Luigi taunt spike not connecting

Luigi's down taunt doesn't seem to hit certain characters hanging on ledges. It wouldn't hit diddy, ganon, zelda, snake, or sonic. Some characters require certain spacing, but I couldn't hit these characters at any distance I tried. Obviously this is a minor thing, but I figured it was worth mentioning.
