Matchup Chart Project 2015 - Calling King Dedede Mains!

Hello King Dedede boards,

I'm Zareidriel. Over in this thread a guy called Assassannerr made a matchup chart, and asked people to help fill it out. It seems like it would be a cool thing to have. With once glance you could have a rough idea of a matchup. It won't be perfect, but for our first go at it in 2015 we're aiming for "somewhat functional."

So here's what I'm going to do. Go to every Character Discussion board, and ask the folks there if they wouldn't mind contributing. To submit one vote, you'll have to fill out one of these:

Mark each character with a - for a match where King Dedede HAS THE DISADVANTAGE
Mark each character with a number 0 for a match you feel is very even.

NOTE THAT I AM ONLY TAKING VOTES FROM MEMBERS WITH King Dedede IN THEIR PROFILE BAR. It can be as either "Wii U Main" or "3DS Main". But if King Dedede is in neither one of those slots when I count the votes on Friday, Nov 13, it won't be counted.

(Yes, for the avid democrats out there, that means you can vote for one other character as well.)

Like I said, they won't be perfect, and each board will probably be a little biased toward their own respective character. But the results should be interesting regardless.

If this thing is successful maybe we'll do a revised version in 2016.

Wow, my opinion of the D3 MUs have become a lot more optimistic, and that's not sarcasm and that's sorta really crappy.

Kinda curious why you guys think Dedede loses to Zelda. Not saying I completely disagree, but...rather skeptical of it at the same time.

Not sure if you really want my reasoning behind this, but it pretty much boils down to: Does this character force Dedede to approach? Can they zone him out from a distance? What do they do to limit his mobility and/or stage control options? Does Dedede lose neutral, or have a weak advantage state? It's just a rough idea though and I might reconsider some things later. That said (and this is assuming no customs):

Personally I think it would be more worthwhile to get an idea of the, uh, degrees of +/- of an individual match-up. Some characters like Roy are only a slight disadvantage for Dedede, while others (ZSS, Mega Man, Sonic) are -- or maybe even ---. That's just my opinion though, since I realize this is a "rough" idea.

I was really tempted to just say we beat Zelda, but thinking about it, I'm not sure that we're terribly great at exploiting her weaknesses. I don't think we outright lose to her, but I wouldn't be shocked if it turned out to be even.

Interesting things to note:
• We have no matchups that had a unanimous +
• Matchups with a unanimous - are Diddy Kong, Fox, Pikachu, ROB, and Sonic
• Matchups that had a large difference in opinions (at least 3 + and - each) are Mr. Game and Watch, Kirby, Palutena, and Mii Brawler. (Maybe discuss these matchups? That is quite a big split in opinions)

Can someone who has experience with the MU go into detail about why they think Dedede beats Mewtwo? I just don't see it. "Being light" isn't a good enough answer.

his aerials are quite fast and long, it's all a bait and punish thing, but you must be really careful

his upsmash is vulnerable to a well timed fastfalled nair, and the same goes for the nair and sometimes the bair, but DDD's big hurtboxes are a pain in the ass

For me it's a 50:50

Mewtwo has some good stuff on Dedede, you're right. And you're also right on the fact that weight should not decide a MU. However, when I can consistently take your stock at under 50%... That's just bad for you. Especially when you can't even dream of killing me until at least over 100%. I could go further, but is it really that necessary?

It's not totally onesided on D3's favor, but it absolutely is in his favor, have no confusion.

I'm gonna admit I haven't played a *good* Mewtwo, or very many Mewtwo players at all, so at lot of my opinion is based in theory but...Mewtwo kinda suffers from similar issues that Dedede does. He's a big target, and while Mewtwo's mobility isn't bad he's slow in a lot of areas that matter, so if a character gets in on you it can be hard to get them off of you, and you can be combo'd and juggled somewhat more easily thanks to your size. But unlike Dedede, Mewtwo is a light weight, and that IS a significant factor, you're easy to hit AND you die early.

It's not just the weight, it's that weight in conjunction with Mewtwo's other issues that make him underwhelming. I'm not really seeing what Mewtwo does to Dedede that would tip the match-up in his favor. There's certainly things he can do, just by nature of Dedede's design, but how would it be Mewtwo's advantage? At best it would be an even match-up IMO.
