<p align="center">It’s what we’ve all been waiting for, and what Nintendo’s been refusing to talk about for ages and what every most smash fans have ben wanting: Online Smash. Today it’s finally been confirmed, and given a brief rundown on a few of the cool things that you can do.</p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/wi-fi01_070918a-l.jpg" alt="It's the menu. Yeah. No seriously." /></p>
<p align="center">

</p>
<p align="center">As mentioned above, there’s 2 main modes: With friends (Hello FC’s ) and With Anyone.</p>

<p align="center"><strong>With Friends</strong>
This is the Friend Coded part of the game, with a nice wide range of customisability, from names (Longer than 4 letters!) to <a href="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi01/wi-fi01_070918c-l.jpg">avatar-icons </a>and having little statements under your name on the roster (Leave a note of when you’re next online!)
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/wi-fi01_070918b-l.jpg" alt="Dunked like a donut?" /></p>
<p align="center">One of the things people had been wanting was Multiple Taunts. This was mainly brought about because In Melee, up on the D-pad was taunt, the other 3 directions doing nothing. In brawl, this has sort of been remidied. In Friend Matches, you can assign a phrase to a taunt, to a max of 4 phrases for the 4 directions. Wether the actual taunt animations are any diferent, or wether this can be done offline as well is unknown though.</p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/wi-fi01_070918d-l.jpg" alt="Janey hits her Elbow with a golf club. Ouch!" /></p>

<p align="center"><strong>With Anyone</strong>
This mode is just a free for all with 3 other smashers. No names, no taunts, just the usual smash up. One plus is this is WORLD wide, not just region (Mario Strikers, looking at you!) However even with worldwide there’s bound to be a peroid where you’re waitng for that extra person to join, so Sakurai’s recruited Sandbag for your waiting-smash up entertainment.
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/wi-fi01_070918f-l.jpg" alt="Gotta love Sandbag" /></p>
<p align="center">Quite a fitting update for Update #100.</p>

Aw snap! And it's not even completely Friend Code based!? This helps nerf the largest doubt in most people's minds about this game.

I suppose now the question is, can you set up for a random 1on1 encounter as oppose to preset 4on4 matches. This would obviously require you waiting for other people who specified the same settings. Or of course a "hook me up with any game" options.

Yeha...Wi-Fi, what looks to be four different taunts, and a cool load screen as you wait for the match to begin. I like this update.

Sigh a thought occurs...

Is this an actual screenshot?

If so does the characters/icons shown have any hints towards characters? I know there MUST be more characters then this, but that's pretty selective for a random screenshot.

All the people/icons there have already been shown, and it's not suprising that Mii's can be used as Icons.

More than likely that was not a random screenshot, but a purposefully spoilerfree one.

Not sure if I got my point across, but what I meant was that the character's shown just happen to be the only character's we've seen. It's as if the Icon selection screen was designed to avoid spoilers to this date.

I mean wouldn't the franchise icons be all grouped together? I can't believe that's an actual screenshot.

Hmmm... Wi-fi play doesnt excite me very much' but im glad they have it so people can stop worrying about. Other modes than free for all probley means more than special brawl, looking forward to seeing what they are.

OH YES! Finally, what we have all been waiting for. I knew Sakurai would not disappoint, this way I can finally get some real action from all the way here in Okinawa, Japan. Yes, I know the Dojo said that connection from Japan to America would be bad but whatever, Ill still try, and it'll work in the end. And "Anyone" is worldwide right? So does this mean I can connect to Japanese smashers too? (Forgive me if that was a stupid question)

Yes.

I can't wait to play people from all over the world. (Use Nintendo Brand LAN Adapter on your Wii to help kill lag. Wi-Fi wireless Sucks!)

Notice how it says player 2 is selecting character, and player 3 is selecting stage. I think it uses the stage voting system from Mario Kart DS. Everybody selects a character, and then everybody selects a stage. Then you play on the stage that got the most votes, or one at random in the case of a tie.

Awesome

Dam this is sweet now I can truly test my skills with random people and my friends who are in other area. Now all they gotta do is say Sonic is in Brawl and that would be the icing on the cake for me. Man Im so happy this is the greates update for me by far:chuckle:

That isnt a bad system. I just prefer voice chat for friend games.

I guess Sakurai has been keeping count on the number of updates. Great update that confirms the one thing most of us had been waiting to hear about for the game.

The screenshot with the icons intrigues me because it means either a) it's been modified to show only the characters we know so far or b) the 18 characters (samus and Zsamus counted together) we have so far could be the starting roster.

Most likely it's been modified franchise.

But I wonder what this means for miis as a playable character. Looks like they may be stuck being as icons.

"There will also be no battle records kept for [With Anyone] mode. "

**** it. This is a terrible, if not totally unexpected, decision by Nintendo =\ Come on, you could have a ranked AND an unranked mode for With Anyone, but Nintendo hates competition, apparently. It's not even about being better than someone else and proving it with a record, but making sure newbs can fight newbs and pros fight pros. I'd rather not be stuck fighting what seems like five year-olds all day when looking for a challenge.
**** it all.

This is awesome! Now I can find more challenging battles! I win far too much at smash against my friends, I need to lose a few times to find out how to improve.

"We’re planning a number of services that make use of Wi-Fi"? What else can you do besides battle? Do I detect characters unlockable via Wi-Fi?

Although they seem to be overdoing it on everyone battles, even for a T game. Every other WFC game has at least let you know your opponent's identity and thus keep a kind of leaderboard of the battles...
Maybe that's a separate mode.
