The Star in Brawl: Stafy Joins as an Assist Trophy

Today Sakurai revealed Stafy, from the game “Densetsu no Stafy”. This 36cm star is one of the few trophies with some unique properties to him. For those looking for him as a playable character are probably saddened by this news, but not to worry, Sakurai didn’t leave Stafy hanging… well, kind of.

While some see Stafy as possibly as a starfish, like Sakurai, this seems to be a common misconception for those unknown to Stafy’s adventures.
 Based on the DOJO it really doesn’t explain much about Stafy other than his care-free nature.

It does say he does a spin attack on your opponents, but past that it doesn’t look good for Stafy.

I mean, come on, Stafy is one of the few Assist Trophies that can be knocked around.

It seems like Stafy is more a distraction than as a trophy for knocking your opponent out.

Sad, but true. I wish Stafy could have been playable, but I suppose them's the brakes. At least his cuteness made the transition from Densetsu to Brawl!

The one thing that would make me love this AT is if Stafy makes this face when he gets hit:

But still cute, isn't it? ^^ There was very low potential for an actual "real" moveset, so Sakurai included him anyway because so many people wished for it.

You know, the assist trophy idea was very well thought out for characters like Stafy and Waluigi. So STOP saying Sakurai is an idiot for not making them playable! (I smell some future negative posts in this thread, so I wanted to point that out again as many already have)

Well, that lowers the amount of characters wanted for Brawl by one. Seems like a good assist trophy, except for the whole turning on you sometimes part. . .

I'm disappointed at this Stafy AT ONLY for the fact that it's not Tingle we're able to beat the crap out of =(

Seriously, though, it would make perfect sense, and it'd make us happy =P Tingle could spin his little.. whatever it is around.. and throw sparkly stuff.. and then we can punch/kick/shoot/etc. him until he dies :D

It'd be a blast for everyone on the stage! He'd be my favorite AT if he were like that :D

(STAFY IS CUTE! OMG! *joygasms* What the hell is it about him that makes him so cute?! He's just a star with a happy face! Just like the drawings your teacher would do on your tests in grade school!)

Haha, that's true. Oh how I'd like to see that ^^ But Tingle is probably only a trophy as shown in a screenshot. But at least, WindWaker Tingle didn't nearly get that much on my nerves than the one in Majora's Mask. That should count as a plus.

And Somasu, I agree with you that Stafy's so cute and I don't even quite know why ^^ He reminds me so much of Kirby in that way. I mean, Kirby's just a pink blob with a happy face. But I think it's because they look so cuddly, like plushies.

I feel sorry for those who supported Stafy, but this was an awesome and unexpected update. I never heard befor about him until this forum, so I can't say I hate him. I'm just glad he isn't a PC. And Waluigi is deconfirmed w00T!!

This has been the best update all month, I say. They may not have added any characters in forever, but at least they busted two of the less reasonable ones. I'm very happy. And they EXPRESSLY STATED that no assist trophy will ever be of any playable character or vice versa.

... they expressly stated that assist trophies won't be playable characters in the same update that introduced them.

Strange update- poor Stafy. Probably my favorite character that I'd never heard of until the forums, heh. And Waluigi... well, I'm glad. See ya.

Sakurai also stated that he's one of the rare assist trophies that could be kicked around. That means, there must be other characters you can beat up, I wonder who that will be

FINALLY, Waluigi deconfirmed. I would have cried if he was in.

As for Stafy...I really had no idea who he was before these forums. And I still barely know anything about him. So I guess I'm glad he's only an AT.

I thought this update was pretty good. In fact, I thought all of this week was at least slightly better than what we've been getting.

I feel bad for Stafy, because I know he's big in Japan and has a lot of followers. It would've been cool if they "pulled a Roy" and gave him a lovely passport to visit other countries.

I've been saying it everywhere: I'm a fan of Waluigi and all, but he's the most shallow Mario character ever and did not deserve a playable slot. He'll be deserving when he appears in something that involves plot and isn't sports or party related.

The most disappointing part of the update was the breaking of the one-red-update-a-week pattern. It left me feeling confused. Could Sakurai be winding down entirely in preperation for the Japan release? On the other hand, with this week being slightly better than the few prior, could we finally be seeing an end to the draught?

Only time - and Sakurai - will tell. (haven't used that one in a while!)

Same thing for me...

Stafy had so much reasons to be in (a lot more than Geno, I'm sure that we'll never see Geno face in Brawl), but well, pretty assist trophy... Though...

Today was a breaking-dreams update ! ^^
I think that a lot of people was supporting Stafy and Waluigi, and now, they are no reason to continue to do it...

Sakurai certainly want us to stop supporting characters...

I knew Stafy wouldn't be fighting, but I find it very weird that Waluigi is an assist trophy. After all, Wario is a playable character.

This update no doubt has a great mix of emotions... but with Waluigi, just how many assists are there? More and more of this website's wishes have been half granted! Now to wait for what is to come...

Btw, is anyone else frightened by waluigi?
