Mission Statement

With Smash 4 being a new title and many hungry players ready to improve and grow as players we have decided to bring back the Power Rankings for the State. Our goal as your panelists/leaders is to rank players within Michigan to create an accurate list that shows the growth of our scene within the rankings period. Along with Player growth the Power Rankings are used as a gauge of skill for neighboring States and other Regions so that they may seed us when we attend their events. Power Rankings have been used in an attempt to make our players get better and try to make the list as well as to achieve a higher ranking for those players who are on the list.

We, as panelists, want to inspire improvement, promote competition, and create a better Michigan Smash 4 Scene.​

Ranking Criteria

• Consistency
• Who you have beaten and lost to in brackets
• Head-to-Head
• More recent events weigh more when deciding the list
• Larger Tournaments hold more merit.
• Who you have beaten and lost to in pools, though this does not count as heavily as bracket.
• Tournament Results​

Tournament Eligibility

• For a Tournament to be considered eligible, it needs to meet two of these standards A1 or A2 and B
• A1: Has a minimum of 24 Entrants with an entrance fee of at least $5 or more
• A2: Minimum $150 Pot Size
........ Ex: Tourney has no entry fee but has a prize pool of $150 or more
........ Ex: Tourney is low price entry but pot size reaches $150 or more
........ Ex: Tourney is $5 entry but has a pot bonus pushes that makes prize pool $150 or more.
........ DISCLAIMER: Events that charge $10 Entry cannot use the $150 Pot Size Minimum
• B: The Tournament's ruleset must follow a standardization similar to past tournaments used in a ranking period.
........ Ex: 3 Stocks, Allows Custom Mii's​

Ranking Eligibility

• Live in Michigan for the full 3 month season
• Compete in SIX or more Eligible Tournaments within the Rankings period
• Of your 6 tourney minimum, 4 must be played in-state.​

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why am I not on the spreadsheet?
A: Michigan's scene is quite large and we would be unable to include everyone on it. The players we have on there right now are currently ranked or have done multiple things noteworthy. Everyone is under constant watch by the panel so if you are performing well consistently or no longer doing well you may or may not be on the spreadsheet.

Q: Why isn't "event name" on the spreadsheet?
A: This can be one of two things. One, it was never brought to our attention so it was overlooked sadly. Two, it didn't meet the requirements listed above. If you notice an event was overlooked but met the requirements please inform us and supply a bracket link or results thread.

Q: Are the players who are listed in any particular order?
A: No, players listed outside the Power Ranked Player section are comprised randomly.

Q: Will we have cool themes for each Rankings list just like the Brawl PR?
A: Of course! This is Michigan, the land that originated godlike PR images.

He's gonna need a lot more representation than just a couple West MI tournies to break top 5. The PR will represent the best that our state has to offer; meaning that they need to show that they can play above the skill level of the rest of the state. He's been to two tournaments that didn't even break 30 entrants, let alone have anyone that's placed significantly well in other areas. I'd be even more surprised than you to see him at 5th from going to events that don't even reach 30 entrants when there are players who beat people that get 1st/2nd over there and don't even make it past Round 2 Winners in tournaments over here where the number of entrants usually exceeds 60.

I'm not saying that he isn't gonna be top 5, nor am I saying that he is; but if you plan to be one of MI's top players you have to prove that you are better than the others in contention. It's not about getting 1st place, it's about who you beat along the way. You can beat 6 randoms and get 1st, that doesn't mean you are the best.

Not true, I have a lot of respect for the west MI scene; it's just we're realists. I've been all over the country and played top players in every game and I've never heard of Miloni. I've played the people he goes even with in just about every iteration of smash and to say your side is "top-heavy" isn't true. But please don't take my word for it, I remember when I was in the same position and the best part was traveling to prove everyone wrong. I made a huge splash and I hope you can too. None of us are just gonna hand out PR spots (this includes to ourselves as well) if you think you are top 5 or simply that we're underestimating you guys please come prove us wrong.

Also I encourage you to MM Rayquaza if he goes.
