Ok, so, I know this will just get everyone excited… I think. I mean, if you’re not a hardcore Smash player then I guess this is exciting. Of course I’m sure some have not thought about the potential for making Sudden Death matches in tournaments. So here we go.
<p align="center"><strong>Handicaps, woo-hoo!</strong></p>
<p align="center">?<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/various12_071114a-l.jpg" alt="Handicap Screen" align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /> <!--more--></p>
So the handicap controls have returned for this game. This has actually be re-tuned to help newcomers of the series to the game so they don’t feel like they are being bullied by more advanced players.
<p align="center">?<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/various12_071114b-l.jpg" alt="Handicap feature." align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /></p>
Choose the handicap option for your character. Unlike the previous games though, there isn’t a simply number, it is a percentage.
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/various12_071114c-l.jpg" alt="Percentage." align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center">By doing this, you can set the initial damage that you start out with.</p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/various12_071114d-l.jpg" alt="Initial Damage..." align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /></p>
Of course that also goes for for every stock you have in battle. This could be useful in making Sudden Death matches. While this update has many not seeing anything worthwhile from thi, it should be taken into account by the competitive community for another tool to assist in dealing tie situations.
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/various12_071114e-l.jpg" alt="Same percentage, different stock..." align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center">In fact this might be useful for giving confidence for those who are new to the series through auto-handicapping.</p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/various12_071114f-l.jpg" alt="Auto-handicapping..." align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center">Auto-handicapping works by raising and dropping the percentages of the characters based on previous match performance. One can assume that a more skilled player will be able to make up for this.</p>

I said it before and I shall repeat:
I love this update.

And I shall go and paste the first paragraph all over the "What's the dumbest thing you've ever heard someone say about Smash?" thread.
Not because it's stupid, but because it's exactly what some "hardcore" people need to learn.

Ahhgh the puns they burn! But seriously this is still pretty meh. At least it is a better handicap than the old system.

Well I use to use the old handicap as a big part of my training. I would like to see how this boils over to brawl. It should still be useful. I know for sure it will be easier to understand and use now. Still I say it's a good move on the develop part.

I'm surprised it wasn't more E4A information, so this update is good news for me. I'll see what my friends think of it tomorrow.

God forbid they try and pace the updates seeing as the game is released in February...

*Rolls eyes so much they fall out*
*Moves palm to face so swiftly wrist snaps*

Looks like the game of intense cat and mouse won't be around for Brawl.

Melee's handicap system enabled you to do matches where you had to flee from strong players. That has been pretty crazy.

It's a shame that we won't be doing matches like that anymore.

I thought it was an interesting change in the handicap system. I'll probably use it for lulz matches.

And c'mon guys, you can't expect great updates all the time. The game's out in Feb. Sheesh.

um ye i know that not all the time there can be great updates all the time. but cmon. this is worse than getting a million papercuts on your manly parts and washing them in salt

oh and wouldnt announcing huge things a few months before the release dates would make people really want it.

The past week seems to be alternating between tasty gameplay and new(and old) game mechanics, hmm....

I sense something good from this week though!

The new handicap system is much better than the previous system. As Sakurai said, skill really comes into play for the handicapped player. This is where smart playing comes into play.

ok....im usually positive about these updates and i know they gotta delay till feb but.....these updates are really annoying me. were going to need something awesome both tommorow and friday to make up for these. todays and yesterdays shoulda been 1 update because sakurai has already mentioned both of these in older updates.

You know, I get up in the morning just to see if I newcomer (Krystal) or veteran (C.Falcon) came, but then I get this? I cannot lie this update is least bit interesting.

Oh well, even do this update is intended for beginners, it looks like it'll ante up the challenge for pros who will play brawl. Oh make it into a sudden death game.

well, it is better than moar e4all info... I kind of liked the old one too, it was fun but hard as heck to beat a lvl 9 falco with any handicap, but fun...

This update is actually pretty cool, but I wish they left in the old handicap system in as well.

I've never really used handicap, unless I was really really bored. I'm more interested in the "more rules" button.

EDIT: This week's updates were awful so far, it's kinda sad that originally we would be getting Brawl 3 weeks from now.

Hey! its not a "Also seen at the E for All conference" update! I would be completely psyched if it wasnt something that probably none of us will use! of course there are those times that you are beating a friend so bad that they will quit if you dont handicap yourself, but really this update was an update that was "needed" and thus that makes it not too different from the demo updates. :lick:
