It's a Journey > Destination thing. For example, in Pokemon Y when you get Lapras as part of the story the one I got was Shiny. I know the odd are 1 in 4000 or so but I really seemed like 1 in a million.

Event shinies, not as cool.

Seems like Tri-force heroes is going for a more deliberately goofy look. Makes sense, as "horror" games made during the co-op boom showed us that srs story co-ops don't work because players keep doing silly stuff.
