I have the original 3DS so it'll have to do. I've bought a hand grip though, will probably use it with Smash for better grip.

A quick google search shows a lot of better models as well but that will have to do with me, unless it totally sucks. :p

Perhaps you should include a poll for this? Anyway's, I got the XL so I guess I'll be playing smash on that one.

Have you ever noticed how Nintendo always seems to keep releasing better handheld versions after their launch of the initial handheld. Okay, that's a bit confusing. But I mean this... With the gameboy it was first in black and white and pretty bulky. Later they released a smaller one and a smaller one that was in color. Not really a vast upgrade in my opinion, but enough that clearly the color was the better buy.

With the gameboy advance they did the same thing. Eventually releasing a smaller one (clam shell) and adding a back-lit screen. Again, their gameboy advance 2.0 was clearly superior to the first one.

Now you have the nintendo DS with was pretty bulky at first. Later they released the DS lite which was again a slightly better buy because the battery life was longer and it was smaller.

Jump forwards to today and you have the 3DS. The 3DS has a smaller screen and less battery life while the 3DS XL has the better battery life and larger screen.

So in my opinion, they keep releasing the better version a little bit after their first launch.

Anyway, all of that is totally unrelated to the fact that I will not be playing smash super hard on either one, but I got the 3DS XL for it when I do play it if I should.

I don't know if I would go calling the 3DS XL the superior version. The amin thing it has going for it is the bigger screen, whihc doesn't make a difference to me, as the battery life of the 3DS can easily be fixed if you buy a battery pack for it, and again I don't think the battery life is that much of problem but that might jsut be me. And if I'm not mistaked the 3DS has a better resolution then the XL version. Also, the XL is uncompatibal with the CPP which is another thing. The only thing the XL seems to really have over the 3DS is the bigger screen for the people who can't handle the smaller screen of the 3DS.

But anyways to answer the question, I will be playing on the regular 3DS as that is what I have. :p

To be fair though, the SP also had rechargeable batteries as well as the backlit screen, a first for its time. It was an incredible time in my childhood.

I didn't even know there was an XL. I will probably get that just because I don't like small screens. I will need to look into the price differences though. I don't currently think that 3DS has a good library. So I might just stick with the cheaper one if nothing good comes out by the end of this year. Luigi's Mansion 2, Ocarina of Time, and Starfox 64 are the only games I want. I would say Pokemon X/Y but I am getting a little tired of the same stuff year after year. I don't really want to support a franchise that is not willing adapt. So I would mostly be getting a 3DS for Brawl and classics. If the XL is significantly higher priced I will just stick with the regular one.

Really? Because I think a fair comparison would be like saying going from a micro to an SP isn't that much of a difference. You're obviously biased.

That sounds just great! I love putting a giant brick in my pocket, seeing how that'll nearly double it's width!

And if I'm not mistaked the 3DS has a better resolution then the XL version.
I've played on both (mine and my cousins) and I honestly can't even tell the difference. The difference I can tell is that my 4.88 inch XL screen does look rather amazing, compared to a screen made for . . . ants.

Also, the XL is uncompatibal with the CPP which is another thing.
That's again, false. They've made an XL CPP.

Yes, I really can't handle the fact that I can't even see what the hell I'm playing when it's 2 inches away from my face.

The XL is basically 200$ (199.99$ if you want to get exact) while the regular 3DS is like 170$, so not a big difference in price.

You call me bias yet your post is a whole heck of alot more degrading then mine. That seems like a double standard there. If I'm not mistaken the 3DS with the battery pack is not much heavier then the XL, so I don't really get that statment, correct me if I'm wrong on that. I remember reading somewhere that the XL had a bit of a lower resolution then the regular one, but not a huge difference, but it could have been something else and I am getting them mixed up, also just because you can't see a small screen good doesn't mean other people can't. >_> Last time I looked, and I don't remember it being the long ago but maybe it was longer then I thought, it still didn't have a CCP, but apperantly they do now, my bad on that one. Again just becauseyou can't see stuff on the small screen doesn't mean other people can't, I've never had a problem with screen size. I was wrong about the CCP and I admit that was my bad there, but I still don't see that the XL has enough improvements to justify getting it when I already have a perfectly capable working 3DS already. I guess people just prefer different things. lol

Thanks. That helps. I am kind of hoping for another price drop soon. I am going to make sure I buy the 3DS at the last minute. Like maybe a month or two after SSB launches. I guess if the price difference is minuscule I will just go with the XL. Seems like a better deal overall.

To each their own, I understand some people like the bigger screen and can see easier on it (like my dad) and thats totally fine. But I always found the regular size more comfortable to hold comapred to the XL version, but hey thats just me. Since you like bigger screens XL sounds better for you and by then both systems will probably be cheaper. So it works out for you both ways. :D

I'm saving up for the Animal Crossing 3DS because it looks like a pop tart and it's beautiful. But seriously though I prefer a bigger screen compared to my normal purple 3ds. Mostly from trying out my brother's XL and my hands feel more comfortable with it.

I'm trying to find a nice cheap black regular 3DS on sale somewhere - I hate the super massive pixels for the 3DS XL - Had the same issue with the DS XL as well. Big pixels work for 2D games, 3D games just look bad.

I've got a regular (Since May 2011, baby!) and it's going to stay that say. It'll play fine!

Regular.

why would i want a larger screen without a larger resolution? i don't understand why anyone would buy into that marketing ploy.

Glasses? o.o
I do have glasses. You can still strain your eyes though. Not to mention that I personally used to play the handheld consoles before bed. So I don't usually have my glasses on. That is obviously just specific to me. I don't see any relevant reason to need an HD handheld console. I mean... it is handheld. My expectations aren't too high. I don't need the highest quality when it comes to mobile games. That is why I have consoles/PC. :)

All perfectly understandable reasons. My main reason for liking the regular more is because it feels more comfortable to me, I've played on my dad's DSiXL and it just felt so uncomfortable to me with how big it was.

It doesn't need to be HD but it should at least be ... good.

I tried an XL once and it made me feel like i was using a clunky computer from the 90's

Well I don't even know now. If it is that bad I will just deal with the regular. It's screen couldn't be much smaller than the Gameboy SP.

3DS XL.

No exceptions, I don't give the slightest damn of any cons that comes with it as I'm still satisfied.
My hands are too big to hold the regular 3ds though.

I dislike it, but don't just take my word for it.
if you are planning on buying one i would research them both first and possibly try them both if you can before making a decision.

Yeah. I certainly will. As of current I am just trying to see what people think about them. I wont be getting one for maybe another year. So no rush. :)

I have an XL, but for others I would say it depends on how they're going to handle the in-game camera. If it's like the console's and zooms WAY out every time someone goes flying, I think the XL will be the way to go. Hopefully, since each player has their own screen, the camera will stay somewhat close to character.

What I'm surprised by is that there aren't any other games you want for the 3DS. >_<The 3DS in all honestly has a pretty good libary now. You say you want the 2 64 revamped ports and LM2. Going by that I can honestly say I am surprised you aren't interested in KIU, Super Mario 3D Land, two of the Mario Sport games on the go, if you never played Fire Emblem before Awakening is a great place to start. Heck I hear Monster Hunter 3 is really good also, I would get it myself if it weren't for those dang under water parts. >_>I'm just surprised there aren't any other games that intrest you for 3DS. There are probably other games that I just haven't heard of. I am really into competitive fighting games and shooters. So handheld gaming doesn't really cater to me. I also like open worlds like Fallout or Skyrim. Obviously there aren't many expansive open world games on the 3DS. I am also a sucker for those triple A titles that always disappoint me in the end like the Last of Us, Tomb Raider, or Assassin's Creed.

Now that you mention it though I have never played a Fire Emblem. My sister got Radiant Dawn or something like that. So maybe I should get Awakening. I heard it was great. Kid Icarus looks a little challenging. I watched a lets play and you have to read off to the side while you are flying around and shooting stuff. Seems iffy. I am actually a huge Kingdom Hearts fan. However, I don't have a 3DS so I never get to enjoy the series.

Maybe I spoke too soon. There seems to be an adequate library. I might even consider getting one soon. I really want to play Luigi's Mansion 2. Luigi's Mansion was my second Gamecube game. The first was Melee. I am a huge Luigi's Mansion fan. I beat that game like literally 100 times. No joke. When I heard there was going to be a sequel I pissed my pants. Then I heard it was 3DS exclusive. It just made me resentful. After waiting a decade for a sequel all they did was a 3DS version. Man I was angry. Then I heard SSB was going to be co-developed on the 3DS. I guess I will treat my 3DS like a Gamecube 2.0 or something.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe KIU is considered to be a competitive shooter for the 3DS, yes that game is pretty much a shooter game it even gets listed under that by places. FEA is great, the best FE yet and the most accesible. How does not having a3DS not make you enjoy the series of KH? KH 1, CoM, and KH 2 are all on the PS2. You have BBS on the PSP. You have Days and Re:Coded for the DS. DDD is the only one on the 3DS. Not to mention we will be getting KH 1.5 for the PS3 soon which will have KH 1 HM, CoM, and a Days movie on it and the eventual KH 2.5 that is obviously going to be coming next year. So I don't exactly get how not having a 3DS will not let you enjoy the series when only 1 game in there series is on it. o.O Also if you like JRPGs you should check out Etrian Odyessy IV: Legends of the Titan for the 3DS. There really is allot to chose from though. Not to mentio the 3DS wil lsoon be getting a new Mario & Luigi game on it. and there is even more then what I have mentioned as the 3DS he Street Fighter on it (And I hear it is rather good for the 33DS) and Baz Blue and Tekken I think, which I believe all are considered competitive fighters. The list goes on.

I don't even know. I just assumed most of the Kingdom Hearts on handheld were 3DS. I am actually new to the concept. The last thing I had was an SP. So I am not well versed in all of this stuff. I mostly game on console or PC. I was never really interested in learning about this stuff until this weekend. I had to pretty much just watch the lets plays for all of the KH games not on console. I am so hyped for KH3 though!

I'm rather outdated in terms of consoles unfourtantly, the most recent system I have is a Wii, and this is due to several factors. Handhelds are considerably cheaper then consoles and I can literally take them anywhere with me to play them. And as much as I want a freaking Wii-U and 360 and the eventual Xbone, but thats a long ways down the line for me cause if I cant afford a Wii-U and 360 right now how could I possibly afford that? So yea hand helds have to be my primary for right now.

Also KH3 for me was how LM2 was for you. When I dicovered KH3 was going to be on the PS4 AND Xbone and not the Wii-U it just felt like a slap in the face since I am a nintedno fan boy through and through. But then I had time to calm down and now due to the fact the MS got rid of all the bad things on the Xbone KH3 makes me want a Xbone even more cause I will really want the Xbone for the new Halo and Gears of War games that will come out on it, whihc is also why I want a 360 for the Halo games and Gears of War games that are already out on it. but eh, I'm starting to rmblem and go off topic so I better shush up while I am ahead. xD

I had to buy a new 3ds, and I got the regular, my eyesight is fine, and with the money saved I can get a new game. Probably kid icarus because my old copy was stolen...does anyone know if they still sell it at walmart?I am not an animal crossing fan. Fire emblem is fine on the regular. As far as the xl goes it is a money scheme. It isn't that much more expensive, but the bigger screen is their gimmick to charge a lot more

Definitely XL in my opinion. It provides better a better vision of the game and increase the details shown (to a specific scale). It helps you to see everything better than a normal 3DS, that's my personal case.

As someone who works at retail, I can tell you unless the regular 3DS is on sale it's defiantly worth getting the XL, the price is similar enough (Hell, here in NZ they are the same price) to no really make a difference, and having a XL is said to be leagues ahead of the regular in terms of experience.
