I don't really think any woman here plays as female characters just because they're female. I'm Italian, but that doesn't mean I necessarily want to play as Mario or Luigi.

Grass has actually very useful resistances to Ground, Water and Electric, three very potent offensive types, which helps Grass type Pokémon into synergizing very well with Pokémon of other types, particularly Fire and Water types which appreciate a lot having a teammate with such resistances...

You understimate how long it can take to get rights. It took years to get the rights to use Sonic in Brawl, even resulting in the game being delayed; negotiations with Bandai Namco seem to have been easier, but there was still some disagreement from both parts, as Namco was pushing for Hehiachi...

It doesn't matter if Lucario was designed first for the anime; it's clear as sky that the intent was always to feature him in the games. Regardless, Pokémon originates as a videogame franchise, while Vocaloid doesn't.

I think that the influence of the so called "casuals" over the ballot is vastly overstimated. First, the ballot was only spoken of in the Nintendo Direct that announced Mewtwo and Lucas, we haven't heard a word about it from Nintendo since then. Thus, a lot of "casuals" probably haven't voted...

I honestly don't buy the argument about the supposed casual influence. Yes, they're significantly more than the hardcore speculation community, but on the other hand, they care less, which means that they won't campaign, nor multivote, and they will probably vote for a character without thinking...

Pichu had its best chance at the end of the development of the base game, when they were choosing alts that eventually became clones. A Tetris character unfortunately seems an unviable option, unless Sakurai happens to have an huge stroke of genius. At least ROB has limbs. However, that's not to say that a Tetris stage or Assist Trophy wouldn't be absolutely amazing.

By the way, I hope people will stop asking for curveball characters just for the hell of it. If Ryu wasn't enough, now we got Cloud too. I mean, I like Ryu, and I'll probably get used to Cloud in a few weeks, but now I'd rather see newcomers people actually asked for.

Already discussed that. Assuming that the poll is a somewhat accurate reflection of the actual ballot, Cloud seems to place way too low to be Sakurai's first choice.
