Bad habits you have/had with Mr. Game&Watch

I C-stick the down smash after a down throw too much. It IS a good option but there's other things you can with it that sometimes I don't realize. I've gotten a little better at RARing, though the fair overusage sometimes shows. I also don't cancel out of the jab/Chef quick enough.

infinites and stalling tactics - tournament legal?

It seems Sirlin's stuff has been passed around the boards lately. It's often like the one and only source one needs to back up just about any arguement. Good for Sirlin! :^D I knew from reading his stuff that he has it all sorted out and helps explain the finer points of getting serious in...

infinites and stalling tactics - tournament legal?

The first fighting game I played was Street Fighter II, then King of Fighters '99. And chill, I didn't know. I read through most of this thread but I still had the thought that other fighting game tournaments would've banned infinites. I'm not a tournament person myself but I couldn't help but...

infinites and stalling tactics - tournament legal?

Why can't we just ban infinites altogether? Don't other traditional fighting game tournaments ban infinites anyway (Street Fighter, King of Fighters, etc.)? Why would an exception be given to Smash Bros. with regards to infinites? Sure, traditional fighters have the lifebars and an infinite...

Official 'Item Standard Play' Thread (UPDATE 1/15: MAJOR TX TOURNEY INFO)

As for what MorpheusGVX said earlier about elitists not accepting randomness, random factors are sometimes part of what makes players so great. Some of the greatest game players of all time have to deal with random factors, sometimes on overwhelming degrees. I watched the King of Kongs...

    Official Stage Legality Discussion

Playing in Green Hill Zone is an interesting experience! The checkpoint camping I've been seeing is annoying, but I suppose it's not too practical even if you have projectiles. All it really does is just stall, especially since you're stick in a very close area around the checkpoint. Why not...

Official 'Item Standard Play' Thread (UPDATE 1/15: MAJOR TX TOURNEY INFO)

As I said in an earlier thread, this looks like a minor league of sorts to me. This could also potentially raise up future smashers in a higher tournament scene and beyond! Why not call this a Farm System? (akin to the Farm leagues from Baseball games). I guess you could say we're planting new...

    Official Stage Legality Discussion

I made a post on the previous Stage Ban topic that went unanswered: "You know I've been wondering, why are we banning stages around broken techniques when we can just ban the broken technique itself? Like, why not just ban infinities likes Falco's so that you can play on Shadow Moses without...

~!~ UNOFFICIAL Competitive Tournament Rules - Stage Ban List *UPDATED* ~!~

You know I've been wondering, why are we banning stages around broken techniques when we can just ban the broken technique itself? Like, why not just ban infinities likes Falco's so that you can play on Shadow Moses without having to worry about it? I'm not saying we should ban the chaingrab on...

    A Thread to be Locked/Deleted

Everybody I met at the Team Ben's events had complete and total class. No 'tourney***s' or whatnot showed up. Heck, I remember viewing the thread before the '04 event and everybody was talking smack about money matches. When I went there, I didn't see any bills changing hands. This is...

    A Thread to be Locked/Deleted

I like the idea, it kinda looks like a 'minor league' of sorts. I remember going to a Team Ben's event in '04 and '05 which was kinda similar, in that it was very laid back and everybody was generally helpful to people who wanted to learn new tricks and so on.

    Frigate Orpheon: Neutral or not?

Neutral. Once people start playing this stage tomorrow and beyond and get used to it, it'll be second nature to avoid dying from the flip.

    Jump Shine - Demonstrational Video

Is it inescapable if you just constantly use the move like that near the end of the video (I guess like a waveshine)? Or can you tech out of it?

    Tripping?

Ness's down tilt (and Lucas's, though it doesn't work quite as well) have a high chance of forcing a trip. Obviously Diddy's bananas also trip. I don't know of any other moves that trip. Trips look interesting because it seems to force you out of your rhythm and it seems to affect anybody...

Questions from an amateur: how to succeed in your first tourney!

Personally I feel encouraged, now that a lot of the very tricky and hard to master ATs are gone from Melee so I can focus more on the characters without first trying to master one or two ATs that 'get you in the door' as far as competitive smashing (wavedashing, L-cancelling, etc.). I know that...
