EVO 2015: Melee or Smash 4?

You're drawing a false equivalence. The sequels to Melee are a very unique case. Smash brothers was never designed to be played one on one with neutral stages with competitive rulesets. Melee was very successful at this simply because it was a deep game. Brawl and smash 4 simply aren't...

EVO 2015: Melee or Smash 4?

You know, there's this really interesting mechanic in another very popular fighting game known as a Focus Attack...

EVO 2015: Melee or Smash 4?

I don't feel like that's a fair comparison when you consider there's still many MK banned tournaments, which has a huge effect on the characters people choose the main. Why would you main a character when there are going to be tournaments you can't even use them in? Anyway, is there really any...

Should Robin Williams have lived that day?

This pretty much sums it up. There's no way for any of us to know what exactly the world was like from the perspective of Robin Williams, that information isn't available to us. If I'm understanding the question correctly as "Would it have been worth it for him to continue to live his life?"...

How long did it take you to be able to wavedash L-cancel etc. consistantly

This is probably a problem everyone has (I mean, hitting people around in this game is so satisfying, it's hard to resist). What I do is either listen to music, or have a youtube video or tv show playing in the background while I practice tech like that. The thing is that learning a lot of...

60 FPS vs Game Size and Graphics/Resolution

For me it depends on the type of game it is. If it's something fast paced and requires precise timing (i.e. any fighting game, or competitive RTS or FPS games) I'd greatly prefer 60 fps. For something that doesn't really require precise timing or control, and you can take it slow (i.e. Most...

    Gamecube or Pro controller?

I was in the middle of writing something similar when this post came up. I'm surprised nobody mentioned this. It's really only a big deal if you plan to ever attend any large tournaments, but it is something to keep in mind.

    Possible Rulesets for Smash 4

Here's the problem with this 'watered down' version you've given us. Step 2a-3 all happen in melee as well under the event of being unable to follow-up, and the comboing in melee goes a lot farther than 'attack until I can't attack anymore.' This is why there's less depth by definition...

    Possible Rulesets for Smash 4

No, it's not. With walk-off's there's a horizontal threshold to overcome, and then the opponent dies. With the off-stage spike, you must overcome that horizontal threshold, and then perform the spike, and having the position to use that spike after reaching that horizontal threshold adds quite...

    Possible Rulesets for Smash 4

The difference is that falling into edgeplay normally just sets up an edgeguard situation which is very possible to come back from. Sure there's spikes, but the amount of setup that goes into that is so much greater than just knocking people off of a walk-off.

    Possible Rulesets for Smash 4

And what do you suppose is the reason it stayed banned? In brawl all there is are the shortly available walk-offs on halberd and castle siege as counterpicks, except now combos are coming back and they have even less reason to be in. I'll admit, citation needed because I can't remember the...

    Possible Rulesets for Smash 4

I'm not completely familiar with this stage, but if it's as large as you say it is, then now you have to make the choice of staying in the center and waiting until unnecessarily high damages to kill, or combo and pressure them towards the edge. Either way, the walk-off is still going to be an...

    Possible Rulesets for Smash 4

That's half the roster... Again, you make the assumption that this is a singular problem, when it has multiple issues. Issues that aren't at all matchup specific and can't be solved just by banning it when it isn't in your favor. I've mentioned a lot of them in my previous posts. You are...

    Possible Rulesets for Smash 4

The main differences are: 1. Availability 2. Difficulty 3. Risk Anything could combo out to the blast zone, not just specific moves like spikes and semispikes. With walk-offs, every move is a kill move. Thus using a walk-off for a kill is far more available than a normal combo into death...

    Possible Rulesets for Smash 4

Don't have to stand by the blast zone to waveshine, chain grab (which doesn't have to be infinite), or combo people straight into it. As I've said, walk-offs are not any kind of singular problem, they bring a lot of problems. They're far too abuse-able and become an intrusive mechanic to the...
