3.2u Wii: Project M detected but doesn't properly load

I've been trying to get Project M loaded for quite awhile. I got the homebrew zip, have all the necessities, yet when I go through Gecko OS 1.9.3.1 with the custom Project M skin and load it up, it doesn't register and instead loads basic Brawl. It's quite aggravating, is there anyway to fix this without having to update to 4.3u?
