Useful plot starter.
To explain, it allows for a simple way for a character's personality to come through, as generally how someone behaves when they wake up can be linked to their core personality. Did they wake up late? Are they cranky? Are they still dressed in last night's clothes? Where did they wake up?
When in written form it's also a really simple, if not cliche, way of showing how a character looks, as generally getting ready would involve looking in a mirror, allowing the author a clear way to describe the character without it seeming too forced.

I would, however, agree that the Inklings do have some hentai-esque designs to them.

On the topic of Rosalina; How is a ballgown with cut-off shoulders even remotely "seductive"? When you see a ballgown, you think of formal occasions, not someone deliberately dressing to attract you to them.
