thing to program ever- just make him act like he's got a super mushroom on giant mode and metal box him. Ooh, and throw on a hot curry. Boom, God Slime.

I kind of want to combine The King Slime and the SCHLEIMAN TANK in some way.

Alllllllmost seems excessive. :p You could make the King Slime assemble and then have him form the tank around him... Then, as he takes damage, the tank falls apart leaving just the King Slime... then, as the King takes damage, you'll see slimes getting knocked out of him, shrinking him with each hit he takes until he's back to just being normal..

That's actually a really good idea. King Metal Slime could also throw other Slime's at opponents when the tank's cannon is gone.

Wrong. It was that he "put out too little".
As in there's not much Sakurai can do with him.
Sounds more like Urban Champion didn't do Sakurai enough "favors"...

Slime's pretty cool. Star got me to support him pretty well a while back. Hardly think much of him anymore.

...so much for my plan for pushing Slime to get into a future SSB installment.

*goes back to almost exclusively supporting Mega Man in regards to third-parties*

Glad to see that there are people who don't mind Slime. :)

Pretty much. Were also lacking a Black Mage thread
But I already made a general DQ character thread... and you even posted in it IIRC :(

I support Slime and/or anything DQ getting into Smash 4.

Slime was on the supposed leaked list. If anyone hasn't seen it, here it is.

King K Rool (Donkey Kong)
Zoroark (Pokemon)
Ghirahim (Zelda)
Little Mac (Punch Out)
Saki Amamiya (Sin and Punishment)
King Hippo (Punch Out)
Ridley (Metroid)
Prince Sable (Frogs the Bell Tolls)
Palutena (Kid Icarus)
Professor Layton (Professor Layton)
Megaman (Megaman)
Crystal (Star Fox)
Slime (Dragon Quest)
Shulk (Xenoblade)

I had to drop Sonic from the list because he's not a newcomer.

I think he'd be so much like Gooey (atleast looks-wise) that we might as well just add Gooey.
Then you obviously didn't read a thing in my post if you think he'd even be remotely like Gooey.

However, if your only basing it off of looks then of course Slime would look like Gooey.
