I thought it'd be good to have a central Brawl topic rather than us posting in our individual topics. After all, this tournament will be happening across the country.

If you haven't read up on it yet:
http://www.nintendo.ca/brawl
I think the official name is "The Brawl to End Them All" or something. I like my name better.

General Rules:
- Contestants must be 13 years of age or older to participate.
- Only one entry per person is allowed. (You cannot enter at multiple locations or on multiple days)
- Nintendo will supply contestants with Wii remotes to participate in the tournament. No personal equipment allowed.
- Ranking will be at random. (I assume this refers to seeding)
- Contestants may not choose their own characters. (You must pick random)
- Contestants have a pre-determined number of “lives” per match. Winner is the last player with live(s) available.
- 3 stocks
- Free for All most rounds, more info below

-Tournament Draw Format:
Round 1: - Consists of 12 matches
- There are four (4) contestants per match
- One (1) winner of each match continues on to Round 2
-The three (3) non-winners are eliminated from the tournament

- There are two (2) Contestants per match

Each participating EB Games location will host one (1) tournament draw (schedule posted at www.nintendo.ca/brawl); consisting of nine (9) contestants. Contestants will be ranked at random and slotted into the tournament draw. The one (1) winner continues on to the National Final.

Not being allowed to pick your own character is a bit messed up, and so is the tournament format.

But eh, even if the tournament is a bit on the abnormal side, I'm still all game. I could use the $500 and random Nintendo merchandise.

Anyone else going in from Calgary?

Whoa... random character? WTF, honestly...

I can't decide what worse - this one or the one-on-one one minute matches for Gamestop's tourey.

Ah well, I'd also like the monies and merchandise, and if people who are better than me are disheartened by the rules, I guess it's easier for me.

Looks like I'll be practicing with the Wii remote until then...

Or I could just not go and make everything easier.

My suggestion for winning this tournament, AND giving yourself a real tournament experience:

Host a real Brawl tournament with your own rules.
This tournament proceeds as normal, winner gets prize money etc...
Everyone who joined that tournament joins the same Nintendo tournament.
Fix it so the winner of your real Brawl tournament wins this one.

Problem with this is that everyone still wants to win (and has a chance to) so they might end up agreeing to the rules, and then just going all the way anyway. lol. My trust in humanity is low, but this might work amongst friends?

don't think i'll be practicing with the wiimote though, that'll just throw me off when i go back to my gc controller
*they should at least provide classics, the wiimote is THE WORST controller of all!!!*

Ok, for people that live in the GTA the prize flight to toronto is worth 2000 bucks so you should see some sort of compensation as they say on the site "No substitution, exchange, or transfer of the prizes or any portion of the prizes is permitted, except by Nintendo, in which case a prize of equal or greater value may be awarded."

I think living in Toronto is a fair enough reason to switch.

Also, the trip to New York is a trip for 2 with 2 nights lodging in a hotel and 500 dollars CAD in spending money.

I'd know how to make a real fun tournie XD!

Okay so everyone gets to use a GC controller and the heading would be like...

"You can play Super smash brothers, but can you play it...backwards?"

The general rule is: You play holding the GC controller upside down or backwards...XD

Yay, I'll at Shoppers World in Toronto for this. Not that I expect to win... but it could be fun, I suppose. I still need to find out which day I'm playing on though, they told me I was playing on Friday April 19th... but the 19th is Saturday. :x

The only location in Ontario still accepting participants is the one in Etobicoke. The really screws things over for me.
Wanted to go, but doesn't even seem worth it now.

There is a good rule on there however, contestants need to be over 13. Nothing like a bunch of whiny children to enter a smash competition. I might go just to break a few heads then lose when someone randoms and it picks one of their good characters. Oh and is it the wii remote sideways or mote/nunchuk together? i just hate how the b button on the sideways wiimote is shield/dodge.

So, pleasant surprise. The rules were changed for the better. No Random characters, and some other changes.

But I lost on my first round. Was disapointed. I was Mario, and I might have won, had it not for this one Lucas getting the smashball constantly. No way to dodge it. ;___;

But I had a lot of fun. Really did. xD
