Here are some new friendlies of me playing a Marth. Just looking for an honest opinion on tips, critique, and comments. This thread also shows a history of my playing styles and improvement over the course of five months.

Match one: I apologize for the SD.
Match two: Apparantly a fast Link works better against Marth on Yoshi's Island lol. Need to watch those ledge hops since it comes up at a wierd angle.
Match three: Don't know why I was playing so bad on the first stock. Oh well, who cares. The last two kills were awsome.
Match four: I think the Marth was having an off match.

Dthrow -> Dair = best way to kill marth

otherwise ur real creative and solid, which is how link has to be played. keep it up

dude nice like real strong on the ground. But i hate to say it your not good at edge gauring your letting all these people live up to 140% or higher. Thats not good, you should'nt do all these unnessecary things like throwing a bomb or boomerag off the stage at them because generally you miss and get hit with there recovery. just get on the edge and upB them. esspecially when your playing a fox that doesnt sweet spot the edge. you can kill him at one digit percents if you play your cards right or he messes up.

Chip, you need to keep your f-airs better spaced out if you're going to approach with them. They're great to combo and such, but something like Marth's dash attack, n-air, or grab could penetrate better. Try grabbing a bit more, Marth has an awesome grab quick grab, and try to convince Link to approach you every once in a while (I know, easier said then done right?).

He's just constantly standing there torturing you with boomerangs and bombs waiting for you to attack. Shield what you can and make a dash for it in his openings, and then fake out with a Wavedash or do whatever. Also, grabbing the ledge can be an effective way to make Link make the first move (I hate when this is done to me). Once Link starts making approaches, you can f-smash him, nair him, or shield grab more easily.

EDIT: 99% of the time, F-smash will be your best edgeguarding move. Don't go for the spike unless it's from a combo or if you're facing some super floaty character like Jigglypuff or Peach

I heard you could cancel out of link's dair and tried to make it happen in training mode, nothing I did worked. But in the Yoshi's island match you managed to cancel it, could i ask you how?

^^

To cancel the dair, you need to be moving towards the edge of the platform. As long as you L-cancel the dair, you should slide off the platform cancelling the lag from the attack. It won't work unless you're moving towards the edge of the platform. I actually did it by accident on the Yoshi's Island match.

.....? :ohwell:

Thanks Problem2, I've touched up on my Marth recently. And again, I don't practice with Marth that much, just enough to be moderate.

All I can say is be more patient with your spin attacks. A lot of the time you went straight for the UpB, and all Marth had to do was wait to punish it. I'm not saying wait for them to start getting up, but maybe put a beat in there to make them think they can.
