Apparently you can spike down really fast.
It all has to do with spiking at the right time after shielding/grabbing in mid-air.
So it's advised to double jump, then shield (or grab). Video below is by me, gives you a better sense to what I mean.
How to do it: *once in mid air* Shield (Grab works too) + Down + A
After seeing the shielding/grabbing flickering animation in mid-air, that's when you have to hold Down + B to spike.
Sometimes it feels like you don't completely spike all the way down if you don't hold Down + A, but it could be just me.
It allows you to fall/spike really fast, which is good in situations that you would rather prefer to be on the ground as soon as possible. It also catches people off guard.
