Rules for SSBB

General rules:

  • 3 Stock
  • 8 minute timer
  • Items are set to "off" and "none"
  • All sets with the possible exception of winner's finals, loser's finals, and the championship are best of 3 matches (best of 5 and above is recommended for any "finals" matches)
  • In the event of a dispute, controller ports will be selected by Rock-Paper-Scissors
  • No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon by both players.
  • In team matches, the ports will be determined in a 1221 fashion; whoever wins the RPS will choose first, then the opposing team will get their ports, and then the teammate of the RPS winner will get the last port.
  • If the timer runs out, the victor is determined first by stock and then by percentage.
  • Metaknight's Infinite Cape glitch is banned.
  • If a game ends with Bowser doing his suicide klaw and it ends in sudden death, the sudden death will be ignored and that game will count as a win for Bowser.
  • You are responsible for your own controller and name tag. Any malfunctions or errors that occur are your responsibility, so bring an extra controller if possible and always check to make sure you're using the correct settings BEFORE a match is played. If a match is to be restarted due to controller functions, it must be agreed upon by both parties.
  • Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects.
  • Stalling is banned.

Stalling: The act of deliberately avoiding any and all conflict so that one may make the game unplayable. Running away from an opponent to reach a better position is not stalling, while doing an infinite grab endlessly against a wall is. Any infinite chain grabs most end quickly after 300% has been reached so as to prevent excessive stalling.

Could you possibly make this a week later? Like on the 31st? I'd actually have a chance of going to this if it was a Saturday.

Also 23rd is a Friday

I'm aware the 23rd is a Friday... the building is booked on Saturdays. I'm all busied out the weekend of the 31st anyway. If you miss out on this one and this turns out to be a biweekly thing though... you can certainly come then!

Original post edited. It starts at around 4. You're welcome to come later, as we'll likely be at it all night.

If you decide to hold a tourney, there's a very strong chance that a car load of people from OUGA may attend.

It's not that I don't want to go if there's no tourney, it's just that it's too far away for me not to go if there isn't one.

I totally understand. I'll take note of the number of people that will come if there is a tourney, and the number of people that will come regardless. When I get a good estimate of the numbers in a few days, a decision can be made. About how many is a "carload"?

Oh, and I've got the address.

yo is this **** melee or brawl

or both?
As of now, I'm saying just Brawl. However, things are subject to change. We could even dedicate a setup for random games OTHER than Smash. Naruto, DBZ, Street Fighter, MvC, whatever. It's all about what you guys want. Keep giving your input, guys; it will determine how this event will run.

His car load is a max of 4.

Though maybe some of the others might go as well.

I'll go if there is a tourne for sure, its not too far form me but I might go visit OUGA that weekend if they decide not to come up.

If I do come I can bring a setup (TV plus Wii and games) that can play Brawl or Melee.

Okay then... let's see what we've got so far...

If I add in Melee and a tourney...

So far we're looking at about 19 people based on what you guys have said and the people I've talked to outside of smashboards.

Melee is yes, Tourney is almost certain (entry fee to be determined), OP updated.

If anyone has some sort of reccomendation on an entry fee, or if someone has any of that software that makes brackets easy, don't be shy.

Sounds good to me, I'll check this thread at least daily.

And like Keist said, I can bring 4 people total (counting me) unless it's like three really skinny people in the back or something. At this point in time I can't guarantee those numbers, since it is on a Friday and they may have classes before after 2 PM (how long we would need to make it by around 4).

Remember, coming late is no problem.
If you can say when you think you could make it, that would be good. The tournament certainly won't start immediately at 4... we'd play friendlies for quite a while.

It's doubtful that Pdiamond and I will come to this unnamed tournament due to circumstances I cannot and will not speak of. If we do happen to come, prepare for possible doubles ****.
Zelda + Kirby, Zelda + D3, Zamus + Kirby, Zamus + D3, Pit + Kirby , Pit + D3 are TOO GOOD.
Don't underestimate us, as we've improved immensely since Landcaster Landmasters.

People I'm hoping will come:
  1. T-800: You main Sonic for reals now? All of Sonic's approaches are super obvious, and you can usually attack Sonic as if you were in training mode. (His priority is terrible.) Remember, Down+B isn't too fast to be punished.
  2. KBRO?: Will you be coming? If so, I'd like a rematch. This time I've played the game for more than a week.
  3. The Kiest: I've had more than enough Kirby experience to not fall for Kirby's trickory.

Here's my faux blog concerning my month with smash and more importantly, Zero Suit Samus.

Coming late would likely be a problem if we have an actual tournament with actual structure. Of course, this is dependent on the ammount of expected attendees.

Smashfests in Ohio are rather spread out, and there's no clear option for those in or near Columbus. I was sick of this, so I'm fixing it. I'm putting together a smashfest and tournament that will hopefully happen every 2 or 3 weeks.
first off not True! Springfield is close for all! (except Cleveland)

Secondly a smashfest sounds fun but a venue fee for one is going to turn away some if not most of the Springfield attendance. A tourney on the other hand would be good and you can expect at least 4-5 of us coming up for sure.

I would consider G&W my primary main, but I'm seriously working on Sonic as much as I can and plan to someday (maybe this one if I go to it) try him out in a tournament.

I love playing as him in spite of his flaws, and I seriously think I can win with him, although to what degree is to be determined.

I'll flesh out more details throughout the week, including a starting time for the tournament. For instance, if people start letting me know when they can get off classes and the projected time they can arrive, I'll know when to start.

Also, you're trying Zelda out? Nice! :D

Not trying, my Zelda/(>)Shiek and Pit are fantastic now. In fact, I may use Zelda or Pit against match-ups like Falco or Ice Climbers, an area where ZSS struggles.

Also, didn't you say in the OP that the starting time is 4:00 PM?

Just when I thought you were done with Pit XD

Well, I guess I never specified that 4 would be when the doors would open and FRIENDLIES and such would start. The tournament would likely begin a little after 5, but if enough people in this thread complain, it'll be pushed back a bit. Sorry about that. OP updated again.

It seems that OUGA will be there as well.

As of now its 4 total including myself.

Do you want help with the tournament runnings again? Or does Alpha or someone else want to (I still don't have TIO and prolly won't have time to learn it before this tourne)

I will be bringing a setup and my Dazzle to record all the matches that happen on my setup as well.

Any form of help would be appreciated, and seeing as you're the first person to offer, you definately can.

Also, something I also forgot in the first post: If you have a setup, you're welcome to get here to set it up as early as 3:00. If you do not have a setup, just arrive as early as 4:00 for friendlies by 5:00 for the tournament.

Updating OP with that information.

I'll probably come if Hence were to come...

How many stations do you already plan to have?

I could possibly bring a set-up if I were to come. (TV, Wii, Brawl, Capture Card, and Laptop)

So far, we have about 4 CONFIRMED (not enough, but we've got almost two weeks) But I have no idea how many people intend on bringing their own. I'm going to make a list wednesday of everyone that is, and update it every day until the 23rd.

I'm aiming for 10. Or more. Again, we'll see.

The tournament now has a name! Unless it's unanimously hated, the tourney will be known from now on as the Super Funtime With Extra Sunshine Tournament. Though I can't imagine anyone hating the name.

GOD, I FREAKING HATE SUNSHINE AND HAPPINESS. GRRRRRR!
Honestly, we need a new tournament name. 'Smashing the Cove' has been suggested, and it sounds loads better imo. >.>
If anyone has ideas, feel free to suggest something.

Until then, the tournament has been placed on AiB. If you have an AiB account, make sure to click "I am attending this tournament" to give us a bit of a foresight into the number of expected attendees.

Clearly TheKeist doesn't.

Also, I'm first and foremost using posts in this thread as the basis for how many to expect. Until the start of next week, I'm not going to put ANYONE down under "confirmed" unless they are absolutely sure, because things can change in the span of a week.
