i played a couple sets in a 3ds tourney today, if you guys want to watch some link game play i think its pretty good since its early they're twitch vods however here they are

that dair cancelling was hilarious. That might mean that we still got airdodge zair to bombthrow in sm4sh.

To perform it press down+b when you land. It works in the demo as well.

the explanation is in the description but I can't read japanese. blubba figured out the input for the glitch. When you theter right next to the ledge Link will be given a lot of upward momentum and if you cancel the tether you will retain the upward moment and fly sky high.

You have to catch the bomb with the Dair. You can do this by either picking up a bomb from the ground by doing a Dair at the start of a jump, or by doing it next to a bomb in mid-air.

^^ No zair, and didn't know that Link's shield was functional, but otherwise there was some good stuff in there. Some of the combos in the Chibo and Majisci matches were pretty exciting. Jtails and Nairo, obviously out performed Keitaro though. Thanks for sharing this.

You need to pick up the bomb from the floor with your Dair, then input down b to throw the bomb as soon as you hit the ground.

I like the dair boomerang cancel video posted earlier. I just thought I'd help find the best example of the cancel. Jtails does a good job throughout the video of showing the difference between the regular shielding lag and the boomerang canceled lag, but I think he really starts to get it at about the 1:30 mark.

Edit: I've been trying this out some. The timing can be a bit tricky and of course it's not always easy to be able to throw your boomerang before a dair, but the few times that I've been sent airborne and pulled it off, the tech was INCREDIBLY useful for safe recovery. The only punishment they can dish out is a grapple. I wish I could get some video evidence of it in an actual match but for now all I have is my word. You guys should try it out.

Good work, Elessar. I get the impression that Link has not played much smash or at least not competitively. There were many mistakes that even I could catch on his part and I'm not too good myself. You did a great job of controlling the match though, so kudos for that. Keep up the good work and hopefully you'll have even more exciting matches to share with us soon.

1. You hardly ever use bombs. They're amazing. Use them more than your arrows. Not only are they good for damage but they give you the space you need to spam more projectiles and use those fancy techs like the one shown here: http://smashboards.com/threads/super-smash-bros-for-3ds-advanced-technique-toss-canceling.372084/
2. This goes for ALL Links here: please refrain from approaching with your Dash attack if the opponent can shield. Yessss it's stronger than ever but it's as equally as punishable. Ken: you were punished for nearly every attempt at a dash attack on ZSS and never hit her with the stupid attack the entire fight (maybe once if I forgot; it's 1AM). Recommended uses of this move: its range is surprisingly long and will catch enemies off guard who are A) recovering off-stage and B) getting up from the ground by rolling, standing, etc.. Again: don't let yourself get punished for using this move.
3. Mix up your edge game and recovery. Throw dem projectiles as you recover: bombs and boomerang primarily. When you're on the edge, do more than just roll back up or do that silly jump-arrow-edge combo (it's OK but doesn't land much and gets you nowhere but back on the edge). Instead of arrows use bombs; jump up the edge and use NAir or DAir to secure your landing.

Hope this helps, sorry if I'm a bit direct; just wanting to help. Thanks for reppin' Link; you did a great job.

Poor Hashimo just went 1-3 in those videos. I just don't understand how all of those Links were so bad with the bow and almost NEVER used the Hylian shield against stuff like the arrow or boomerang. These guys took so much damage because they weren't thinking about their best defensive characteristic. Can you imagine the way the match would go if one of them just stood there and blocked every projectile like it was nothing? Mind games must be a part of Link's matches. Otherwise, those were cool videos. Good display of how quick and powerful Link can be. Bombs could have easily helped in that Luma Match up too I think.

Most of these matches had a bit of lag during FG. The Wario one was so humiliating. I didn't do anything right in that match and he was pretty competent to begin with so it was a massacre. Most of the time my matches start with me sniping my opponent with the arrows just to force them to go on the offensive. Usually they want to start out kind of defensively, but I don't let that work in their favor very often. lol

Here is some advice as a fellow aspirating Link. Mind you I am no expert but I think I can contribute:
You sure love to dair a lot when you are coming back down to the stage. I would suggest changing it up once in a while since that move is really punishable if you whiff. You can just fast fall and do nothing or you can save your double jump to mess with people's anti air timing.

You also love to up special as a recovery and completely miss the ledge as well. Try to aim for the ledge if you are going to do that, so that the opponent can't punish since you aren't landing on the ground with that move. You can mix that up with just getting the platform and shield, use a getup attack, rolling(if they are too close to the ledge and want to punish you on the way back up), jumping on the platform and jumping away from the platform. You have all those options at your disposal.

Also pick you projectile spots a little better, sometimes you decide to want to throw out arrows right in their face which might not be the best option available for you.

Learn to use Z-air as a spacing tool especially when you have a bomb in your hand. This helps giving you more elbow room since it also drops a bomb right next to you. From there you can either try to poke them with a tilt, runaway so you can use your projectiles or punish them for doing something stupid.

Hope this helps you out a bit. Any advice about critiquing what I mention is more than encouraged. And I hope to see more matches of you improving. The more Link players, the better. Also you roll a lot which is something I would try to lessen as you get better. If you want to get a few matches in, just PM or look at my profile. I'll be posting matches tomorrow as well :D :D :D

You're right. I do need to mix it up. I'll try to put more standard fast falls and the like in my repertoire. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad time to do that boomerang cancel thing even if I do decide to dair.

Uhh... yeah, that's mostly an old habit that is taking a lot of work to reverse. His zair recovery is quite nice now so there's no reason for me to only Up+B to recover. I'll work with different getups too. I think I've always just thought I shouldn't try anything too crazy on the ledge. I suppose I won't reach the next level if I don't learn to get out of that comfort zone though, huh?

I've been told that before, but honestly when I hit someone point blank with an arrow, that's because I'm going for style points and because I know they cancel out A LOT of attacks. It's actually my favorite projectile in this game. Still, I'll cool it some and see how it effects my matches.

I actually have a hard time consistently getting z-airs to work for me in this game. I think it's my button layout. Do you use the default 'L' or something else?

Yep. Rolling is a big downfall of mine. What's a better way of moving around the stage quickly? Air dodges? Dashing? I haven't seen any advanced movement techniques for Link is sm4sh so I figured I'd roll when I just need to get some space. If that doesn't work I'll just try to down smash. It works sometimes but of course the better players don't fall for it.
