I just fought Izaw online...and won!
After that he wrecked me about 4 times as sheik XD. But when he finally brought out his link, I had to leave in the middle of the match :(

Lzaw seemed to have a habit of short-hop approaches. Short-hop fair, short-hop nair, and so on. These are very safe approaches for Shiek. However, make it difficult for the short-hop approach by doing a short-hop strawberry. "Zone High" when the opponent is jump happy, and force them back onto the ground.

Strawberry in particular falls to the ground at a good arc, not too steep (unlike Apple), not too shallow (unlike Orange). Its excellent for this sort of "short-hop" happy opponent.

On the stage you're on, use a wall-jump before using side-B or your double-jump. It gives you more options as you climb back up to the ledge.

Your first "kill" was lzaw's mistake. Just making sure you know :-(

At 1:49, you connected with a short-hop fair, punishing lzaw. You should have followed up with an up-smash, which typically combos from that height.

At 4:20 or so, you grabbed Shiek at 160%. Pac-Man's kill-throw is back-throw. You probably didn't need to rack up any more damage.

Use Melon to beat out Sheik's needles on the ground.

It appears that you don't use Pac-Man's up-air very often. Learn how to use it, especially when the opponent is jumping high and comming down on you. Its got a great hitbox.

I believe the key to defeating sheik is to overwhelm her with out fruit and hydrant. Our fair into nair combo also works really well, and our nair breaks us out of her combos about 80% of the time. We just need to keep the pressure on, while not getting too close.
Anybody want to critique? No johns, but I kinda got nervous in both matches because I was so shocked that I ran into Izaw lol.
I noticed you gave up neutral a few times to him which gave him more options to keep you off stage and rack damage. He loved to jump and spam f-air and n-air, but he was open underneath to u-air multiple times. U-air has very low lag for a short hop, and he would of fell into it multiple times. Even if he air dodged, you would of been able to react. I found that you tried to force hydrant launches where it was easy to see it coming, putting it on cooldown and leaving yourself exposed.

You did well charging in the air, as he was very aggressive, however I did find that you charged at some odd times that could of been spent with a follow up. ~1:58 was an example of this. Other options could of been hydrant or up-b at the ledge, forcing sheik upwards, leading to an u-air or back throw on landing which should of killed at that percent.

All in all, it was a good set, just some small changes and you should of won both rounds. Also regardless of who you are facing, don't let a name throw off your game.

@ Nu~ Nu~ I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit jealous of you right now. As a Link main I look up to Izaw, and as a Pac-Man secondary I wish I could have been the one to have that matchup to show off. lol I think I'll have to share it over in the Link board, just for fun (if that's ok with you).

At round 2, at the 1:50 mark, at those percentages after dashing A, i would have gone for a side B. Probably could have gotten you the killer earlier.

I'll use this as a transition for my match as I happen to use the side B super crazily and I think its very interesting.

Edit: This is post number 10 so I had to wait till i posted it to post the video.

I really like the creative use of the side B!
Just don't use it too much, you wanna keep them guessing when you're using pac-man

ya on second view of the video...I was like wow... I really used that a bit to much. I remember when I first started it was nothing but apples...Then melon felt awesome. Then side B for killing. I'm really feeling it man. Even that trick with pacman melon into hydrant you can cover a lot of angles. I'll see if I can get it on video. but basically I dropped a hydrant which went flying horizontally, then threw the melon to just fly above where the hydrant doesn't reach, then i did pacman side B to angle just above the melon if the opponent decided to jump or dodge all that. Pacman is getting crazy that he can make a wall of hurt and send it to you.

Finally got on video what I was talking about in the last post about hydrant, melon, and side B...although not exactly the same way as I said in post but A variation of it. (I was fighting an opponent who saw it all day so i was mixing it up)

The bowser match, two things stood out to me. You only used Key, and you roll way too much. You did use the Hydrant effectively, but you were also very quick to use up your double jump leaving your responses to a Hydrant break limited to basically air dodge or Up-B.

The ZSS match. Instead of avoiding the hydrant, you threw fruit at it? This does not stop the hydrant. You can cancel with a roll or shield to avoid the damage while charging, then follow up their dash with the fruit. When they started spamming stun shot, you could of used apple to attack from an angle while they recovered from end lag. You also seemed to force the hydrant breaking a bit too much, making it predictable. You did punish the stun shot tether grab effectively

The Pac ditto, you did fine, they kept using Side-B and you punished it just fine. You can hydrant the side b recovery though to gimp the super armor. You tended to go high to approach just about every time. They picked up on it and started getting you badly, finishing you with that up-smash. You also let him get back too easily, you have the same recovery, do not be afraid to gimp a fellow Pac-man, as you have one more tool to recover they don't if you gimp it right. Start learning to use Hydrant as an edge guard tool is my strongest suggestion from this fight.

The Charizard fight, you again rolled way too much. Rolls should not be used as movement. You got caught by Flare blitz several times because you rolled as opposed to blocking it with Shield. You can cancel fruit charge with Shield too, keep this in mind. You seemed to immediately double jump while recovering, again limiting your options coming down. This is a nasty habit to have. It is ok to be below stage as Pac-man, his recovery is awesome. This player in particular was waiting for you to make moves and hit you on the end lag. They also rolled a ton. Not to seem like I'm piling it on you, but again, you let them get back too easily. Pac-man is great off stage, dare I say his strongest area.

My biggest suggestions would be the following. Practice offstage recovery and edge guarding. Avoid using Double jump too much. Relax on rolling and remember that walking allows you many more options then a roll does. Things you are doing well, are hydrant mix ups, effective f-tilt punishes, and you have good timing on grabs.

Ahhh sorry for double posting but i figured its worth it. Someone else mentioned abadango had new matches (or in my opinion new to me and i haven't seen them posted.)

:4pacman: vs. :4sheik:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BzD7gy5E2g&list=UUpu15uRsvI2opP78cdslj3A

This is an extremely crazy match. One thing I notice pacman does is instant nair at the very beginning of the jump so that it ends in the air and have enough time to do a fair and another short hop. wow. haha.

edit 2: Same pacman and i think different shiek...also crazy

For Sonic, you really tried to force Side-B a bit too much. You also tried to force hydrant breaks a bit too often as well. He picked up on it and easily avoided most of them when he wasnt opening himself up. I did take note that you threw out some moves almost randomly to try to trap him,. This would work occasinally, but you did it a ton, you were punished multiple times when you tried to Throw. This Sonic used down air way too much leaving some easy punishes for you. On your first kill, you immediately hopped off stage, which is very bad position to be in. I did make note that your first death seemed to be issues recovering with Side-B, it seemed you were avoiding aiming for the edge. Sonic noticed this and started using bair to knock you into the stage. They learned to avoid your hydrant and Fsmash it, knocking into you when you fast fell. This sonic seemed to have some discomfort with their own moves, which led to some easy punishes for you. My biggest notes from this fight, would be less Side-B on stage, but practice off stage use for recovery, avoid randomly throwing attacks out, especially throw. You did use Up-b well to control the stage, and you also punished well when they made mistakes.

For Villager, throwing out Side-B almost got you killed in the beginning. You tried to force hydrant breaks too often, and villager was more then ready for it. They also knew how to launch it when they grabbed it. Which they used repeatedly, best example of this was ~4:45. They also knew how to gimp you off stage, though the execution was a bit poor. I did make note that you let them back on too easily. When ballons come out, it is basically a free hydrant hit. There were a few times where you were hit, and you would immediately Side-B, and get punished, ~2:10 you looked to have done it 3 times in a row. You rolled too much as a reaction to villager doing anything. You did very well punishing their Side-B with Up-smash. You made good use of Up-B again, but Villager was able to get around it much better. My suggestions are work on edge guarding a bit more, take it easy on Side-B and rolls, and also avoid forcing hydrant too much.

Overall, your play style is good, you react well, and can punish effectively. I personally feel you are using Side-B a bit too much, and need to practice your offstage game a bit more, also easy on the rolling.

Library News!

We now have 50 videos in the library, and they are all for the 3DS version of the game. I can't wait to see how this takes off in just under two more weeks. :)

I've been meaning to ask you guys... would you like for your critiques to be compiled somewhere? If so, how would you like it to look? I was thinking that I could have it like this...
Each player will have their part look similar to this. If you had multiple critiques I'd probably just have them fall below the first one.

I thought this might be a nice thing to add, but I'm not sure where it should go if you guys want this. This will take a little extra work on my side, but it might be worth it if you guys think you'll use it.

I was also thinking about creating a sort of Player progression section. It would be either the idea above or this one. I don't think I have time to do both. But here's what I was thinking it might look like: Basically, it would look like the section above, only I would just show a link to your first video and your most recent video (maybe another will be included every few months or so as well, but most likely just the oldest and most recent so you can see your progress most clearly).

That's not a bad idea! I wouldn't like for the critique to be piled somewhere, I'd LOVE to. The player progression section ain't a bad idea either, and I'd find it a good way to show much someone's playstyle is evolving because of this thread, and maybe attract a few new Pac Players and encourage them to come here and join the party.

Sorry for double post, but I've got a new batch of videos in need of critique again, especially on matchup knowledge. Unfortunately I still haven't yet fixed my problems @ Firedemon0 Firedemon0 mentioned: Still roll too much, double jump too much, and have occasional difficulty edgeguarding. However, I like to think I've at least made slight improvements in other areas...

So I have not posted videos in awhile because I wanted to get some matches that were not FG. We could use more tournament videos at this point. More with platforms too! I wanted to show how effective Pac-man is against Shiek. I did not get very far in this tournament sadly. SD's on Prism tower got me out of winners, and I fought a decent Sonic, but forgot to record the loss, very good sets. http://challonge.com/PPSTwo

Very good sets indeed! I nearly fell of the arm of couch watching all 3, very hype matches you got there, I could learn a lot from you. I know I suck at :4pacman: and I haven't improved much in my newest videos, but if you'll let me say something anyway, I find something sort of funny about those videos: For someone who told me I roll too much and that I should relax on it, you seemed to have done quite a few rolls yourself in those matches. Saw a lot of dash attacks coming from you too, and was with the trampolines on the jiggly puff match (like when she was hanging on the ledge once)? Isn't she already an excellent air fighter who's best at approaching from the air? What can a trampoline to do her? Again, I still am lackluster and you're better than I am, but I thought I'd point it out anyway. ggs nonetheless.

I think you are referring to Arena with Sheik? That was nerves getting me to be honest. Other cases, it was to chain dash attacks. because of the fast delay and lack of the knowledge match up, I got a few good hits because of my quick chains. I see it as movement too, I caught Sheik on Battefield chasing me with a reverse forward tilt as they were expecting another dash attack. It was part of conditioning. As for the rolls I did make out side of that, excluding my nerves in Ferox, it felt safe at the time and a bit reactionary, others it was just to turn around and have some space to react.

As for the trampoline, I was using up-B 3 for this tournament and wanted to test baiting with it. (If you recall with Sheik on Battlefield, this actually worked, though I accidentally dashed attacked when I wanted to Smash.) used it to slow down his air game. I also quickly noted that this Jigglypuff did not retreat on air attacks and started shield grabs and dash to up-smashes.

My own critques were that on ferox I did roll a ton. I also want to be more consistent on my inputs. Some were smashes that should of been tilts and some should of been tilts that should of been smashes. I had some nice mix-ups, but needed to time my orange tosses a bit better next time.

People were asking for Link match up help. I broke my self rule of avoiding For Glory games, but I figure that is where people have issues with him. Five videos of Link fights, the last one was super super lazy, and was just practicing avoidance. These will also be my last videos on 3DS. I have actual streaming/video recording equipment for my Wii U.

So, Abadango has a First To (FT) 10 with a little mac

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVQJvQlyZwc

Now, of course only playing omega stages will help Mac a lot, but Abadango only won...2 matches?

Would any of you say he was doing something wrong? What should he have done instead? Is Mac a bad MU for us? Or is FD really playing a huge role in this?

I'll start with yes to the last question, because most of Komorikiri's KOs came from catching Abadango's landings, an option that wouldn't be as prevalent on a stage with platforms. With proper controls, Abadango probably could've had more success with pulling off more gimps when he got Mac offstage.

Would appreciate others' input, because smart Mac play is a problem when you're got a grab that has as much risk as ours.

Hey guys, I have uploaded a heap of videos of my Pac vs. various characters. If you could all take the time and give me some tips, that would be appreciated. I do realise that in a lot of the videos, I use a lot of side-b. I have started to break this habit as you can tell because I barely use it in the Mega Man and Rosa videos, which are the most recent.

So, here they are, listed by character

I've added all videos up to this point and also went and found a bunch of videos of @Abadango

I'm sure we'll start seeing more and more Wii U videos soon but if you're like me and only have the 3DS version, I encourage you to continue doing work with what you have. I'll happily keep adding and viewing those videos as well.

By the way, the Wii U version isn't even available worldwide yet, but we already have close to 90 videos in this library. That's outstanding guys! Keep up the great work!

@ Lord Cruxis Lord Cruxis - I just added a progression profile for you today and found that you have received the most attention so far from critiques. So, do you have any new videos to share with us of your improvement so far?

The match total was 4-10. Thats not to bad. Things I noticed was that when he did get little mac off staged and little mac was doomed, Abadango forgot to take his trampoline away by making a new one and thus saved little mac and lost a match over it :X. But overall its the same frustration I have with little mac, although I did not think of using the trampoline the way he did haha.

Ok, first off, screw Yoshi.

I mess up some Breversals (if you see me randomly throw a fruit the wrong way, it's probably a missed Breverse) and I could see my stress at some points, but I think I played fairly well. I don't think I used hydrant as an attack enough though, and I need to work on my aim with my keys. All critique is welcome.

I could definitely use some advice on hitting with the bell. That's the hardest for me.

I really shouldn't have lost the first Pac Man game. I messed up a Breverse key that probably would've KO'd.

Pretty good matches. The only thing I can say is that I personally feel that, considering the slow start-up time of them, that you are using his grabs too frequently. Granted, there has been several times when it worked, but when it didn't, well... it left you vulnerable. That is all.

I find I am able to land bell easier when I can bait a low air dodge into ground and get them when they land, closer to point blank range. Less dashing, and less likely to miss or not get there fast enough. As for the fights themselves, I personally think you did fine. Forced bell a bit too much, also Key accuracy was a thing. I saw some issues breaking hydrant too.

You did well nailing him with Orange, he tried to change up what he was doing, but you were pretty much in charge of the fight. You seemed to have some minor trouble killing. I think that may of been more because of Yoshi, but Side-B is not a bad option, this player liked to air dodge on the way down, so your aerial chases whiffed where Up-smash/ a well led Side-B could of been a better option. So Mind games into killing blows, and more bell practice would be the only major suggestions I have.
