What Did I Do?

There was a point in time where I was controlling their movement, but I was jumping with Nana and attacking with Nana (with A) and Popo (using the C-stick). I could only attack with Popo when I used the C-stick, but when I used the A button, both attacked. I don't think it was a desynch because it lasted a pretty long time. Sorry if there is an obvious answer. I searched and couldn't find anything.
