Smashed, Mashed & Broken Tournament: Project M Edition

Fees(Singles): $10.00 ($5 Venue + $5 Pot)

We will be hosting three games during this tournament. If you wish to participate in all tournaments you only need to pay an additional $5 towards that game’s pot resulting in a $20.00 total. You do NOT have to participate in all tournaments.

Fees(Doubles): $20.00 Per Team ($10 Venue & $5 Pot)

Double will only be hosted if enough people request it. Otherwise this will remain a singles tournament.

Schedule: Registration – 6PM / Tournament – 8PM

Official registration begins at 6PM for all tournaments. Participants may play casuals at the tournament table once they have their wrist band until the beginning of the tournament. Once the event ends all participants are allowed to play casuals and friendlies until closing.

Prizes: Winner - 70% - Second - 20% - Third - 10%

Percentages are based off of total pot. Amount of pot is determined by the number of participants.

Controllers: BYOC

This is a bring your own controller event. If you require a controller we will be able to supply Wii Motes + Nunchucks and Gamecube Wavebird controllers at the counter.

Tournament Rules

Locate the rule set for the game you plan on participating in the day of the tournament. Please read the rules carefully! I am sure that neither myself nor anyone else will want to put up with any complaints the day of the tournament. Understanding these rules are the responsibility of the participant. Our rules are set into place so there will be no misunderstandings and/or grievances later. These rules will be printed and posted on the table on event day.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Project M Rule Set

1-on-1

• Matches are played best 2 out of 3. Finals are played best 3 out of 5.
• Double Elimination.
• Each match is played with timed stock, 4 Stock and 8 Minutes
o If both stock and percentage are identical, or a game ends with both players being KO'd simultaneously (typically because of a Sacrificial KO via Bowser's Flying Slam or Ganondorf's Flame Choke), then a tiebreaker is played. A tie breaker is a 1 stock, 3 minute match with the same characters and the same stage.
• Items are turned off.
• Buffer is set to off.
• For the first match, characters are chosen double-blind - at the same time, so that neither player knows his opponent's character beforehand. In practice, this rule is often ignored, but players always reserve the option to force a double-blind pick.
• Stalling is banned. (Stalling is defined as any action that deliberately avoids all conflict as to make the game unplayable. Running from an opponent to get to a better position is not considered stalling, but using chain grabs infinitely against a wall beyond 300% or using Sonic's Homing Attack repeatedly underneath the stage is.)
• Some interactions (for example, interrupting a throw with a wind attack) can cause one character to become frozen until being hit. If this happens, the free character is expected to capitalize on this in a timely manner; a failure to do so is considered stalling.
• Any action that prevents the game from continuing results in a forfeiture of the match for the offender.
• Controller ports are determined by Rock-Paper-Scissors if there is a dispute.
• You are responsible for your own controller and name tag. Any malfunctions or errors that occur are your responsibility (including battery issues with a Wii Remote), so bring an extra controller if possible and always check to make sure you’re using the correct settings BEFORE a match is played. Both parties need to agree if a match is to be paused or restarted because of these problems.
• In the event that the game crashes or the TV/Wii loses power in the middle of a match, that match will be restarted from the beginning with the same characters and stage. If a player uses a known glitch to intentionally crash the game or otherwise make it unfinishable, that player may be forced to forfeit the match or be DQed at the TO's discretion.
• Custom music is allowed as long as it's not too distracting, but any textures or vertex hacks outside of the official team color textures are not.

2-on-2

Rules that apply to 1-on-1 apply to team tournaments as well

• Team attack is on.
• Sharing stocks is allowed.
• Controller ports are determined in a 1-2-2-1 fashion, with 1 being the team that won the Rock-Paper-Scissors.
• If the clock expires and the total number of stocks of each team is equal, use the sum of the final percentage of players on each team as the tiebreaker; whichever team has a lower sum wins. (A player who has been eliminated has 0 stocks and 0%).
• Causing both characters of a team to become frozen (i.e. by interrupting a throw with a wind attack) is to be treated the same way as freezing the opponent in singles. Leaving only one of the opponents' characters frozen is legal since the teammate can work to undo the freeze.

Stage Selection

Stages are divided up into starter, counter-pick, and banned. Starter stages are the only stages that are used in the first game of a match. After that, the loser may pick any stage, starter or counter-pick that is not banned.

Slob pick rules apply. The loser of the first match (and of successive matches) chooses the next stage, and then the winner chooses his character, and then the loser chooses his character. This series of choices is called slob picks. The loser can pick either a neutral stage or a counter-pick stage. The loser can also not choose any stage that has already been played earlier that round.

The first match is played with a Random Stage.

We run these every few weeks. They used to be one big tournament but sadly venue space became an issue. We will be sure to post the next one way ahead of time. Sorry for the short notice.
