Seamless switching like that would imply that they can keep two characters (or at least, two character costumes) in memory at once from the same player slot, which as far as I know, isn't possible. That's why Zelda and Sheik can't instantly transform into each other, even if the PMBR wanted to do that (which would be awful, yet hilarious.)

There would be almost no purpose to switching mid match unless you're trying to style hard on your opponent. The only thing that could be possible would be if a taunt button switched costumes and effects, but that's just more work for no reason.

I'm not part of the video editing team (I'm a playtester), but I'm 99% sure this is correct.

They probably recorded the replay twice, first as regular Mario and second as Doc with a swapped moveset gfx and sfx.

What the engine probably does is let you assign specific sound and gfx settings to one or more specific costumes. So now you don't have to sacrifice an entire FitX.pac to change something simple like sword trail or spacie shine recolors for an entire character and their other costumes.

Possibilities:
- ASL (Alternate Stage loader) would be used in demo 3.0
- Was only for the use of the video
- Permanent change (which I highly doubt)

Actually there's a bigger picture here. They showed off at least 2 clips of single player modes, something which previously they have never supported.

For the record (IIRC), the Master Hand fight on FD uses a separate stage model than the Vs. Mode FD, so they probably made the Master Hand stage different than the normal one on purpose.

Last Tuesday we found out about the clone engine, This Tuesday we find out about the Costume engine. Whats next Tuesday? 5 or 6 player Brawls?

It just so happened that ASF1nk independently developed his own alt costume system (using a similar method that we do) some months after we did. As far as I know, however, cBliss doesn't allow using those costumes for Team Battles, which we've set up on Mario's Doctor Mario costumes.

If I had to make a Lucario alt. costume suggestion, it would be Sir Aaron's outfit from that Pokemon movie. That's really all I can think of that would fit.
