I'm just gonna drop this one because I still stand that Square Enix should toss their hat in for a 3rd Party. God knows Final Fantasy as a series has earned merit enough to be on par with Megaman and Sonic for defining what we see as JRPGs now.

But honestly if we got a FF character, I'd expect someone like Black Mage who a) is a very iconic design b) represents the series at large instead of just a game and its by products c) has more recent Nintendo ties (Mario Hoops 3 on 3 and Mario Sports Mix)

The Pokemon should have their respective debut game's capture fanfares as their victory themes (Pikachu, Charizard, Mewtwo, Jigglypuff would all have the G1 fanfare as their victory theme, and Lucario and Greninja would have the G2 and later fanfare as theirs). No reason why this can't be the case. I mean, for Brawl, they changed the Zelda victory music from an excerpt of the series theme to the jingle when one obtains a major item like a piece of the Triforce in the original Zelda. But Pokemon characters still have the series theme as their victory music as of 2015 (it works as stage music, but not as victory music).
