If the patch isn't downloaded, you can go start it up without an internet connection. Can't keep them on the wii you but if you have a capture card or want to do the low quality point a camera at the screen like I dol... you can back them up that way.

It is hard to say without knowing you or having seen you play... Lots of factors go into it. How much time can you put into the game? I know I will never be a top player for this reason alone... If I were to put in the time to become that good I would never find a new job, get to hang out with...
