Hey guys me and 4 other Victorians will be driving up arriving on thursday and leaving monday morning and we are looking for accommodation. This legendary crew includes Ignis, Extra, Astra, Deez and Leisha. If anyone can house us that would be awesome. We mainly play smash 4 but we also play melee and pm as well

I've got a crew of 4 Victorians that need housing from Thursday to Sunday night. Our main concern is housing as we are all broke as *****, if anyone could get back to me that'd be sweet. The players are myself, Xettman, Swithi and Matt2. We are farely new to the scene and are looking for our first interstate tourney to be this one. We play Smash 4 but can have a go at Melee and PM as well.

Wish I could confirm housing for some of you guys, but it's difficult to confirm anything at this point on my end. Fortunately, we have time on our side for this, so you guys will definitely have found housing within two months for sure. :)

Great to see so many of you guys coming out to this!

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT:

Official SAFGC Statement: https://www.facebook.com/events/922092641163432/976702732369089/
"Hiya Folks,

We've got one of our first huge announcements for the week to reveal today.

And that is that the Winner of Super Smash Bros Wii U, will receive a flight to the US to compete in Genesis 3 in January 2016.

The SAFGC is covering a flight to the US for the winner, once you guys touch down over in Norcal the friendly people over at Genesis Gaming will be taking care of you.

Travel to the hotel, Hotel Room, Event entry are all being taken care of by the hosts over at Genesis Gaming and we're really thankful that they're willing to show the Aussie smash players some love.

Check out the link to Genesis 3 below.
https://smash.gg/tournament/genesis-3/details

There's a few conditions for the flight.

Winner must have, or agree to have their Passport up to date and be able to travel to the USA for the event.

If the Winner can not travel, due to Passport or other outstanding issues. The flight will be awarded to the next person eligible from the results of the Super Smash Bros Wii U Tournament.

Melee Guys, if you would like to see a flight for SSBM for the event, this is something we're looking into but can't do without your support. We're working with some sponsors and our budget to see how much we can put towards a second flight but we can't do this without your help.

We'll be releasing a few methods for the second flight, in the hopes that even if you can't make SXC2K15 you can still support Australian Smash Bros by helping to send one more person to the USA in January to compete in Genesis 3.

Please let us know your thoughts, and if this is your swing to attend SXC and you need options for accommodation etc we're looking to hopefully have something in the works for you latecomers.

More to come, stay tuned!"
tl;dr SMASH WII U WINNER GETS A FLIGHT TO GENESIS 3, PAID BY SAFGC, AND ACCOMMODATION/TRAVEL ORGANISED BY GENESIS SMASH. THE WINNER OF MELEE WILL GET THIS SAME TREATMENT DEPENDING ON SPONSORSHIPS & MELEE TURNOUT (because at the moment, Smash 4 is going to be the more represented game). If it comes to it we can get some crowdfunding going for melee

More players = We get a whole other room (UniBar) dedicated for smash for the increased players = better argument for sponsors b/c of more players = We don't go into the red for funds = we have more funds for genesis flights.
The genesis guys have said that they're willing to take care of 2 people if we end up getting them there, possibly may have funds for flight contribution. Basically if we get a similar turnout to Smash 4 turnout (i'm expecting like 30-45 locals and a total of 60-70 Smash 4 players) for Melee it's within reach to get the Melee 1st placer over to G3 as well. I think there'll be about 30-35 locals for Melee at this event.

Basically the more the merrier

Yo,

I'm here to clarify some stuff.

We're looking at a lot of factors to get the funds together for a Melee flight as well, right now it's about $1500 AUD at minimum before departure taxes etc in order to send someone over.

We want to be able to support Melee, the same way we're supporting Smash 4. That's our goal, whether we meet it entirely depends on attendance and participation in Melee, along with any minor crowdsourcing we will ask for should funds not line up 100% for the second flight.

As Kai has mentioned, the Adelaide Uni Bar is a tentative booking right now pending signups. It's going to add an additional notable sum to our bottom line to make sure people aren't cramped into one room all the dang gosh darn time.

If you can't make it because of University, double check your exam dates to make sure they don't conflict. That may be a possibility for some institutions, but when booking at the beginning of this year it was thought that we had booked 1 week post University Exams.

What we would like, is to take the opportunity each year holds to make strides in not just improving our event but providing additional options for Smash to develop in Australia, including a pathway to the US for larger Q1 events over there.

Housing is going to be scare at this point, as there have been people asking for some time now and the scene probably isn't integrated enough right now for everyone to feel comfortable housing people. Give it time, take some names. Make some friends, this option should be viable in the years to come.

However we're looking at trying to strike a deal with certain hostels, in order to guarantee localization of traveling Smash & FGC people. The Cricket is on the same weekend, forcing hotel and flight prices to be a fair bit more expensive than they should this time of year and we're eating the cost of that.

If you're keen to support, but can't fly. We'll provide some options for that once we have an idea of how much additional funding is coming in from our sponsors for this. We'll post a target to meet, it 's not going to be ridiculous but we're asking for some support for that to make the most of this beginning pathway with Genesis Gaming.

I know that without certainty of a flight, It's not a 100% bonus for Melee to make their traveling efforts for this. But by coming along and supporting it, you can help ensure that there's the best chance a second flight goes ahead, and that you're there to win it.

If you have any concerns, please air them. And Kai or myself will address them ASAP.

Thanks for all your support with this, it really does mean a lot that you guys are pulling your weight and building this with us. This is a small token to return that favor and hopefully we can do more for you guys in the near future.

So at the moment I'm housing 1 person for this (Dreadtech) and can probably afford to house 2 more for the weekend (priority goes to melee homies) Spots filled
Thinking of coming to this.

What housing options are available?
Assuming you're looking for someone to practice S4 with (I don't even have a wii u ._.) best bet is probably to head over to the SA FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SaSmash/

Would it be worth altering the payout structure so first place doesnt get the cash, they get the prize instead (well maybe get their entry fee back at least) and the payouts begin at 2nd place?

It's already an extremely top-heavy payout structure I think paying first place 60% or whatever of the winnings PLUS a free flight to USA is just too excessive. I just think people would prefer it if that money is spread across say, top 6/8 so you can pay out more people instead of just throwing everything at one player.

Can SXC be a bit clearer... is this a return flight?

All the promotions of this simply say its a 'flight to usa' and the usual prefix of 'return' seems to be missing.

They're not trying to strand you in the US. LMAO imagine if they sent you there and then were like "oh what you wanted to return?"

This is what makes it just a little more confusing PrettyCoolGuy PrettyCoolGuy when Mooseking quotes looking at $1500 minimum which is indeed the cost of a 1-way flight.

If they need to raise a certain amount of funds for a second player to get to USA, why is only the cost of a 1-way ticket, referenced?

Sure it seems obvious that its a return ticket, but every formal statement on the matter has only ever hinted at a one-way trip.

Getting stranded there wouldn't be a bad deal, that way you're forced to git gud and win everything if you were planning on going back to Aus.

+1 to this.
Just move 1st place prize down to 2nd, 2nd down to 3rd, 3rd down to 4th. (60/30/10 is what's normally the case). A flight to the US is good enough, if they can't accept it it's easy enough to exchange that with the 2nd place prize.

Considering the cost for OoS players to attend this, I dont think its unreasonable for 1st place to get prize money, maybe lessen the amount 1st gets but they should probably still get something.

I hear what you're saying, but a flight to a US major is pretty huge in itself. Maybe if the winner of the flights gets like 10% of the pot or something?
Also, implying an OoS player is going to win it ;)
