Do you think there's any chance that Professor Layton is a playable character in Brawl?
If you don't know who Professor Layton, he is the main character in a Nintendo series named after him. It is a series where you solve a variety of puzzles. It has had 3 games only in Japan for now. However, one of the games (Professor Layton and the Curious Village) is set to be released February 10th (Close to all 3 planned release dates of the game, making it good for promotional purposes.) The series has sold 12 million copies to date, and that number will surely increase as it branches into America.
Layton could also appeal to Nintendo's casual audience, and rep the DS icon (Not that there necessarily has to be one.) He would be a recognizable addition for Japanese fans, and a good WTF/promotional character for Americans.
There is live action feature film being made, based off of the series, but none of the games in particular.
