Todays update is about the previously mentioned, Event Mode, and it’s return. However, just like Adventure Mode, these can be done with a friend. On the Main Event menu, press the 2 player button, and the Co Op Events screen comes up, with a range of new 2p challenges, though ther are less 2p ones than single.

Events can be similar to the one player events….

It’s the same as the 1 player Event, but you’ve got someone playing as Kirby to help!

Or they can be completly different.

Pikachu and Pokemon trainer, vs Pikachu and Pokemon Trainer!

And yes, that it a glimpse at one of Pokemon Trainer’s alt costumes.

One of the other events announced involved coins. Yes, coins.

Ugh. For those who didn’t play Melee, or just don’t remember, Coin mode was one of the rule modes, along with stock (lives) time, and bonus (where you got bonus points for things like using all 4 throws, only facing one way the whole match, ect)

Coin was rarely touched because it just wasn’t very fun. When you died, you lost half your coins, which with the ammount of coins flying around, was enough to set you back a lot, and then when you killed the guy who killed you, theirs went down to about your level. It worked out to be the same as doing Stock, and was rarely used.

Anyway, on a lighter note, to continue with the Co-op goodness, another new Co-op thing, is co-op target test! This was great fun to do in Melee (If you used an Action Replay “cheat” device) and should be a very interesting addition. I look forward to seeing the records set by people. Need to get that target on the other side of the level real fast? Why not smash your friend over there and have him hit it as he flies by?

Meh. Don't know about anyone else, but I'm entirely underwhelmed. I can even see this as a bad thing, since it'll make some of the event matches less of a challenge unless they do something to increase the difficulty when you do the co-op version (see: Two Trouble Kings).

...and really, whats the point of co-op target test? I can't even imagine why you'd want to do that as a team. Are they just making everything co-op?

Oh well, theres always tomorrow.

The drought may not be ending as soon as I thought if they can seriously drag more than one update out of every single game mode. This could have easily be mentioned in the first update.

At least we can hope they won't waste our time with an update around co-op Targets or Coin Mode, though after they updated Meta Knight's moves twice, it wouldn't surprise me if they did again here to fill more time.

Target Test looks extremely lame now. They're not designed around the character you pick, you can do it with two players, and they even threw items in there. Where's the challenge?

Can't get much worse than starting the week out with a game mode.

sooner or later we'll have some sort of co-op multi-man-melee

nothing wrong with Co-op but does everything have to be Co-oporized?

Yes. Even Single-Player Classic Mode. Seriously, why does everything have to be co-op? Isn't the name of the menu that this stuff is in "Solo?"

This update was good. it will be interesting to see the two player events because they are seperate from the 1 player. i actually would like to have a ****e load of 2 player stuff because its nice to be social and play with other ppl.

who cares whether they announce megaman or anounce a heart healler thing. the game has so many awesome **** in it so who cares now. if you wanna complain about something think about aussies who have to wait 6-7-8-9+ months for this game .

get over yourselfs and just enjoy the fact that this game is coming out.

Well aren't you some of you a bunch of whiny son of a b****es? How you gonna say it can't get any worse. Are you serious? This was a good update and a good add on to target and event mode. Friday's AT update and today's mode update are two of the most informal updates since stage builder update that we got back in October. I know everybody wants the CHARACTER DROUGHT to hurry up and end, but there's no way you can say this was a bad update or that your "underwhelmed". You shouldn't be saying it can't get worse then this, it's more like it may not get better than this. Though I hope I'm wrong because I wanna see more good updates like this.

I love the co-op... finally I can play everything with my BF, we can actually play it together and enjoy it with different modes, multiplayer of course is fun and challenging, but it's fun playing together... like doing the adventure together would be great :p
Co-op is good for people who like playing with people :)
You don't HAVE to play co-op, so why not put it in and shut up?
Anyway, about the items in target test... That's sad, I hope it will be challenging like it was in melee and 64.

What, so we're not allowed to say when we're not excited by an update anymore? Its called an opinion. Everyone is entitled to theirs - just because you like this update and others don't doesn't give you the right to start hurling groundless insults or getting preachy at those who disagree with you. I can and do say this was a bad update, that I'm underwhelmed, that I wouldn't care if this wasn't in the game at all, or any other opinion I may have of it, just as you can say you feel it is good update or any other opinion you may have of it. Respect that.

From what I've seen, there are events that can only be played in Co-op... which means I can't play it alone. THAT'S why I don't care for it.

This makes me worried that they could also have unlockables or other stuff you can only get through co-op. Doubt it, though, but still makes me worry.

Looking ahead, co-op event four seems to involve the Lightning Item, event six involves ZSS and Zelda, and event five has you facing Shadow Link and Shadow Samus.

Lots of hidden tidbits of info in this update.

Alternate PT color.
Alternate Ivysaur color.
Alternate Charizard color.
Alternate Diddy color.
Ivysuar DOES use his vines. I'd say he's doing a running grab, and he missed.
PT is in event #5 of solo and event #2 of co-op. Makes him a starter?
Dedede is in other early events. More proof that he's a starter?
The theory that the little squares above the events represent 'pages' of events is debunked.

Also, the other events shown allow for some speculation!

Giant DK vs. Diddy?
The lighting bolt from Mario Kart is finally shown.
Dark Samus and Dark Link vs Samus and Link?
Zamus and Zelda together in an event.

And just for me... it looks like Dedede has an awesome up tilt or up smash, seeing the arc of coins in that one screenshot. WOOT!

I'll say it again: Zamus and Zelda being together in an event, much less being the entire focal point, is suspicious. We all know what the potential connection is (besides that they're both girls), don't we?

I doubt it'll shut up the people who think Sheik is going to be removed for some reason. But it's worth noting.

It's finally an update we'd love and have been waiting for. This is the start of a line of really great updates. At least I hope it is.

Can't wait to try out Co-Op with my friends.

For those of us with siblings that always complain when they're excluded during the traditionally single player modes, this co-op stuff is welcome. Or alternatively a curse - "Why aren't we playing co-op?". Either way.

Also, I don't suppose anybody can tell me what is behind DK in the picture of the sixth single player event? My brain doesn't seem able to comprehend it.

Alternate Charizard? Where are you getting that? Is this just an extension of the Green Pokémon Trainer?

They look like Metroids. At least when I zoom in. They have the distinctive coloring.

Event #2 of co-op. Its puke green. Dragon Charizard FTW!
Oh, I see it now. In the events screen.
I hope Shiny Charizard is in there. Maybe some kind of Dark Pokémon Trainer Outfit.
I wonder if Squirtle will be entirely green, or just his Shell to match his Shiny colouration??

Looks like Diddy to me. You can make out his red hat and tail.

But, upon further inspection... I see another tail, and purple coloring. Another alt color for Diddy confirmed?

Or.... no way... it couldn't be... DIXIE?!!!!!

If so, you heard it hear first. If Dixie is in the game, everyone remember, XARIAS CALLED IT!!

Diddy's already been confirmed to have a Dixie colour, hasn't he?

Last time I checked, the entire point of a forum such as this was to share thoughts and opinions. Again, just because mine and yours are different doesn't mean I'm not entitled to speak them, whether you like it or not, nor is it your place or anyone else's to judge what the "worth" of anyone's opinion is, especially on something as subjective as a video game. Simply respect that and there should be no problems.

I totally believe Dixie could be in. After her, though, none of the other Kongs really have a shot. Kiddy Kong from DKC3 was just a DK substitute, and all the Kongs from DK64 and other games aren't really important or different enough. Just throw in K. Rool, and you have your complete DK roster.

You know, a sudden leap from 1 PC in 64 and Melee, to 3 or 4 PCs in Brawl, would really shake things up for the DK series. I'm all for more representation for those crazy apes, they've had fun games in the past, and sadly, the series has kinda gone downhill lately.

Anyone want a DKC4, in full 3D with cutscenes and an actual story, but still retaining its side-scrolling roots? You can choose which two Kongs you want to take with you, between DK, Diddy, Dixie, and others. I dunno... maybe, FUNKY?! That would be sweet! And you'd need certain Kongs' abilities to get to secret areas of stages, to open up alternate routes or get to the goal. OMG that would be the best game in a looong time!

...So that means you can't pick the characters you want in Event Mode anymore?

Or either there are less events like that in Brawl.
In Melee there were plenty of events where you got to pick your character as well as events where you couldn't choose. It could be the same in Brawl; I'm guessing they just didn't show us the events where you CAN choose who you play? Not sure, but I highly doubt they'd deviate from an already established Melee habit.

Just as a side note, there was an event in Melee where you played against three girls (Event 15, Girl Power). Do you guys think they'll have event matches that are almost the same as the ones in Melee? I should hope they'd be more creative? But who knows?
