This thread was created after the banning of the previous creator in order to hotlink all the official stage discussion together.

THE NEW OFFICIAL STAGE DISCUSSION

NEW BRAWL STAGES

Welcome to the brand NEW Official Stage Discussion! Due to unfortunate situations involving the creator of the previous thread, a new thread has been created to be a hot-link between all of the confirmed stages. This thread has been made to discuss everything about these new stages. Don't worry, I will keep updating this page with all of the new stages including pics of them and links to their respective topic forums.

BATTLEFIELD
CONFIRMED: May 22 2007

Bio: The penultimate Melee stage, remodeled for Brawl. This stage has received a major graphical overhaul, taking it away from the black wormholes of Melee to the bright skies and dark days of Brawl. This stage plays the same way as it did in Melee, only now, there is a day-night cycle in the background that changes as the match goes on.

DELFINO PLAZA

CONFIRMED: June 1 2007

Bio: This new stage behaves like Mute City.... only without cars and with a scenic view! Here, platforms carry you across to different sections of the Plaza, some open on both sides, and a few with closed sides. Each stay at a section is brief, and then the characters are carried off to another section.

YOSHI'S ISLAND

CONFIRMED: June 12 2007

Bio: The stage from Smash 64 has returned, only minus the clouds and multi levels, and replaced with one swiveling platform and a support ghost. Some amount of changes huh? The biggest thing about it is though the graphical change - watch the Island go from season to season.

LYLAT CRUISE

CONFIRMED: June 22 2007

Bio: It's amazing isn't it... a stage that does not take place on the Great Fox. No, this is the Pleiades, and it is soaring through the asteroid fields of Corneria. There are no hazards, only a beautiful view of galactic fights above. The stage flies through different galaxies, but don't worry, oxygen should not be worried about.

BRIDGE OF ELDIN

CONFIRMED: July 6 2007

Bio: Dude... look at the size of that? It's like, 2.5 FD's!!! Yep, but, it's walk-off. Shame, isn't it. This flat stage from Twilight Princess is basically, just flat. The only major hazard is King Bulbin and Lord Bulbo's ride across the bridge, dropping bombs, and blowing pieces up. But don't worry, it will regenerate after time.

SMASHVILLE

CONFIRMED: July 13 2007

Bio: This simple stage is very neutral, featuring only one-moving platform overhead. It takes place in an animal crossing village (is that Tom Nook?). The appearance of the stage is determined on the internal clock, making the stage dark or bright. It is rumored, that on Saturdays at 8, K.K. Slider gives off a little performance...

RUMBLE FALLS

CONFIRMED: July 23 2007

Bio: Didn't Sakurai learn from Icicle Mountain? Well, at least this one only goes up, and apparently keeps going up, via planes. No hazards seem to be seen, and.... a re those ladders? Please, I'll just triple-jump....

SKYWORLD

CONFIRMED: July 25 2007

Bio: This seems to be the first ever Smash stage with completely destructible platforms. Well, sort of, once broken, clouds replace them, but they can be stood on, but smashed through. However, the stage quickly regenerates.

CASTLE SIEGE

CONFIRMED: August 2 2007

Bio: In what should have been Akanea in Melee, Castle Siege is a new, moving 3-tiered stage. On the top, a typical castle top, but rather small. Soon, the players are warped to the walk-off interior with destructible platforms. Form there, they head off to the Underworld, where a single platforms hovers over a bottomless pit in hell. Ooooooooooo.... spooky.

WARIOWARE

CONFIRMED: August 31 2007

Bio: Simply incredible, magnificent... but yet, so... strange. The scenery from this stage is of the Gamecube Warioware, aka Mega Microgames. The basic area of the stage is rather simple, but sometimes, the stage will transport into a minigame, where players might have to fend off flying arrows, smashing hammers, and rain. Some sort of reward is also given out from this stage as well.

POKÈMON STADIUM 2

CONFIRMED: September 6 2007

Bio: This stage seems to be exactly the same from the previous version, at least at start. Instead of the transformations from Melee, we have Ice, where things get slippery, Wind, where jumping ability is doubled, Ground, where heaps of Earth arises everywhere, and Electric, with many conveyor belts. Pokemon appear from the background, but it doesn't seem like they play a part in battle. Also, what does this mean for POKÈMON STADIUM 1?

BATTLESHIP HALBERD

CONFIRMED: September 12 2007

Bio: This stage has been a part of speculation, with its obvious involvement in the Subspace Emissary. Otherwise, it makes for a rather cool stage! Play begins in a hangar, where it eventually flies out and lands on the deck of the ship. From here, the player has to be aware of the ships laser, grappling arm, and cannons.

SHADOW MOSES ISLAND

CONFIRMED: October 2 2007

Bio: This stage is surrounded by high walls at the left and right. Death is only accomplishable above, unless you tear down those walls, which create walk-off sides. Those towers feature guards, whose spotlights simply cue an esclamation point and sound effect. And, every now and then, a Metal Gear will pop out of the back of the Facility. We know of REX, RAY, and a "slightly" newer model (the Gekkos).

NEW PORK CITY

CONFIRMED: October 15 2007

Bio: ****, that's huge! It’s pretty **** big. It's in scale with Hyrule Temple, but with platforms in seemingly random places. The background of billboards seems to be very distracting. Also, the “Ultimate Chimera”, a giant pink monster, attacks players occasionally, dealing out one hit KO’s.

PICTOCHAT

CONFIRMED: October 22 2007

Bio: Honestly, what the heck is this?! This is one random stage. The stage starts flat, but eventually, drawings are drawn out and players fight on new, 2D, interactive, drawn platforms and obstacles. Could this stage mean Wii-DS-Brawl connectivity? One can only hope….

THE SUMMIT

CONFIRMED: October 31, 2007

Bio: Finally, the ice Climbers get an actually good stage! No more scrolling for these guys, it's sliding on from here. See, this stage begins at the summit, but all hell breaks loose, as the stage breaks off and slides into the water below, where polar bears and fish from Balloon Fight live.

NORFAIR

CONFIRMED: Novemer 9 2007

Bio: If you had to guess what one Metroid stage would be like, what would you' say? Would it revolve around lava? Well, guess what... you're ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!! Norfair is a 5 platform stage in a V pattern, where lava rises from EVERY direction, from the left, right, above, beneath, pretty much everywhere. But now, a chamber appears to store players from the incoming lava. But you’ll have to fight to get in there.

MARIO CIRCUIT

CONFIRMED: December 13 2007

Bio: In what should have been displayed MONTHS ago, we finally get confirmation of Mario Circuit. Here, you battle at the crossroads of a figure 8, with Shy Guys coming from below and jumping from above. They can be monitored, with a display screen in the back. You can also make them wipe out with a well timed hit.

FRIGATE ORPHEON

CONFIRMED: DECEMBER 18 2007

Bio: What's this? A decent Metroid stage without lava?! Praise the heavens... our prayers have been answered!!! In this stage, a battle takes place in front of the Queen Parasite, who watches over the battle. As the battle continues, the lights flicker on and off. Then, a siren will go off, signaling a complete 180 degree turn of the stage.

DISTANT PLANET

CONFIRMED: JANUARY 15 2008

Bio: The new Pikmin stage is in fact, very hectic. The platforms are bouncy, and when it rains, a downpour comes form the left walk-off incline, washing away players down below. At the right, a giant Bulbmin comes and eats all unsuspecting players. But is it representative of Pikmin and everything about it? Two words: HELL YES.

FINAL DESTINATION

CONFIRMED (ON THE DOJO): FEBRUARY 5 2008

Bio: It's FD, only much more beautiful. Dropping the multi-sided ocatognalish shape, FD goes with a simple yet stylish rectangle shape, that travelts through time and space in the background, visiting planets and wormholes. One of the most, if not the most beautiful stage in the game.

MARIO BROS.

CONFIRMED (ON THE DOJO): FEBRUARY 12 2008

Bio: Oho! Now THAT’S a faithful recreation! - says Sakurai. And I guess he's right. It all ,ooks just like the classic arcade game. The screen does not scroll, and all sides are walk-off. It is rather hard to kill someone through the air, as all of the platofrms are non-pass through. The goal is to beat your opponents mainly off of the sides, which is more easily accomplished by acquiring turtle shells the old-school style way. Then, throw them into enemies.

GREEN HILL ZONE

CONFIRMED (ON THE DOJO): FEBRUARY 14 2008

Bio: Sonic fans could not have asked for more when it came to this stage. It perfectly recreates the feel of the classic Sonic the Hegehog games (not the recent crap ones mind you), and features one giant dip in the middle, with walk-offs on both sides; fairly symmetrical. In the background, knuckles, Silver, and Tails perform cameos as they spin around the shuttle loop. Also, the stage breaks away in the dip as it takes damage.

LUIGI'S MANSION

CONFIRMED (ON THE DOJO): FEBRUARY 18 2008

Bio: Probably one of the most requested and predicted stages, Luigi's Masnion makes its appearance. The stage takes place over a large ditch, and features 3 main platforms, 2 within the house and one on top. On the sides are small moving platforms. The supports in the house can be broken, crumbling the house. If the entire house is destroyed, after a certain amount of time, it will respawn.

SPEAR PILLAR

CONFIRMED (ON THE DOJO): FEBRUARY 29 2008

Bio: Spear Pillar is technically a two-faced stage. The stage takes on a blueish or purplish hue depending on the Pokemon that will appear in the background. In the background, it is known that 3 different type of pokemon will appear, all creating different havok on the players, like tilting the stage, slowing time, flipping the stage upside-down, and shooting beams across the satge.

75m

CONFIRMED (ON THE DOJO): MARCH 4 2008

Bio: Again, another predicted stage has made it into Brawl. Albeit, everyoine would expect 25m to show up, but instead, 75m does. This stage is humongous, featuring tons of platforms of different varieties. The original Donkey Kong (who is actually Cranky Kong) stays dormant in the back of the top, but sometimes runs up to the front and threatesn anyone who touches him.

RETURNING MELEE STAGES

HYRULE TEMPLE

CONFIRMED: November 30 2007

It's good to hear that many stages will be returning in Brawl. It's bad to hear that some of these stages will get pretty much no grpahical overhaul. Yet, Hyrule Temple still remains a classic stage, so it's good to see it back.

YOSHI'S ISLAND

CONFIRMED: Januray 7 2008

CORNERIA

CONFIRMED: Januray 7 2008

The first stage that has appeared in all version of Smash has come forward in Corneria! Quite possibly one of the most famous stages, here you battle atop he Great Fox (not as big as it seems huh?) as Arwings attempt to shoot you off. Watch out for those twin lasers!

CONFIRMED: Januray 7 2008

Well, after Corneria, we got our second stage that has appeared in all previous versions of Smash. Definitely not favorited by the majority of Smash players, it is here that the original Acid?Lava idea came along, where acid rises at a random pace to burn the player. And is that the Pokemon trainer in the distance? Man, he's gotta have one hellofa arm to reach the stage from there....

RAINBOW RIDE

CONFIRMED: Januray 7 2008

To those who were wondering what so different? well, two things. One, the name is different, it used to be called Rainbow CRUISE... but this seems to be a biit more fitting. After all, we already have Lylat Cruise, is another neccessary? And two, the layout and background have been changed. it seems that battles take place on moving carpets, much like the original game.

Yeah it did. But it went up a lot more often than down. Once it got to the summit (Yeah there actually is a summit) for me and it stayed fixed which actually made the stage kind of all right.

And don't say there isn't a summit because I've seen it before and I was like, "What the hell?"

Right... sorry about that, a bit off topic.

Is it exactly right to start doling out "BANNED" "LEGAL" "SEMI-LEGAL" for a game we haven't even played yet?

By the way, those spotlights on Shadow Moses Island don't do crap to players, except give them a little exclamation mark above them (which does absolutely nothing).

I hope I don't sound like a hardass, but I have to say something here.
Most of these stages are banned for BS reasons.
Yeah, you can say "this is just opinion" all you want, but it doesn't change my point.

Here's a couple pieces of criticism:
-WarioWare. If you don't like the minigames, don't listen to what they say to do.
People who concentrate on fighting and following the minigame would logically be more distracted than those of you who are not following it.
Now, while I can't say I know what the punishment is for not following the minigames' directions, the only matches I've seen on the WarioWare stage ended fast enough that it doesn't look like you take extra damage or more knockback for ignoring the instructions.

-Distant Planet has obvious cues to rain, and if you use even a bit of basic logic combined with observation, you'd note that slope + water = current -> death by falling down off-screen. Also, the Bulborb periodically opens its mouth to yawn - it doesn't appear to actively attack people, and it's easily avoidable.

Then again, I'm new here. While you could ignore me on that principle alone, I'd hope you can take criticism without resorting to comparisons of join dates.

If all of you are so pissed off at my **** opinions, I'll remove them, if it will shut you up.
I don't understanmd why I can't have my own god **** opinions without people ****ting onee about them. So many people on this site have had their own friggin opinions about the game, some right and some wring. So why are you all suddenly ****ting on me for mine.

Alright, I'll remove them. Cause all of you jsut seem to be little *****es.

pretty gay opinions if you ask me
No one is asking you, anyway.

This forum would be a heck of a lot a better place if people like you didn't post. The fact is, a lot of competitive play bans some stages in order to create as fair play as possible. That's a fact. So if someone wants to give their opinion on what will probably be banned or not, they're not allowed? It's just something to talk or think about.

Everyone believes a forum is a place where we can voice our opinions, but that doesn't mean we can just say whatever we want. You can't just come along and say "Your opinion is wrong." We're here to talk about the game, so if you're not going to do so then would you kindly stop posting all together?

Zorygon has the right idea; You can disagree if you're not going to be a huge jerk about it. And honestly, if you'd really think about it, you'd realize that being nice about things is the most logical choice, but I suppose that doesn't come to mind for you.

grud, I actually was interested in what you had to say. I even returned to this topic to see what stages you thought would be banned etc. I'm not even much of a competitive player(I usually play on any map) but I just wanted to see things from the side of the competitive players. I think you should put your opinion back up, not for me, but for you. Don't let anyone convince you to make your opinion unheard, because it wasn't hurting anyone.

Apollo, if you actually thought about it, you'd realize that grud was doing less whining and making a good point. But of course you jsut cast his remarks aside. That's close minded.

Yeah, why are walk off edges bad again? If we find any sideways-moving chaingrab type combo, I can see them being banned, but for now I think walk off edges shouldn't affect the legality of a stage.

Yeah, I think you missed the point by a long shot. It's okay to have opinions, but having opinions on what should be banned when the game has 1)not even been out a week and 2)has not been played by 99.5% of the Smash community is dumb. By what metric are you judging what should be tournament legal?

I did not miss the point, and it is not dumb to have on opinion on which stages you think will be banned. Saying this stage or that stage will probably be banned is no different then saying this character will probably be really good or that this certain game mode will be fun. These opinions aren't finalized, and no one is saying they are.

It is entirely possible to be able to predict what might be banned. I don't know exactly what criteria is used to ban stages, but they are obviously banned for a reason, so it's not unreasonable for us to make predictions. AND I repeat, these predictions aren't finalized and no one is saying they are.

Also, my point was that we should be allowed to express our own opinions about this game, but our expression should be limited as to not just blindly dismiss what others say as drivel. Are you saying you disagree with that?(not trying to mock you, I'm sincerely asking)

EDIT: Let put this really basic like.
-He's giving an opinion
-It's no unreasonable to make a simple opinion based prediction when it's based on some sort of criteria, even if it's hard to measure.
-If it's not unreasonable, it's not fair to say his opinion is wrong or dumb. Just ignore the opinion if you dislike it so much.

-So what? Having an opinion doesn't mean it's free from criticism.

-The best criteria we have is stuff we learned from Melee, but that doesn't mean it's going to apply straight across to Brawl. Hell, look at the tier list differences between SSB and Melee: Pikachu, Kirby and Ness were on top of the world in the original but are in low tier purgatory in Melee. The OP cites "walk off edges" as a reason for banning some of the stages he lists, but will those even be an issue considering that Fox can no longer waveshine people off the stage? We're applying Melee criteria to Brawl stages without considering the reason those factors are considered in the first place, or if they're even important anymore.

Bannings should be rare, justified by empirical evidence that they unbalance the game too far in favor of one player. You're not going to get that evidence a week after release.

-see point one. If you want to make an assertion, you need to be able to back it up. Saying "OMG it's my opinion" does not shield you from criticism.

By all means you CAN disagree, but just saying "it's a dumb opinion" is being a jerk about it. If you want to say "I don't think this should be banned because of ..." that's fine.

I'm all for none of these being as suspected when we actually get our hands on the game, but that's not the point. It's just discussion, and as i said before no one is saying that the opinions and predictions in this topic are 100% final(seriously, remember this part). My point is that you can't just tell someone an opinion is dumb and leave at that, when clearly these opinion are hurting no one. They're just predictions on the game(and it doesn't matter if they're wrong, we can discuss that if we like)

The reason I posted in the first place is because Apollo decided to post with such a trivial comment as "your opinion is gay" and that's just childish. I'm not saying that if the OP says a stage might be banned or legal, that he will be right, that's for discussion. I didn't think it was fair that the OP should feel as though he is being attacked and then want to remove his opinions because someone wants to be unreasonably offensive. THAT is what's not fair.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and when I went on earlier about how it's reasonable to make a prediction, I didn't mean it's reasonable to do so and then claim it as always fact. We just have to take a prediction for what it is. I know everybody always makes predictions like this, but we need to remember not to take them seriously all the time.

Yeah it did. But it went up a lot more often than down. Once it got to the summit (Yeah there actually is a summit) for me and it stayed fixed which actually made the stage kind of all right.

And don't say there isn't a summit because I've seen it before and I was like, "What the hell?"

Right... sorry about that, a bit off topic.
now i need to see this-- how long were you playing, or is that really just not true??

It's true. I saw it. I can't remember how long it took to get up there though... I think about 15 minutes. It might have been a glitch though I don't think so. It explains the level in the Debug Menu that is called Mountain-Top (I don't know if that's the exact name but it's something like that). I wonder if someone could make a cheat to make it not freeze when you click on it in the debug menu. I'll try and get there again and post it on my Youtube account.

Good info thread.

I don't think you ought to put whether stages are going to be banned or not simply based on your speculation.

This is not Melee and we probably shouldn't ban anything until its been proven unfair in tournaments.

Environmental hazards usually don't lead to a ban unless it gives massive advantages to a couple characters.

Stages got banned in Melee because they were broken (Fox being able to stall forever on Yoshi 64, Temple, Termina, etc). Action oriented stages were always counter-pick if deemed unfair to everyone.

"neutral" does not imply that a stage is flat or hazard free. Its a stage where no character really has any significant advantage. It just happens that basically every stage like this is low on hazards. Something like Yoshi's Island (Brawl) shouldn't automatically be labeled counter-pick and Warioware isn't necessarily banned.

Not yet at least.

Time for some serious debate and facetious satire.
DELFINO PLAZA
Stage Legality Opinion: COUNTERPICK. While the stage is moving to random places and behaves like Mute City, and despite the fact that at one point there is a giant wall to the right at one point, the thing is, is there any actual outer influence on the player in terms of damage? Can’t imagine this one being banned.
Oh no! A wall on the right of the screen? Characters with wall-jumps have an unfair advantage.

YOSHI'S ISLAND
Stage Legality Opinion: COUNTERPICK. It will be legal as long as the Chain Chomps don’t interfere in battle, and the Support Ghost appears at random intervals.
Chain Chomps? I think those are just part of the background.

BRIDGE OF ELDIN

Stage Legality Opinion: BANNED. Hard to believe a flat stage would be banned. It’s way too big, walk-off, and has huge interference with King Bulbo, and the destruction of the stage.
Oh no! Walk-off edges? That means Fox can infinite waveshine you to death. Because wavedashing totally exists in Brawl.

SMASHVILLE
Stage Legality Opinion: LEGAL. The top platform moves from side to side, but
You say that like moving platforms make the stage less competitive.

CASTLE SIEGE
Stage Legality Opinion: COUNTERPICK. The middle of the 3 stages, the castle itself, is walk-off. Otherwise, I’d say it’s definitely LEGAL.
Oh no! Walk-off edges? That means Fox can infinite waveshine you to death. Because wavedashing totally exists in Brawl.

BATTLESHIP HALBERD
Stage Legality Opinion: LEGAL. The beginning area is too short to be deemed a walk-off.
Well, is it a walk-off or isn't it? After all, if the stage is a walk-off for ANY period of time, that means Fox can infinite waveshine you to death. Because wavedashing totally exists in Brawl.

PICTOCHAT
Stage Legality Opinion: BANNED. The order of transformations is probably random, and very interfering.
That's like saying "Burn her, because she's probably a witch, and very evil."

DISTANT PLANET
Stage Legality Opinion:COUNTERPICK/BANNED. The left side is walk-off, and there are quite a bit of hazards with the rainfall and giant Bulborn. The rain is probably like being on the track in Big Blue, though it is easy to get out of it.
I couldn't agree more. The rain and the wandering Bulborb are too disruptive. Players with common sense get an unfair advantage.

MUSHROOMY KINGDOM
Stage Legality Opinion: COUNTERPICK/BANNED. The Overworld seems legal enough. Though it's walk-off,
No waveshining = walk off edges OK.
it is rather easy to kill someone in that stage. Items might cahnge that thoguh (from the ? boxes).
Turning items off FTW?
The underworld though, whole different story. It looks rather impossible to kills omeoene,
Fsmash FTW?
and charatcers like Bowser will have an extremely rough time getting around the stage.
Destructible blocks FTW?

G-X, I am actually happy that you posted all that. Your opinions and actual insihgt are actually changing my opinions on the stages.

And officially I'll be removing my impressions until I play Brawl.I should be playing extensively soon, (know a guy who bought a copy), so maybe then I'll post them back up. Until then, they are going to be down.

Hope that that doesn't upset anyone...

lol G-X, thanks for your "very serious" insights, they all are really good. I totally agree with you on every account. However, the main reason people ban walk off edges in Brawl is because as DK you can easily throw your opponent out of bounds.

However, I think that that is just part of the game and that if you're playing against DK you should just stay away from the edges.

No, DK= Suck tier and no one uses him competively.
Walk-off was banned in melee due to Fox's infinate shine. With wavedash removed Walk-offs are perfectly fair.

I hate walk-offs due to the removal of any edgegame (where I shine) I still don't think they should be banned.

Only stage I forsee getting a ban is New Pork and Hyrule Temp. due to ranged stalling.

who are you and why do you think you can establish stage bans

thats pretty much up to the smash back room
Excuse me, but I never said I had any authority in the matter. I just stated my own opinions. Opinions are always allowed. (You would have understood that if you actually read previous posts) I don't give a rat's *** what you care about my opinions. I just stated them because I'm sure that someone agrees with me.

Besides, you don't have to agree with me but you can't say I don't have the authority to state my own opinions. Where I come from we have freedom of speech.
