Rules & Eligibility

Season 5 Power Ranking Rules (August 1st -September 27th)
Tournaments that do not fall within these rules will not have their results counted.

Minimum # of matches to qualify for the PR: 15

  • It’s difficult to accurately rank someone if he/she has only a few matches to go off of. This number may seem high, but most of our competitive players will easily exceed this number within this season’s eight week timeframe.

  • The average number of matches played by a Season 4 PR player was 42.9 over the course of ten weeks.
Stocks: 2 or 3

Time: 6:00 for 2 stocks or 8:00 for 3 stocks

Customs: Off

Miis: 1111 + Default Size Only or Banned

Acceptable Stages (You may have as many or as few of these stages as you want as long as you have at least Battlefield, Smashville, and FD):

Starters

  • Battlefield/Miiverse (Attached to each other for bans and strikes)

  • Smashville

  • Final Destination/Omega Palutena’s Temple (Attached to each other for bans and strikes)

  • Lylat Cruise (can be moved to Counterpicks)

  • Town & City (can be moved to Counterpicks)
Counterpicks

  • Dreamland

  • Halberd

  • Delfino Plaza

  • Castle Siege

  • Kongo Jungle

  • Duck Hunt

  • Omegas (attached to FD for bans)

Other Rules

  1. Gentleman’s Agreements to illegal stages (such as Skyloft) are not allowed.

  2. Dave’s Stupid Rule (In order for you to go back to a stage that you’ve already won on earlier in the set, your opponent must agree to allow it) is optional.

  3. All rules regarding suicide moves are completely up to the TO, and they must be clearly written in the tournament’s ruleset.

  4. For brackets, you must be able to record game numbers (whether a match went 2-1 or 2-0 should be recorded). Exact game counts will now be considered for the PR.

  5. If a player is disqualified for any reason during a tournament, make sure that the DQ is recorded appropriately on the bracket.

  6. Money Matches of at least $5 that follow all of the relevant rules above will be counted towards the Power Rankings.
If any ambiguous situations with rules arise, please contact a panelist to see if/how it will affect the PRs. The panel reserves the right to not count any matches that occur under unusual conditions (even regarding things that weren’t explicitly mentioned here).

How They Were Made:
  • The seasonal leaderboard (generated by SkillKeeper) was used as a baseline for singling out the top 15 or so players.
  • The panel then viewed wins/losses between those top players and determined the final top 10 based on which players had better quality wins and fewer bad losses.
